Julian was, as one might naturally assume, in the observatory to watch the stars as he ate his dinner. It was the dead of night but he'd finally gotten hungry enough that it warranted him cooking. Curry, of course, it was his favourite. Unfortunately, he decided he had added too much chilli. His tolerance was fine and he adored heat but...yeah, he might have added too much and his mouth was on fire so his dinner was practically untouchable (for now, anyway). So he flicked through one of the books, dreaming of the day adults stopped turning their noses at picture books and bring them back. They'd be so much easier for Julian's eyes.

Still intrigued by everything to do with The Black Parade, Magnus had taken it upon himself to explore at night. Whilst he was unsure on if he'd be allowed to during the day, it just felt more natural to him to sneak around at night. Plus he had to keep his skill stimulated in some way, right? Making his way to the observatory, Magnus was oblivious to the possibility of someone else being there. In truth, he was drawn to the place so he could look at the stars and feel like he was at home; countries changed but the stars stayed the same. In his mind, by looking at the sky he could imagine he was back in Norway or France.

One might hope that the stars change the same and then you see different constellations in different parts of the world. And then some disappeared due to climate change. However, in the clear space of the citadel, there was nothing to cover them. The perfect place for an observatory, really. When he heard someone ascend into the area, Julian first thought it was probably someone like Tessa or Soren, or one of the other more established members. However, it seemed the new recruits were becoming comfortable enough to explore whatever nook they could find. "Evening," Julian said with a grin when he laid eyes on Magnus, flicking a page of the book. "Beautiful night."

Magnus' body straightened when he realised he wasn't alone. Ashamed that he was too jumpy, he turned to Julian and offered him an apologetic smile as he ran his hand through his hair. He looked back up to the sky at the end of what Julian said and nodded. "It is beautiful," He said, "Clear and bright... just like Beauxbatons' starry nights." His voice trailed off as his mind wandered before he was brought back down. His smile became a little more bashful and confident as he took a seat opposite the other man. "Isn't night more appropriate than evening?"

"Tu es Francais?" Julian asked with a tilt of his head. "I'm a Hogwarts brat myself, though I hear Beauxbatons was a lot more...lighter than Hogwarts. Brighter. And sure, I suppose, I just don't want to face reality and realise my sleeping schedule is currently out of whack. It'd be evening in France? Or maybe Poland."

Magnus' ears perked at the French, a language he hadn't heard much since coming to England. "Oui," He said easily with a nod, "Et Norvégien." Magnus hummed in agreement, "Hogwarts definitely has a bit more of the British depressing feel about it; just with the dirty greyish brown bricks and all. I suppose there's a little charm in that." He thought about Julian's question for a moment and nodded, "Both of them are an hour ahead, so it'd be dusk? I'd imagine."

Tessa has come to appreciate the observatory much more than the watchtower, largely because of the emotional weight that place carries. She enjoys climbing the stairs and spending hours up on the platform, getting tipsy on wine or drunk on firewhiskey and crashing in Julian's room. Tonight is one of those nights, benefitting from Julian's weekend trip with the children, and she stares up at the night sky while enjoying her wine straight from the bottle.

A day has passed since he found Tessa and Morgan after their training session, and he's been meaning to have a talk with his daughter since then. He saw her go up to the observatory and follows, his own bottle of firewhiskey in hand. "Mind if I join?" he says, knocking on the entrance door a couple of times.

Tessa doesn't have to look behind her to know who it is. She smiles and nods, patting the spot next to her encouragingly. She takes a swig of her bottle for good measure and looks briefly over her shoulder, to double-check that - yeah, okay, good. "I'd love it if you did."

"It still stings a little, but it's probably just mental. I didn't think that jinx was that powerful," she admits, shaking her head. "I'm fine, though. And you?" Tessa turns her head to really look at him. She still felt bad. Not for banging Morgan up - he had it coming - but for letting him overpower her enough that her father had to see her so messed up.

"I'm fine now that you feel better." he tells her, "Hope Morgan's feeling better too. I checked up on him again and he was pretty adamant about not telling Sabrina. Heaven knows what's going on in that kid's mind having to process everything on his own. He still looks pretty beat up, too." He knows it's a bit bad to feel proud of his daughter for putting up a fight, but he smiles anyway. "Looks like you put up a good fight."

"I could've killed him if I'd wanted. Turning into a bird is quite dumb when you've had an artery cut. He was good, better than I expected, but he was still sloppy. There's a lot to fix, but he doesn't... he won't let me live this down," she sighs, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, I wouldn't want Sabrina involved either, but I don't know. I don't want a headache-inducing lecture, but I think there's something else going on there. Not that I blame him, Sabrina's been a shitty mum to him, off what I've heard," she comments. "A prevalent theme, it seems," she pauses and, realizing the connotation, winces. "Present company excluded."

He drinks some firewhiskey upon hearing Tessa's hostility. "Tess..." he begins, not unkindly, "It's a sixteen-year-old boy — of course he feels like he deserves to rule the world. He will grow out of these delusions of grandeur soon enough. He hasn't been on enough missions or been through enough shit to make him second guess his place here." Xavier sighs. "You are so strong, kid. I'm not saying the amount of trauma you had to face so young is what makes you deserving of the throne — it's how you grew from it. Morgan deserves that chance to grow, too."

The way Xavier starts his sentence makes Tessa roll her eyes. Like him, she takes another drink. "I never stated anything opposite to that," she defends, "All I'm saying is that he needs to be humbled. He'll be going on missions once the summer holidays begin, and his arrogance could cost him his life. For as much I dislike him, I still acknowledge he has a place here, dad," she mutters, shaking her head. She can't help but feel like she's being vilified, but bites back a scathing comment about it. She isn't in the mood for another argument, least of all with one of her parents. Further, his closing remark makes her purse her lips, like she wants to say something else but thinks otherwise at the last moment. She takes another drink.

He smiles reassuringly. "Whatever you think is best, I'll stand by it. I'm your number one fan." He nudges her shoulder playfully. "Can't believe they'll be starting on missions so soon, though. I'm assuming Sabrina told you to go for it?"

Tessa laughs and nods appreciatively, as his comment serves as a good mood and confidence booster. "She suggested it was the best way to get them to toughen up a bit, and I agree. I'm not sure how many sessions I can put them through before I lose patience and crucio them," she shakes her head, "Is that how you felt, dealing with me at sixteen?" Tessa queries, craning her neck to look up at him with a small, rueful smile. "Recently graduated, wanting to kill people left and right."
