Ashley walked into the room. She looked exhausted and didn't even seem to notice Lily as she sat down on the bed, staring into space. Then she looked up and saw Llly. She shook her head to clear it, hoping she wasn't imagining it. "Lily? Where have you been?" She was torn between anger and relief.
"I didn't think you were dead," Ashley said quickly. "But I thought that something was wrong." She hugged her. "I would say something like 'Don't ever do that to me again,' but I know it was out of your control. So, are you officially an Auror?"
Ashley narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. She knew that Lily had done all this at least partly because she had pushed her into it. "I know that was a funny question to ask, but... you just don't seem all that happy to me."
Ashley scowled. "Ugh, that is sooo ridiculous. Why and how would he have found someone that quick to get married to? Betcha that marriage won't last too long. Lil, you deserve more than what you had with him. The right guy's gonna come along, and when he does, he's gonna treat you with respect and you're gonna fall in love and have a romantic wedding and make a new life with just the two of you. Trouble is, that's not gonna happen today. So you've got to find a way to be happy with what you've got, and if what you've got still isn't enough, find a way to fill the void without a guy, because in general guys break hearts way faster than they mend them and you've got to figure out how to get through the short haul. Plus, you've got me, you've got a good job, and you're doing something awesome with your life right now. So enjoy single life while you can-" She stopped. "Sorry, that was probably a bigger rant than you needed."
