After a long shift the pizza place, Mal was back home and really hungry. She was searching through the refrigerator looking for a snack.

She shook her head. "You just... take a seat. I can get it myself."

She nodded and sat down across from her sister. "I'll... get something after I sit down for a minute."

She shrugged. "Just getting used to the new schedule. It's... a lot more taxing than I expected, being on my feet all day."

"What are you sorry about?" she asked frowning. "I'm doing this to help you, because I love you, and love my nephew-to-be."

She paused. "I'm... considering dropping out when I turn seventeen so that I can go back to work again."

She shrugged slightly. "I worked really hard and... got mediocre grades at best. So... I'm probably not going to end up doing much."

"My friend Melinda doesn't even study and she got like... practically straight Os," she said. "I had to work to get my grades and I... barely made passing grades. I should probably just... accept that I'm not... really that good, right?"

She frowned. "Actually... it kind of does, doesn't it? At any interview they'd pick Melinda over me, because her scores were better."

"No.... but the same principal still stands." She sighed. "I... don't even know what I'd want to do with NEWTs anyway..."

She frowned. "I... I don't know..." She hadn't considered it like that. She only wanted to help her sister, but then again, she supposed she hadn't even asked... just assumed Bri needed the help. She looked at her sister. "How... are you going to manage on your own when I'm at school? You won't be able to work because you'll have to manage an infant on your own..."

She looked at her sister. "How are you going to pay for all of the things he's going to need, Bri?" she asked gently. "A crib, and diapers, and food, and... baby clothes and... more baby clothes when he outgrows the first ones and... all that."

"Ahh, you saw it as a door. I saw it as a ball that I was served up." She mimed a baseball bat and swung it. "And all I did was knock it out of the park."

She shrugged. "Alright." She finished off her apple and tossed the core into the garbage bin... and missed. "See, this is why I never do sports." She stood up and moved, grabbing the core off the floor and dropping it into the garbage.
