She'd consider a moment. Eric was upstairs and she didn't want to give Thomas any reason to try to be a big brother but he looked so serious so she'd nod. "Of course." She'd head into the living room and offer a seat on the couch. "Want anything to drink?"
OOC:The living room and kitchen would be about the same since she wouldn't have done too much except repairs. She's changed the yard up though and the master bedroom...I should probably get new pictures for some of them. :)
She'd nod. "That was how I ran into him last time I saw him. He'd been upset about something that happened in daycare and had apparently tried to run away. I convinced him it was smarter to go back and when we got there they'd called Dad and he saw me. He started ranting and raving completely furious. I'm surprised he didn't have a heart attack and keel over." She'd give a small smile. "Anyway I took the blame of everything happening so he wouldn't focus on Nicholas. I was sort of worried with how angry he was he'd hit him. I think he came close to trying to hit me." She'd shrug.
And you still wanted to have a relationship with him was on the tip of Thomas' tongue, but he didn't say that. "Well... he was crying for a different reason when I saw him." He cringed. "Uhm, he said... that his Dad's... dead."
"Yeah," he said, wincing. "I... I don't know. Maybe they're still looking into his family and that's why we haven't heard anything?" He shrugged. "But... he said that his Dad was dead. He also said that Dad told him you were absolutely crazy-- a mad woman. I let him know you weren't."
She'd nod slowly still processing. "I'm sure Dad thought I was but I think Nicholas had a better grasp of me than that. Wow...he's gone. We'll need to find a place for Nicholas. I have some extra rooms upstairs he could stay in."
She'd frown. She wanted to take care of him. She'd been the one fighting this fight when no one else wanted to get involved. She hated to admit he might be right and her words would be grudging. "Yeah I do travel a lot. It wouldn't matter once he was in school but for now..." She'd trail off. "I don't think Mal and Mark though since they'll be having a baby soon. Ash and Charity could probably handle it better especially since he's close-ish in age to Aria."
She'd let out a little laugh. "You weren't until a few months before you disappeared. We had started working on you cooking since you were living in your own apartment but at that point it mostly consisted of me coming over and helping you prep everything so you could just throw it together and let it cook."

He nodded, the memory not having any sort of familiarity. "Well, looks like we'll have to resume those lessons."
She'd nod. "If you'd like." She'd pause after eating a few bites. "So...ready to try some more work in your mind today? I know you're probably still exhausted from all the physical work we've been doing."
Eric SelwynRavenclaw Alumnus -Jack of all trades... Master of none – 19:14, March 21, 2019 (UTC)
He shook his head. "I'll be fine to do some work. I'm stronger than I think you give me credit for."
As they entered Eric's mind, the mindscape looked the same as normal, at first glance. It was still his parents house, but the portraits along the wall were no longer Selwyn family members... they were famous Quidditch players. And the sound of loud cheering, though clearly from far away, was definitely audible.
She'd look around noting the changes. "Well it looks like some things are changing in here."

He frowned, looking around and nodding. "Yeah... The changes they made must be slowly coming down..." He shook his head. "We can ascertain and deal with that later." He started walking down towards the entrance to the dungeons again.
Eric was pleased that the guardian they'd previously dealt with hadn't come back. They walked down a corridor and Eric opened up another door and the landscape shifted.
They were in the Slytherin Common Room. At the center was a large pensieve, with shelves built around it. The shelves contained small vials, all clearly marked. Memories. Off to the left was a fireplace where a dark-haired girl dressed as a maid was sweeping the floor in front of it.
She'd glance down at her own healer's outfit and then over at the girl in the maid outfit but decide to keep the snarky comment to herself. She'd look around comparing the room to the real Slytherin common room. "Well...other than the pensieve and the vials it's pretty close to the real thing...but since you were never in Slytherin there would be no way for you to know that."

He nodded slowly. "And it doesn't make any sense for it to be the Common Room... something my parents must have done." He looked over at the maid. "Who are you?"
She'd look surprised but realizing it was a copy of herself she couldn't help but comment. "In a nurse outfit and now a maid huh? I didn't know you..." She'd pause an idea hitting her hard. "Wait...I'm here in your mind."

"But I didn't create this. So... my parents... put you here?" He looked over at Maid-Melinda. "Who are you?"
She'd shrug. "The way she's dressed she's probably just some sort of automaton with simple basic responses to help clean up junk in your mind. I just wonder why they made her look like me...seems odd if they were trying to have you forget me completely."

He shook his head. "There shouldn't be any junk in here." He slowly started to approach her. "She hasn't moved from the fireplace."
She'd frown slightly. "Maybe just to...torment you with what you couldn't or didn't have anymore? Maybe by putting me here they somehow...locked or anchored the memories of me where you couldn't think about them? Maybe...so they could laugh at me in that ridiculous outfit?" She'd shrug. "Could be almost anything."

"But I wouldn't have remembered you otherwise," he said, frowning. He moved over to the shelves. "I have to find that memory. The one of where we met." He started looking through vials, hoping one was labeled with that Ministry Ball Melinda had spoken of.
They would find themselves in the middle of a ball room elegantly decorated with figures all in masks moving around, dancing, and generally enjoying themselves. They would be like ghosts in the memory with people able to move through them and both of them looking slightly transparent.
She'd look around and find herself over by the refreshment table seemingly wandering aimlessly wearing the elegant shimmery silver dress and unicorn mask. "There's me." She'd point herself out and them scan the crowd again locating Eric in his black outfit with the red tie. "...and there's you."

He nodded. He watched the scene play out as they met, and eventually started dancing. "That... was you," he said softly.
She'd nod. "It was. We flirted a bit...you annoyed me some...we tried to get to know one another a bit but played the game of trying not to reveal too much so we could be identified by the other and...then before we took our masks off during the unmasking your brother attacked the Minister."

He frowned and looked sharply at her. "What?"
Ooc: Emmett wasn't in on that attack. He got involved later, with the attack in Hogsmeade.
She'd frown. "Maybe I'm remembering wrong but some guys cloaked and in a mask attacked the Minister. He was never caught or identified and later your brother was arrested for similar attacks on Hogsmeade and sent to prison. I thought later when we figured out we were both at the ball you'd said it might have been him but of course there was no way to prove it."

He nodded. "I wonder if there's a way to... pause the memory," he said softly, approaching himself and Melinda dancing. "This is my mind... right? If I could just... take off your mask..."
"It's your mind so I don't see why you couldn't stop the memory..." Of course she didn't know if he could affect the memory by doing something like taking off her mask and even if he did what would be under it since he hadn't actually seen her face that night so he'd have no memory of what would be there?
Eric SelwynRavenclaw Alumnus -Jack of all trades... Master of none – 14:03, March 26, 2019 (UTC)~
He snapped his fingers, and the memory stopped playing. He moved over to the woman, looking her over for a moment before trying to touch the edges of her mask.
As he touched her his hands would go through her like smoke. This was just a memory...he could stop it, rewind, or look at details he might not have noticed before but couldn't actually change or affect it.

She'd give a quick nod. "I agree it might but..." She'd glance around. "...this seems like it might be a dead end unless you can somehow jar your memory with it..." She'd frown. "Maybe...can you swap my nurse outfit for what she's wearing?" She'd nod to the memory of herself.
Eric SelwynRavenclaw Alumnus -Jack of all trades... Master of none – 14:45, March 26, 2019 (UTC)
He looked at her, then at the memory of her. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, and in the next Melinda was a perfect picture of the woman in the memory, right down to the mask.
Eric would feel a sharp pain in his mind and they would hear a rumble light thunder. Small bolts of lightning would dance around over their heads through the memory for a moment and then everything would settle back. Eric would feel close...like there was a memory right there but also just out of his grasp. It was the same feeling of knowing you've forgotten something but being unable to remember what it was. It was almost tangible but the pain in his mind would intensify driving out his thoughts and they would find themselves both sprawled on the ground back in the antechamber.

He sat up, his head pounding. He looked around to see if Melinda was okay.
She was still in the gown he'd put her in with the mask up on her head but was sprawled out and looked like she'd tossed unceremoniously on the ground...which she had. She'd recover quickly looking around and seeing ok. "Well...we certainly got a reaction at any rate."
Eric SelwynRavenclaw Alumnus -Jack of all trades... Master of none – 15:02, March 26, 2019 (UTC)
He was relieved to see that she was okay. "Yeah," he said. "But I think that's... about all we can do for now."
