Spattergroit is (as written in The Healer's Helpmate by H. Pollingtonius) "a very contagious magical fungus which spreads rapidly throughout the body when even the slightest bit is consumed." Signs of this disease are:

  • Inability to talk (only when the fungus spreads onto the uvula and esophagus)
  • Bulbous purple pustules sprout over the surface of the victim's skin
  • Unusual fatigue

In medieval times, there was a rather evasive manner of curing the disease which reads (in Ye Olde Book o' Cures): "Taking the liver of a toad, binding it tight about the victim's throat and standing naked by the full moon in a barrel of eels' eyes."
However, a colleague of mine (who wanted to remain unnamed) created a simple salve which is a fool proof cure of the disease. Which, oddly enough, includes the liver of a toad and eels' eyes.

Cure for Spattergroit:

  1. One half-cup of Bubotuber pus collected in a crystal container (the properties of the crystal strengthen the potency of the potion).
  2. Mince two toad livers into an extremely minuscule pieces, promptly drop them into the container with the Bubotuber pus.
  3. With the use of an Amethyst, collect the essence of two full cups of eel eyes. Allow the substance collected to cool for five minutes.
  4. Pour the cooled Essence of Eel Eyes into the mixture of Bubotuber pus and toad liver.
  5. Heat the complete mixture until it becomes a thick, creamy substance. The final product should be a deep purple, resembling the pustules that grow on the victim's face.
