She'd knock on the door at least wanting to try to give him some privacy.

He was resting in one of the lower bunks and when he heard the knock got up and with the assistance of a cane, walked over to the door to open it. "What's up?" He asked with a small smile.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 14:37, February 19, 2019 (UTC)
Him being able to get up on his own and move around, even with the cane, still made her smile. She'd move into the room and sit on one of the unused beds. "I think the PT we're doing is going pretty well and was thinking about seeing if we could start working on your mind too." She'd pause. She knew the PT had been rough and would continue to be so. "Assuming you're feeling up to it. I know the PT takes a lot of energy."

He sat down carefully on the edge of the bed next to the one Melinda had taken. "Sure." He paused. "What would we be doing, exactly?"

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 16:19, February 19, 2019 (UTC)
"Well the first step is to see if we can figure out what was changed so...basically we'd be going in and looking around for clues." She'd pause. "Have you ever done any mind stuff? I mean I know some families insist on Occlumency training so I didn't know if you already knew what your mindscape looked like."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 16:05, February 20, 2019 (UTC)

"I'm sure I had training," he agreed. "But I'm equally sure they likely tore down what the mindscape was and built their own version." He frowned, but was also pondering that thought. "But I haven't seen the new place yet," he said cracking a bit of a joking smile. "So maybe it will feel unfamiliar. It's hard to say."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 16:29, February 20, 2019 (UTC)
She'd nod. "Do you remember any of your occlumency training? You actually having an idea what to do and how to do things would help but if not we can start with the basics..."

"I think I do," he said.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist

She'd nod and give a slight smile. "OK...are you ready?"

He nodded, closing his eyes and clearing his mind.

Melinda and Eric found themselves in the Selwyn Manor, in the main foyer. Eric would appear much grander-- taller, and in perfect physical condition. He was dressed in the finest robes. Melinda appeared a little more homely in comparison. Not much about herself had changed, but in his mind she appeared as a nurse or caretaker, with a little Healer's outfit to match.

To a trained Legilimens, it would be clear that this wasn't Eric's true mindscape. There were whispers of the original. A broomstick leaning against the staircase. If they listened quietly enough they'd almost hear faint sounds of cheering that certainly didn't belong in a quiet, stately manor.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 13:28, February 21, 2019 (UTC)
She'd look around then down at herself and a little smirk would appear on her face. "I didn't know that's what you were into." She'd chuckle then look around more closely with the grin lingering on her face. "Well...what do you see?"

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 18:14, February 21, 2019 (UTC)

"It's my... home." He frowned. The words had been said, but didn't feel correct coming out of his mouth. Like some phantom had taken over and spoken for him. "My... parents. Home."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 22:21, February 21, 2019 (UTC)
She'd look over at him sharply and narrow her eyes. "It is...but there definitely seem to be some things that don't fit wouldn't you agree?"

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 19:29, February 23, 2019 (UTC)

He nodded. "Well, the broomsticks wouldn't be kept there," he said, nodding in their direction. "They'd be in some... closet."

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 19:29, February 23, 2019 (UTC)
As Eric spoke, the broomstick hovered in the air slightly. For a moment it seemed as though it would disappear, but eventually it settled back down where it was, and another broomstick joined it.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 02:54, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
She'd pause. "Seems like the broomsticks want to be there."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 02:59, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

He nodded, confused. "That... doesn't make any sense, though." He paused, and walked up to the broomsticks. He hesitated for a brief moment, glancing back at Melinda, and then reached out to grip one of them.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 02:59, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
The effect was a powerful one. The broomsticks still held a link to Eric's old mindscape, and from the moment they were touched, the mindscape shifted instantaneously. The lights and sounds of a Quidditch stadium in full swing for a big game rained down upon Eric and Melinda in a way that it was physically painful for Eric.

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 02:59, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

He closed his eyes, and let go of the broomstick as though he had been burned by it. As soon as he let go, his parents house returned.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:01, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
Her eyes would open at the sudden sounds and lights. "Wow...seems like the brooms are trying to give us some hints about what should be here..."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:05, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

He looked over at her. "You think so? That... seemed more like an attack than anything."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:09, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
She'd purse her lips. "It could have been...but it also could have been your original...memories of a sort trying to reassert themselves." She'd wave an arm. "I mean...look around. This place seems a lot more like your parents than you wouldn't you agree?"

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:11, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

"Perhaps," he said frowning slightly. "But... How would I know for sure?" He looked at Melinda. "Did I play Quidditch professionally?"

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:14, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
She'd shake her head. "No...but your job was working with broomsticks and I know at one point you had tried to work with professional quidditch teams as a coach or something else." She'd pause. "You told me at Hogwarts you didn't play but were friends with a lot of the other kids who did. Quidditch was...an important part of your identity."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:20, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

He frowned. "Then why would it feel like... such an attack?" He looked at the broomsticks. "Do you think I should try again? It didn't hurt you when the mindscape shifted, did it?"

y th

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:23, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
She'd shake her head. "No...surprised me but didn't hurt me." She'd pause. That seemed significant but she didn't know why. "...and it's up to you. If it hurts and you don't want to try it again that's perfectly ok. We're here to look around and see what we can find out. I'm sure we could find other things to check out or find the entrances to the other chambers instead if you didn't want to pull on this particular thread."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:26, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

He nodded slowly. "Maybe... if there continues to be this... same sort of thread-- the broomsticks-- then I can come back to it." He looked around. "It would seem like the memory chamber would be a good one to find..."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:28, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
She'd nod. "I agree but I would imagine it would also be the most difficult to find too." She'd pause. "Unless you have some idea where it might be?"

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:30, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

He looked up the staircase... down the hallway, clearly trying to decide. "If this isn't my true mindscape... my parents would likely try to hide my memories from me. And likely protect them. That makes me think either the attic... or the dungeons."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:32, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
She'd nod. "Makes sense to me...and even if we don't find your memory chamber we might find another chamber or some clues. So which one do you want to start at?"

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:36, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

He considered for a moment. "The dungeon."

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 03:36, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
Eric and Melinda made their way to the location of the entrance of the dungeon, but right in front of the doorway was an intimidating man. He was much taller than Eric, and had large, imposing muscles. His arms were crossed over his chest, holding his wand.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:38, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
"Looks like some sort of guard or guardian...but this is your mind so you at least should be able to get through without a problem." She'd pause. "Though of course there may be some action or password you're supposed to use. You know it somewhere in your mind though we may have to find it..."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:41, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

He frowned. "This is my home, Samuels," he said in an authoritative voice. "You'll let me pass."

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 03:41, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
The man acted as though he didn't even see or hear Eric or Melinda.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:43, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
She'd nod. "Carefully try to move past and see what happens."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:45, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

He slowly reached his arm for the door handle.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 03:45, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
The man's reaction was instantaneous. He grabbed Eric's arm with one hand, and with his wand hand flicked his wand wordlessly at Eric and Melinda, who found themselves once again in the foyer.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:47, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
She'd flinch and look around surprised. "Well at least that didn't hurt." She'd sigh. "Well we'll have two options there...figure out the normal trigger to let us get past him which is buried somewhere...or dismantle him. I talked to my sister about how to do that and have a good idea on how to approach it if that's what you decide to do."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:49, February 24, 2019 (UTC)~

"Which do you think is likely to be more successful?"

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 03:52, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
"The easiest way would probably be to try to figure out how to get past him since we're not putting time and effort into dismantling something you put energy into creating. This is your mind so what you say goes...but it might take a while to get that guardian to accept that. Dismantling the guardian would probably be faster overall but would require a lot of energy we could be expending elsewhere doing other things." She'd shrug. "It's a choice and neither answer is really the obvious one."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 03:55, February 24, 2019 (UTC)~

"I... doubt I put him there. If this isn't really my mindscape, I'd imagine that's the work of my parents."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 04:00, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
She'd nod. "Maybe not...but since he is here and is stable it means your mind has accepted him as belonging here which both puts you in control of him on some level but also means he won't easily be moved or changed either."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 15:34, February 24, 2019 (UTC)~

He frowned, contemplating that. "We'll dismantle him, I guess." He looked over at the broomsticks again. "I wonder if... those would help at all." He looked back at Melinda. "And I wonder what would happen if you touched it."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 13:19, February 25, 2019 (UTC)
She'd consider. "I don't think anything would happen but we can try..." She'd move over and reach out touching the broomsticks.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 21:22, February 25, 2019 (UTC)
Nothing happened.

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 21:22, February 25, 2019 (UTC)~

He sighed. "It was worth a try. I guess we go and dismantle the guy, then."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 22:08, February 25, 2019 (UTC)
She'd nod. "Ok...let's get back over there. First thing we'll need to do is find out which emotions are attach to him and how they're attached."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 22:10, February 25, 2019 (UTC)

As he walked over to that area, he began thinking aloud. "Some sort of... sense of duty, I'd imagine. Protectiveness." He paused. "He didn't say much, which doesn't give us many other clues."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 14:20, February 26, 2019 (UTC)
She'd nod. "Usually guardians need to be tied to some strong emotion like anger or jealousy or something to do their jobs well."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 14:35, February 26, 2019 (UTC)

"His response felt too... swift, for anger." He frowned as they approached the man again, who once again did not acknowledge their existence. "Maybe pride?"

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 16:17, February 26, 2019 (UTC)
She'd nod. "That would be a strong emotion and would make sense with your family."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 20:35, February 26, 2019 (UTC)

He looked at the man uncertainly. "So... do I play to the pride, or against it.... do I compliment him or embarrass him?"

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 22:09, February 26, 2019 (UTC)
She'd shake her head. "I...don't think it works that way? I mean he's running on one of your emotions so you need to cut him off from it right?" She'd pause. "In my mind there would be some sort of...animal or connection providing the emotion that I would need to separate from the guardian. How do you think your mind would connect him to his energy or power source?"

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 23:08, February 26, 2019 (UTC)
As Melinda spoke, and Eric began to think about it, the doorway almost seemed to gain curtains on either side of it, and marinette strings seemed to come appear, starting at the man's wrists and stretching up above the curtains where one Quidditch player, with a jersey labeled disdain and an extended Selwyn cousin with a broach labeled pride each had a hand on the marinette, controlling the man who appeared to be more of a puppet.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 13:18, February 27, 2019 (UTC)
She'd watch amused. "Well...there we go and it keeps with the quidditch theme too." She'd frown slightly. "I wonder..." She'd shake her head. "We can puzzle it out later." She'd smile. "So...your mind get to work."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 14:15, February 27, 2019 (UTC)

He focused on the puppet masters and the strings, picturing what he wanted to happen.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 14:15, February 27, 2019 (UTC)
The strings slowly frayed and then snapped. The two puppeteers frowned and went to speak, but found they had no voice. The handles for the puppet vanished and the guardian fell, limp, to the ground.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 14:59, February 27, 2019 (UTC)
She'd grin. "Good job." She'd look over at him. "How are you feeling? We've been in here a while and I know that probably took some juice. Ready to leave for today or do you want to go see what we found?"

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 16:07, February 27, 2019 (UTC)

He'd felt like collapsing along with the puppet. "I think we should go..." he sighed and looked down at the guardian. "Do you think it would be prudent to deal with him, though? So he has less of a chance of returning between now and when we come back?"

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 16:17, February 27, 2019 (UTC)
She'd look down at the...human looking body slumped on the floor. "I don't know what we'd do with him. I mean what powers him is disconnected and without you intentionally fixing it your mind shouldn't be able to re-animate him." She'd pause. "I think your mind will see it as useless and get rid of it though it might take a while." She'd shrug. "We can do something with it if you'd like though."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 18:12, February 27, 2019 (UTC)

He grimaced and shook his head. "I can deal with the remains next time if need be."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 18:16, February 27, 2019 (UTC)
She'd nod. "Let's get out of here."

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 18:16, February 27, 2019 (UTC)
When they opened their eyes with Melinda slumped in a chain and Eric laying down in the bed the first thing Melinda would do would be to move over to her bag and pull out a potion that was an electric blue color and offer it to Eric. "Here...I'm sure you'll have a massive headache from the backlash of severing those connections. This should help."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 23:13, February 27, 2019 (UTC)

He took the potion and swallowed it, grimacing slightly at the taste, but didn't complain.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 13:32, February 28, 2019 (UTC)
She'd give him a grin. "Well, seems like a first good step." She'd pause. "I know you're probably getting tired of my cooking...maybe tonight we should go out and celebrate?" She'd pause then quickly add. "If you're feeling up to it of course."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 13:58, February 28, 2019 (UTC)

He looked intrigued. "Where would we go?" He asked. He knew Melinda had said that at one time they had loved each other... he wondered how much of her offer had been asking for dinner as the possibility of once again becoming more than friends.

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist
Send Me an Owl! - 14:54, February 28, 2019 (UTC)
She'd shrug. "Anywhere...just out somewhere." She'd pause. "Do you remember any particular restaurants you used to like?"

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus
-Jack of all trades... Master of none

 – 15:49, February 28, 2019 (UTC)

He thought about that and slowly nodded. "The Leaky Cauldron? Is that something?"

Melinda Bagman - Magizoologist

She'd nod and smile a little at him remembering. "It is. It's a pub but sort of guards the entrance between the muggle world and magical London."

Eric Selwyn Ravenclaw Alumnus

"Then maybe we go there."
