Rat, can no longer perform it
Losing the respect of her family
first, at seven years old
One thing Ankita loves more than anything else is control. She calls the shots, and she doesn't like wildcards at all. Even in the rare cases where she can't be holding the reins, she still needs to know what is going on, and she needs to trust the person who is holding them.
With that said, she doesn't have any issues delegating responsibilities when she needs to, as long as she knows the person she's giving them to can handle them. She has a reputation for having a two-strike policy: if you mess up once, you can make up for it, but if you mess up twice, you're a liability, and she'll put you somewhere you can't screw things up - even if that's on the street...or in the ground.
She plans things meticulously before she does them, making sure to account for things that may go wrong. Anytime she needs to make it look like she was actually somewhere else, she goes to great lengths to craft an ironclad alibi - she eliminates obstacles to help make her parents happy and their company thrive, and she knows the optics would be awful if she were to ever be arrested.
To Ankita, the end justifies the means, and if a poor small-picture event will make the big picture better, she'll ensure the small-picture event goes off without a hitch. The individual is not important to her beyond how they relate on a larger scale.
She isn't afraid to get her hands dirty in any sense of the word. If she needs to personally help with building a facility in order for it to be done properly, she'll do it. If she needs to kill someone to get them out of her way, she'll do it. She has experience at all levels of the family company and has no issue telling someone to move aside while she shows them how it's done.
She doesn't take kindly to being talked down to, but she never feels the need to make a big deal about it when it happens because she knows she's right and it's only ever a matter of time before everyone else realizes it. Does she think she's better than others? Mmm...yeah, just a bit.
She has a very carefully tailored public appearance, but she isn't afraid to let loose a little around family and friends.
She has a bit of a god complex.
Ankita Shafiq was born to Jayesh and Anika Shafiq on the evening of March first, twenty twelve, and is the oldest of four siblings. She doesn't remember ever being an only child, and even the short time she was she wasn't ever alone. Her father was often busy with the family company and her mother stayed at home; the few times her mother was busy, she had maids and butlers watching her. Her family is very wealthy and she grew up in the lap of luxury, traveling frequently and wanting for nothing.
Her first sign of magic showed up just after her seventh birthday. Her parents had taken her and her siblings with them on a business trip, and Ankita had decided to explore the mansion of the businessman they were staying with, when she stumbled upon a small, cute mouse, which she decided to take back to her room. The little thing, though tiny, was quite a loud squeaker, and the noise drew her father in to ask her what was going on. She hid the small mouse behind her back, assuring him it was nothing, but he wasn't fooled. He asked to see her hands, so she brought them in front of her, only to see...nothing. There appeared to be nothing in her hands, but she could still feel the small mouse there. At the time, she was so shocked she couldn't help but tell her father she had a mouse, but they couldn't see it. Since she'd presented her magic so early, she was able to enroll in Mahoutokoro's day program starting that fall.
Ankita grew up knowing, even from a young age, that she was being groomed to take over the family business someday. She started learning multiple languages at five years old, and when she started Mahoutokoro at seven, she picked up violin as well. In her teens, she began fencing - with the compromise that she also learn to dance. She didn't mind being so busy; she liked having a full schedule and would often get antsy if left bored for too long.
At Mahoutokoro, she excelled, right from the start. She had gold robes for almost her entire time there - once she earned them, she never lost them. She especially enjoyed potions, herbology, and magizoology, and participated in the Castelobruxo exchange program. In her final year at school, she won the Wizarding Schools Potions Championship - she's very glad she wasn't one of the people who missed out on getting to participate by only a year or two.
When she turned fifteen, she began interning at the family company over the summers, learning all parts of the business, not just the executive part she would eventually be taking over. After she graduated school, her father began letting her see more of what she would be doing when she takes his place. She doesn't particularly care to take over the company - that is, she's fairly ambivalent, and if one of her siblings wanted it she'd let them have it, but she knows it's what her parents want for her so she doesn't mind playing along to keep them happy.
At twenty, while on a business trip with her father in Spain, she found out one of her father's trusted bodyguards - a woman named Marjani - was actually out to kill him, but thanks to her agility from years of fencing and dancing, she was able to stop the bodyguard before she could finish her mission. Marjani had worked for the family for many years, and after using a few drops of well-brewed Veritaserum to learn about what Marjani had been up to the whole time, Ankita struck a deal with her: if Marjani taught her how to be a successful hitwoman, Ankita wouldn't turn her in. Using the Unbreakable Vow, Ankita also made Marjani promise not to kill anyone in her family.
Ankita, always a fast learner, became quite successful very quickly under Marjani's tutelage, and within two years she began stacking the deck, so to say, in the family company's favor. What she often does is reach out to someone looking to pay to kill the same person she wants to get rid of, so that she not only gets rid of those who would get in the way of the company's success, but she also gets a nice payout as well. Of course, to keep the scales balanced, she has had to eliminate a few people within the company as well, but she knows they certainly won't be missed.
She moved to England a year ahead of the company's relocation to help smooth the transition, and while she doesn't mind England, she does still miss home.
