Aisha's mantra is to help solve other people's as to make sure she can ignore her own. As a therapist, she's made this her entire life. Determined, driven, curious-Aisha has a one track mind and it can be incredibly difficult to make her stray from her original path. Aisha is more likely to ask about other people’s lives than answer any questions about her own life. To this, some people could describe her as mysterious. Aisha, on top of her love of figuring out other people, also loves magic. Maybe because she was so fascinated with fantasy growing up that it translated into her immersion into the magical world that everything magical fascinated her. Intelligent, Aisha is both book smart and street smart and does her best to keep her mind ticking. She doesn’t like to be feeling dormant. Aisha knows she could have been one of the best witches to have walked this Earth-people have told her much, but this has only been something to contribute to her pride. Aisha doesn’t want to be the best-she feels like it’d be a lonely life.
- She doesn’t bode well with people she feels like are holding her back.
- In fact, she prides herself on being able to read people now-if she doesn’t like you, it’ll be based on first impressions.
- Some people can find she’s a little bit condescending
- Shes not an animal person.
- Whilst never outwardly rude, and never states her opinion on people, she’ll be the type to make someone feel uncomfortable by the end of a conversation
- She doesn’t like petty gossip or small talk, no she’d prefer to discuss something deeper
- She often comes across as a musty old professor type of person whose idea of fun is analysing a 300 page old book. She’d do it, too.
- She hates the idea of people being alone in their suffering
Aisha Okorie began her life not in Morocco, or even in Africa, but in the United States of America. Her muggle father was a first generation American whose parents immigrated from Nigeria, believing that they could find a happier life in the States. So they settled in Philadelphia, New Jersey. Aisha's grandparents worked as a high school janitor and a kitchen hand as they supported their only son through school and up to college. Luckily, their son, Chikanma, was able to get into college on a football scholarship. He was going to become professional, multiple teams trying to scout him, until he suffered a horrific on field injury that put him out of the game permanently with a life long limp. It made him fall back onto his degree in music. However, he never hit it off with his music either so he eventually became a sports commentator who relied more on the drink to get him through life than anything else.
He eventually married Nadia, his childhood sweetheart who saw through his hard exterior to marry him anyway. Of course, he was her only boyfriend who had a steady income. She said goodbye to her three other boyfriends. Three years later, they welcomed Aisha. However, his contract laid Chikanma off, telling him he no longer fit their image. Now, they were broke. On top of having to pay for his daughter, he was also having to support his parents. But without a viable career, this dynamic clearly wasn't going to last long. Watching her husband fall more and more into a pit of despair and disappear into the bottle, she began to call the shots. Which became this-they move. The U.S. weren't giving them any opportunities and nothing held them there. So the three generations uprooted themselves. Of course, his parents were hard to convince. They worked so long to make a life in the U.S. that moving away seemed such a waste. But eventually, they found themselves in Morocco to start their new life. It was cheaper than the U.S., both Europe and Africa were easy access, and the beach was on their doorstep.
However, moving wasn't going to solve all their problems. Nadia became the main source of income in the household as she gained a position as an English teacher at a local school. It wasn't long until she began to have affairs, having fallen out of love with her drinking husband. Aisha was raised multi-lingual, knowing Arabic, English, Berber and even a little bit of French. Casablanca provided a rich environment for Aisha and she spent most of her time in cafes with her father, still wallowing in his misery. However, everything changed one month after both her grandparent's died. It was peaceful and in their sleep. But as soon as everything was settled, Chikanma came home with Aisha, having walked her home from school, to find Nadia gone. Neither were surprised. Aisha had long stayed up listening to their arguments echo through the house. The break down of the marriage was inevitable, but it didn't help Aisha.
Two months later, Chikanma was working as a high school football coach, but he was only doing it for the paycheck. A year later, Chikanma checked himself into rehab. Aisha, by the age of eight, was essentially raising herself. She got herself to school, she came home and did her homework, then used whatever money Chianma had after the bills and the booze to go buy groceries. Her only goal was to make sure her father was supported. She watched her mother do it-she knew how to do it to. Teachers were dimly aware of Aisha's homelife but only one looked out for her. It was this teacher that took Aisha in when he left for rehab, offering to let her stay in her house. It was here that she had her first magical incident. Like the character in the movie she was watching, Matilda, she made all the books around her float into the air. She was alone in the house so no one saw this but she told her teacher. The teacher didn't shoot her down but she wasn't truly taken seriously. A few months later, her father returned home. He wasn't fixed, and had a few relapses over the years but he was more present in Aisha's life. He pulled his weight.
When she was twelve years old, she was sent to Anansi and sorted into Kofi. Now, one might have assumed Aisha would have ended up in Gyebi but, for the simple reason that she wanted to win the game, she ended up in Kofi. Aisha was your textbook nerd. She loved learning and got one of the best grades in her year level. But she also went out of her way to help everyone and be kind to them, so she was also relatively popular, surrounded by people, never feeling as alone as she did growing up. She finally experienced friends. Academically, she could be considered on fire. Despite being so new to magic, she threw herself into it, practicing over the years until she was slated as one of the best witches in the year level, maybe even the school. Competitive to a fault, Aisha had a drive that set her apart from those in her year level. She made her own staff with ease and even made a few for fun. She was one of the only students who passed both her OWLs and NEWTS for Occlumency her first go and insisted that she become one herself. Having that under her belt seemed important. She took a variety of classes, including healing, SSC, animation and apparation on the side.
Many professors believed Aisha would have a successful career in a ministry or as an auror somewhere. Or even return as a professor. So when she confessed to a professor that she wished to study psychology and become a therapist, some perceived this to be a waste of potential but she stayed firm. After graduation, Aisha spent a year or so in Morocco, working in the muggle and magical world to help with her father's bills. At the same time, she applied to Université Cadi Ayyad and studied muggle psychology, wanting to be well versed in both the muggle world, where she was born, and the magical world. Plus, studying meant she was as close to her father without having to travel far. She graduated when she was twenty two with almost automatic acceptance into masters. However, by this time, her father had gotten onto his feet. He had a steady job at a local newspaper for sports and encouraged Aisha to get out. Explore, travel the world. And his convincing finally worked. At twenty three, she had travelled through Asia and Europe and settled in England, working to become a therapist. She still hadn't given up on your magical studies. She continued to study occlumency and deepen her ability to use it, she made staffs in her own free time and sent them back to Anansi.
She first started working casually as a reception at a therapist in Lincliff before she started to apply herself and gain her own clients. Now, at twenty eight she was a well established therapist who worked in a private clinic and with St. Mungos. All the meanwhile, she spent her time developing her own magic and helping with creating spells. When she was twenty five, she finally bought a wand. Before, she had used either her staff or wandless magic but she decided to get a wand, just because it was the status quo but it often lies unused. Aisha's personal life was going fine. She eventually realised that even though she was a therapist herself, that didn't mean she was infallible and she found herself struggling in England, struggling with the gloomy weather, the political climate. When she was twenty three, she dated a man. But what could she say? He was smart, kind, warm and he took the time out of his day to listen to her. When she was twenty five, she found herself to be pregnant.
It wasn't a long one.
Lasted about five months.
A miscarriage.
The event broke the pair up, with the partner blaming Aisha for the issues that they had. The relationship wasn't going to last-Aisha could see it by that point. She refused to stop working for her own career and become a house wife. So when the miscarriage happened, Aisha kicked him out. She didn't need a man, but definitely not him. Aisha threw herself back into her work. Taking on as many clients as she could, whilst working on magic on the side. She was interested in creating spells, helpful spells. That was her life. Obliterating her personal life to develop her own legacy and career.
