Ashley walked quickly into the room, her entire face lit up with a huge smile. "Hey, Lily, guess what?" she said, looking ready to burst out of her skin.
"Tanis Nyt, Head of the Auror Office, asked me to her office and said that she wanted to promote me! I accepted the post as an Intelligence Division Auror." She couldn't stop smiling.
Ashley sat down. "Thanks. 'Course, she gave me tons of work to do tonight to get myself set up, but I guess that's the way it goes. You still want to be an Auror with me, right?"
"Intelligence Division doesn't actually fight most of the time. Their main job is to try to gain information. Which is why I've got to make an alias or two tonight to go by." Ashley smiled. "And don't kid yourself, you're just as talented and qualified as I am; just in different ways."
Ashley blinked. "Well, Lil, I thought you were in on it. I would be twice as happy if you could work with me, but you've gotta do what's best for you. Sure, I'd be a bit disappointed, but I'd understand if you didn't really want to do this. It's a huge step."
Ashley giggled with her. "You can choose. I actually have no preference." She had decided not to tell Lily about Karith's vague invitation to a date yet. She knew Draco was still a touchy subject with her, and she thought it best not to tell her about her own possible good fortune until it became official.
