Bishop House

It was early on in their children's childhood that Clarence and Kaia invested in this Hogsmeade-based, two-story home. It gave them the perfect sense of privacy and intimacy to raise their children while still exposing them to the world of magic they were born into.

It had been a few hours since Felton had told her of what had happened and she prayed, when she sent Kaia a text, that Clarence wasn't going to be home. If it were up to her, she would have done this in her own house but she couldn't think of a good enough reason to suddenly drag Kaia to her house. Maybe if she pretended she had a heart attack because of how much stress she's under?? Would that be a believable enough reason? However, the narrative of 'come over Kaia, I'm having a heart attack :( lol joke your husband cheated on you!!' probably wouldn't blow over well. So she turned up at Kaia's house. She can do this. She's Minister of Magic. She's faced down worse conversations. "Kaia!" She called out when she walked right into the house. Look-when did older sibling's respect the younger sibling's privacy? Then again, maybe after what happened with Felton should tell her to be more mindful. But Eleni highly doubted she was going to be walking in on anything considering. "Are you home?" Please say no.

Regrettably, Kaia was home. It was her rare day off, and she'd spent most of it tidying up her home so Clarence wouldn't have to come back to such a cluttered place after long hours at the office. Kaia is honestly surprised to hear footsteps in the house, and is under the impression it's one of her children until she hears the familiar American accent. Her lips lift into a happy smile at the arrival of her older sister, and she quickly lets go of the rag she's drying the dishes with to wash out her hands — force of habit, really — and properly greet her. "Kitchen!" she calls out. Having not seen Eleni's message, she was admittedly confused by the visit, but didn't question it at all like she probably should have. She learned not to question Eleni's lines of thought a long time ago.

Eleni walked into the kitchen and stared at Kaia, taking in what she was seeing. Of course Kaia was cleaning. "Can't magic do that? I never have time clean," Eleni pointed out as she slid onto one of the counters, ignoring any stool or chair that might have been in the vicinity. "Are you busy? You're not about to leave somewhere, right?" She was stalling. She was most definitely stalling. Her hair was free and was cascading over her shoulders in any direction it wanted. It looked like she had ran her hand through it one too many times. "Place is looking good. Really good." Eleni was still thinking about how to go about this. But really-no matter what, this wasn't going to be pretty.

Kaia jerks her head over to the other side of the sink, where the water is running and the dishes seem to be under the careful strokes of a charmed brush. "But drying them up is calming. It helps me thick. Clarence and I got the kids a few late Christmas gifts but I misplaced them so I've been trying to figure out where I put them. It turns out it's easy to lose things when you have a horrible memory outside work. Who would have thought?" Kaia chuckles, shaking her head slightly as she accepts her admittedly dumb fuck-up. "No, I'm not. Clarence won't be home for a few more hours, but I think the kids are due back soon. They were going to surprise him up at WizCo today." Kaia takes note of her sister's slightly disheveled appearance, but wisely opts out of inquiring about it. If anything was wrong, Eleni would surely tell her. (She thinks something might be up, but again... Eleni has always figured out how to talk to her in her own time, when she's ready. Kaia has definitely learned not to push her.) "Thank you." What could it be, that had her complimenting her home? "We... haven't done anything different, Eleni."

"No, you definitely have done something. I think it's the curtains," Eleni said as she turned to look around her. Yeah, nothing had changed from the last time she'd been here. But that didn't matter. Eleni paled at the reminder of wizco and she took a deep breath. "Yeah, I did hear about. You...so you haven't heard from anyone else today?" She asked as her teeth bit down onto her bottom lip, her eyes sliding back onto Kaia, now definitely reading her reactions. "But yeah I'm sure the presents will turn up." Christmas is about to be cancelled so it probably didn't matter if they were found or not.

Kaia's lips thin as she presses them together, eyes squinting slightly as she eyes Eleni with slight wariness. Whatever it is, it's gotta be bad, and suddenly, Kaia really wishes she hadn't been home. Or that Eleni would simply disappear. But neither can or will happen, so instead, she shakes her head. "No? Should I have?" she queries, raising an eyebrow. "Okay, I'll bite. What's wrong?"

In Eleni's credit, she was handling this rather calmly. Eleni had been waiting and waiting for the hormones to start kicking in and causing her to bounce off the walls. Because, you know, she's pregnant and all. But not even this revelation seemed to have triggered Eleni enough to start bouncing off the walls. But then again-she's never been the angry type. At the question, Eleni simply smiled. Not a happy smile just a-here we go! type of smile. The baby in her stomach suddenly felt heavier than any weight Eleni's ever lifted in her life. "No! Absolutely not! Best that no one has, and-you know what, how about I finish the dishes?" The Minister of Magic said with a smile before slipping off the bench and moving to the sink, practically snatching the clothe from her sister's hands. Look-she wanted to do something with her hands. It was either that or find the closest punnet of ice cream and gorge on that. Eleni has said worse things in her time. Told people worse revelations but-there was a part of her still terrified of hurting Kaia. Of seeing Kaia hurt. That this...this was different than other things. She wasn't sure why the words kept dying in her throat. "It's just...you know I love you, right? That you have done nothing wrong." Eleni knew Kaia was about to try push Eleni off a cliff and that trying to beat around the bush was going to work for so long. "It's just...I saw Felton today. I talked to Felton. And he was upset."

Oblivious about her sister's pregnancy, Kaia doesn't stop to consider her sister might be feeling any kind of guilt or discomfort by the situation she's in. What clues her into how serious whatever her secret really is, all traces of amusement towards her sister disappear. Her posture becomes more rigid, like she's gearing to receive bad news, and she leans into the counter for some extra support. She doesn't think she needs it, but if she stays upright, she'll start shaking her leg; it's an obnoxious tic that hasn't waned from her childhood. She's tried. It's just habitual. When Eleni practically rips the rag out of her hands, her eyes narrow suspiciously. "Eleni Selene, I know you know something." Kaia's heart sinks when Eleni continues to talk, and it takes absolutely every single cell in her body to not smash a plate over her older sister's head, as her mind immediately leaps to — "Is he okay? He was supposed to be going to WizCo today. Was there an accident or something?" Surely her son was okay? Her coworkers would notify her immmediately if any relative of hers was admitted for anything life-threatening, sure, but considering what happened last year, she still worries. Especially about Felton. "I swear to God Eleni, if you don't get to the point, I'll — " Empty threat, obviously. She'd never mean it. She normally wouldn't even say it. (She didn't. But the thought was there.) Except when it's her children we're talking about, the dynamics tend to change. "Seriously, please."

Eleni meant this in the best way possible but she suspected that even if Eleni was nine months pregnant, she'd still be able to fight Kaia off. So that threat really was an empty one and Eleni didn't even blink. "No, no! He's fine!" She said automatically but then remembered her office might need intensive cleaning and an overdose of air freshener and her nose crinkled slightly. "Physically fine. He's with Florian right now and Florian's threat level is still at a very low rate, so Felton is fine. Then she took a deep, audible breathe, gripping the towel once tightly before throwing it down onto the counter and pushed her hair out of her face. There was no way to do this that wasn't going to result in hurting Kaia. Unless Kaia was also having an affair and they had an open marriage of sorts. Best situation this was an open marriage. Imagine. "He did go to Wizco..." she said before turning back to face Kaia. "To surprise Clarence. But it ended up being Felton being surprised...Kaia, baby, he found Clarence with another woman...he, um, Felton found out Clarence is having an affair," she said, her heart rate going way too fast. Her blood pressure was going to sky rocket. Could that cause a miscarriage? Stress can cause a miscarriage, can't it? You'd think a pregnant woman would know this answer but apparently any knowledge she might have has left her head.

Eleni could be a newborn herself and she could still take on Kaia. She's a healer through and through. She wasn't made to hurt other people. Healing has always been her thing. She acknowledges she's come short on a lot of her titles. Kaia has always tried to be a good mother, but there's alway been that little nagging voice at the back of her head taunting her as a mother. That Felton, Agatha and Diana would all be better off without her. There was the postpartum depression on all three instances — each case worse than the last — and of regrettably, her miscarriage and problems with fertility afterwards. She isn't a good mother. She isn't a good wife, either. Every man has needs, and Clarence wasn't any different, but she was always so dedicated to her career that maybe she wasn't as... Merlin, as appealing? Interesting? Interested? Kaia has never really been like other women in the sense that she didn't focus on herself or her family as everyone always told her she should be. She wasn't as attractive. Caring. Dedicated to her family's needs. Nurturing. She's always kind of known, but to receive the affirmation of her worthlessness — of how 'let go' she let herself become, and in turn what it affected — impacted her more than she ever thought it could. From the moment Eleni confirms Clarence is having an affair, everything else is drowned out. All she hears is an incessant ringing in her ears, like she's underwater. She feels like she's detaching from reality, floating around, and - Merlin, she's never even been interested in poetry, yet here she is, a walking, living, tragic poem of heartbreak. Heartbreak is pretty much the only way to describe how she's feeling. She thought Clarence was her soulmate. Her everything. That no matter what, she - they - could bounce back. But that was naïve thinking. Kaia wasn't good enough. She was never good enough. Kaia doesn't even know what to say. And to find out from Eleni? Loss on top of humiliation. This feels a lot like a cruel joke from the universe. A taunt. You aren't good enough. Makes sense. Eleni, she had a rough few years, but look at her now. Florian. Their sister. And then there's her. "I'm - I need..." Kaia trails off. Her voice sounds oddly clear, rather than rough like it usually is before anyone cries. But her face - it's disheartening. She's never looked as defeated, as beaten down and broken as she does in that moment. How is she supposed to move on? How is she supposed to feel whole... when all she's ever been is tiny little fragments of the woman she was never meant to be? Kaia stands still, staring hopelessly at her older sister. I'm not good enough.

Eleni could come to a wide array of conclusions of where Kaia's mind was going. She knew Kaia. Better than she might even know herself. So she didn't need to think too hard on what Kaia might be thinking right now. All of them tended to take everything personal, doubt their own capabilities. Merlin knows how many times Eleni's thought negative of herself. Tentatively, Eleni grabbed a glass to pour a generous glass of water before moving forward to offer to her sister. If she was going to descend in tears, she at least could do it while hydrated. "Kaia...it's okay, you can cry if you want. It's a lot to take in," she said softly, taking the role of older sister easily. She didn't think any less of Kaia. The thought didn't even occur to her. "This wasn't your fault. It's not your fault he's a lousy husband," she continued. Though, she was trying to hold herself back from ripping into Clarence too hard. She'll do that when Kaia gets through the first stage of grief and enter the second stage-anger. "Drink." Her other hand went to Kaia's shoulder, squeezing it reassuringly, gently. Look-she knew she could snap Kaia in half. She wasn't going to try and do that any time soon. Kaia was so tiny and small. Especially compared to Eleni and Florian. Stephan...well, he was small in his own way. "I'm sorry, baby, I'm so sorry. If you want I can get him evicted from the country? Would that make it better?" She asked, trying to make a light hearted joke but who knows-she might actually go through with that.

The way she feels right now is so much more complicated than scorned woman, and so much harder to vocalize than depressed wife. She doesn't feel anything yet. What's wrong with her? Why isn't she crying? She should be, right? Clarence is having an affair. He's fucking another woman. He might even be in love with another woman. When did it start? Why? What was the tipping point? Was he ever loyal to her? Kaia has so many questions swirling in her head, and for fuck's sake that ringing won't stop. It infuriates Kaia more than she feels upset right now, and when Eleni goes to offer the glass of water, she pushes it away with maybe a little more intensity than she intends. Some sloshes on the ground a bit, but Kaia doesn't bother to clean it up. She pushes away from the counter and, with a very emotionally lost expression still on her face, disappears briefly down a hall. When she returns, she's armed with many cleaning products. Cleaning is a routine. It's safe. It's quiet. It lets her think. It keeps her focused on one thing: stains. She doesn't have to think about anything else. Before she weaves her fingers through the many bottles of bleach and cleaning detergent, she rubs her ears again, looking perhap for the first time, genuinely frustrated. She's drowning right now. She's feeling a lot of things, she doesn't know what to focus on, and maybe she's getting a little overwhelmed. But cleaning will help. Even when all her senses are in overdrive and she feels like she's about to shout out to the cruel universe to fuck itself, she has Wilma and Rufus to count on. Mop and broom. Brother and sister. Right. She needs — she needs the wood polisher, too, for the dining table. He cheated on me. Felton saw him cheating. Felton knows. Felton... The realization makes her freeze, going absolutely rigid upon the realization that her son saw his father cheating on her with another woman. Her heart drops to her stomach and Kaia swallows the not in her throat. I wasn't good enough to make him stay. They were right. I should've - God, why didn't I try harder? Kaia bites the inside of her cheek hard enough to draw blood, and doesn't shy away as she digs her teeth deeper into the soft skin. The pain doesn't even register in her head, just that same fucking ringing sound. "Fuck's sake," she whispers to herself, briefly shutting her eyes as she rubs her ears again. What the fuck is that noise? Detergent! Maybe she can wash a few batches of clothes.

Luckily, Eleni had moved out of the way when Kaia pushed the glass away so that only a splash of water spilt over the rim and onto the ground. Taking a sip of it herself, she slid it onto the counter and well out of harms way before charming the water away. She sent it to her miserable collection of flowers in her own house. She always forgot to water them so they kept on dying. She wasn't a natural gardener. Eleni knew Kaia was falling back onto coping mechanisms that she decided to sit back and let Kaia go through the motions. Let Kaia process what she just found out and then be a shoulder to lean on. Eleni watched with genuine concern as Kaia began to pull out cleaning materials and rubbing her ears. Again-Eleni wasn't really expecting anything different from a Yaxley. When Eleni got bad news-she hiked. When Stephan got bad news-he locked himself in his laboratory. When Kaia got bad news-she apparently cleaned. Eleni knew, that even though words weren't being verbalised, that Kaia's mind would be racing from one thought to another but Eleni wasn't a mind reader-she couldn't break that mental barrier like a legilimen perhaps could. Eleni leant back against the counter, adjusting so that her loose clothing adjusted in a way that her bump might have been visibly noticeable. She was only just in her second trimester and it wasn't that visible but it was beginning to be. So Eleni had already said goodbye to every form fitting outfit that she had. Of course, she was planning to tell Kaia. And everyone else. It was a...a Christmas surprise. But Eleni might bring it up gently later. A fun little afternote. Maybe she'll take her and Florian out to drink then go 'oh sorry I cant drink due to a human living inside of me but still refusing to pay rent but next ten rounds is on me!'. "Kaia..." she said, gently, trying to draw her sister out of her head but suspected this was to be a dismal attempt.

At fist, Kaia is in such a disconnect from reality but the overwhelming buzzing and the sudden, potent smell of bleach snaps her out of her xonfused daze momentarily. She's spiralling and, even though it's safe to say she's well within her right to do so, she refuses to continue falling apart in front of Eleni. There's a certain embarrassment that comes with letting your sister see how utterly destroyed a man can leave you. Kaia bites down on her lip harshly, gnawing on the skin as she forces her eyes shut and takes deep breaths. It's a simple technique but no less effective, and she can feel herself becoming more grounded and focused rather than drifting like she had before. More notably, as she slows into a grinding halt near one of the stools across of the island table, she clutches onto the border of the table and leans forward slightly for extra support. "Was it Cedrica?" she asks. Her voice cracks and for a moment, the shame feels stiflingly overwhelming. How can she ask that? She already knows the answer. Kaia sucks in a breath, however shaky it is, and shakes her head. She should've expected this. She had it coming for years now. "Where are the kids?" Merlin, she should've asked about them sooner. See? This is the kind of thing that makes her reason she should've expected losing her marriage. God, how can she be so blind? Not even blind. She knew this would happen, but in her blissful naïvety didn't believe Clarence would let what they had go to waste. But she was wrong, clearly. "I need to see them," she mutters, mostly to herself. She doesn't think she can stomach facing the repercussions of her own shortcomings, but she'll have to at some point — and really, this isn't fair to the kids at all. She needs to fix this as soon as she can.

Eleni could bring up a lot more embarrassing things about Kaia than her husband cheating on her. Their childhood had all sorts of stories that Eleni could draw upon. The name made her bite hard onto her bottom lip. Could she pretend the bleach has caused short term memory loss? Bleach has a lot of negative impacts on a person's brain surely Eleni could pull this off. The way Kaia's voice cracks make Eleni's heart drop further than it had already sunk and Eleni took in another deep breath. It was a good thing Kaia had somewhat gotten herself together-Eleni was beginning to consider slapping her back into reality. "Felton's with Florian. He...Felton left the girls with Clarence afterwards. As far as I'm aware they're still with him. I...I don't think you want me calling him to find out." The only thing that might be stopping Eleni from pushing Clarence off Wizco is the baby in her stomach. But even then-no promises. So it was best she stayed very far away. "Kaia, maybe not right now. You won't be able to hold everything together when you're on the verge of a panic attack," Eleni pointed out, pushing herself off the bench, closing the distance between them again to reach for the bottle of bleach. "Why don't you sit down." It was framed as a question but it was stated as a statement and Eleni really wasn't going to take anything that wasn't a yes.

"So they all know," she whispers. She doesn't have it in her to talk any louder; she feels a crushing pressure on her chest that's knocking the wind right out of her trachea. "Stop... Eleni, stop." Eleni doesn't deserve it, but Kaia's so upset right now that she snaps at her sister before she even realizes what she's saying. She pulls the bottle of bleach farther from her older sister's grip stubbornly. Her own grip on the bottle tightens, and Kaia doesn't realize her own strength until she's slamming it on the counter. She's grateful it's plastic; it probably would've broken otherwise. "I have to —" Kaia glances around them, looking for anything, anything that can provide a distraction. Anything that'll save her from Eleni's pitying stare. Kaia sees her wand not far from where she is, right besides the sink, and maves a move for it. It's when she has it in her hands that she flicks it at the very items she'd been holding a few seconds before. There's a flurry of movement all around them as the brushes and detergents all flutter out to start cleaning every surface in the room, and afterwards the living room. "He could've told me," Kaia thinks aloud as she moves around the kitchen, supplementing her magic by opening the cabinets that hold all the pots and pans. If she can't clean up her reputation, then she'll at least clean this damn kitchen. It'll be spotless by the time she's done. (To be frank, so will the rest of the house if she continues to spiral in a whirl of self-hatred and guilt.) "I would've let him go in a heartbeat." I just wanted him to be happy. He's happy now, she supposes. He got the happiness he wanted, even if he didn't go about it the right way.

At least it was magic doing the cleaning and not Kaia. Kind of. Eleni wasn't use to people outright ignoring her and Eleni was tempted to practically push her into a chair. But...Eleni decided her first tactic might be the best route still. Let Kaia go through the motions. "I know you would have," she said, "he doesn't deserve you. Never has. You were too good for him." Eleni wasn't fussed about Kaia being snappy with her. Kaia could yell at her if she wanted-Eleni could take it. Might have to get some ear muffs for her stomach though. Apparently they could hear sounds. Eleni shuffled from side to side though as the cleaning materials decided she was in their way and needed to move. Why was cleaning so aggressive? Almost instinctively, her hand went down to her stomach to protect it from any potential bottles that were flying her way. Of course, the hand pressed down the loose clothing to reveal the growing bump. If she ended up with a miscarriage because of volatile cleaning products, Eleni was going to strangle Clarence. His fault. At least she had a healer in the room. Eleni wasn't sure if she was a reliable at the moment but Eleni could take what she could get. "Not everyone knows! Stephen is still in his own little world! He's rarely brought out of it but he's still there." Eleni knew Stephen wasn't going to be much consolation. He didn't really know what was going on most of the time-Eleni felt like he sometimes forgets he's married half the time. Eleni was going to have to make a little note somewhere that Stephen could find easily and frequently. Kaia and Clarence have broken up. He cheated. Don't ask how he is.
