It was the weekend, which gave her the perfect opportunity to slip away from Hogwarts for her first training session with Adele. She sounds scarier than Sabrina, but her body language still presents sheer confidence as she enters the Citadel's training arena despite the anxiety.

It's been a few weeks since she's actually set foot in the Citadel - most of her days now are taken up looking for Tessa - but the news of a new recruit is enough to draw her back, especially since it seems whoever it is has been assigned to her command. Honestly, the things you miss sometimes. She's perched on one of the outlying chairs with her nose buried in the stack of evidence she's collected as to her daughter's whereabouts when she hears footsteps, and looks up to see - ah. "I take it you're Jocelyn," she says, standing and approaching the girl who, wow, looks about the same age as the students.

Adele looks just about exactly as Jocelyn had been picturing in her head. She's quick to notice her and instantly realizes it's her before she even speaks. Her name just suits her. "And you're Adele," she says with a small smile. It isn't a question. "It's nice meeting you."

It doesn't take Adele long to size Jocelyn up and quickly answer all the questions she had: seventeen at the oldest, looks like the type of company the student Paraders would take under their wing. Definitely a Hogwarts recruitment. Something tells her this is probably going to become a thing. "I must admit, the owl telling me we were bringing on new members surprised me," she says, folding her arms across her chest. "Particularly in our current circumstances. But that tells me that you clearly showed promise. May I ask who recruited you? I'm guessing one of the Trio." It's becoming easier to refer to Morgan, Tristan and Iseult by that term than individually - they're practically glued to each other, after all.

She listens to Adele sizing her up in silence. A small smirk crept onto her face before the woman began speaking again. "Tristan did. We met in Knockturn over the summer," she says nonchalantly. She bites the inside of her bottom lip to prevent the smile that comes to her face at just the thought of that interaction. In hindsight, she really shouldn't have trusted him and he really shouldn't have trusted her. They did though and now she's here. "Did someone else name them that or did they come up with that themselves?" she asks, finding it humorous that they were called 'the Trio' especially if that's something they actually referred to themselves as.

She recognises the look that comes over Jocelyn's face, that little furrow of concentration, not intense enough to be easily seen if you aren't looking for it. Ah. You can read me. "It's what I call them," she says, a smile spreading across her face as she relaxes a little. "Let's be honest, whenever something happens, it's usually those three who have done it. Whatever 'it' is." Her wand rises and she summons over some of the chairs that surround the arena: mostly comfortable stools, used when people are catching their breath from training. "Please, sit. What were you doing in Knockturn?"

She turns when the chairs start sliding towards them, but quickly takes her spot at one of the stools. She crosses her legs and places her hands in her lap. "I was picking off of some people in Diagon Alley. I had a couple more hours before I had to go back to my job with the No-Majs," she says with a small, delicate shrug. "It was kind of slow, so I wandered into Knockturn to look at some things. I wasn't there on any sort of official business." She understands now - after seeing Knockturn - that that was probably a poor idea, but like many things, it got her here and she didn't regret it.

It doesn't surprise her that this girl is a good thief - people rarely look twice at women, she's short and agile and can slip under the radar, even as stunning as she is - so it makes sense that she's been sent to her. But the clairvoyance is really what interests Adele. "And yet you've been assigned to me to train in espionage. I take it that's because you're clairaudient," she says, with a knowing smile.

Jocelyn didn't show any interest in espionage prior to her conversation with Sabrina nor would she have even seen that as a possibility, but she supposes that that made sense. "I can only assume that would be the reason, yes," she says with a small smile. "- but I've never used my abilities like that before." Nor had she really thought it either. Sure, she figured out her ex-boyfriend was cheating using the same exact ability, but that wasn't really spying now was it? "Not really, anyways."

The formality of her speech makes Adele smirk - it's almost like talking to a mini-Sabrina, all collected and professional - and she tilts her head, inquisitive. "Relax, hun, this isn't a job interview. Well, not a proper one." The air is chilly, a breeze floating in from the cavernous mouths of the corridors and off-shoots so Adele casts a quick warming charm around the pair of them before sitting back down, elegantly folding one leg over the other. "So - your clairaudiency. Tell me everything. Is it born or learned? How strong is it - are there voices you can't hear? Voices you hear better than others?"

She smiles for a moment and revels in the warming charm for a brief moment before responding. "I was born with it and have always lived with it to a certain extent. I can focus on certain people if I want to, but it's a little exhausting at times if we're in open areas with a lot of people in them. It helps if I'm directly talking to the person - like we are right now - or in a small group. It could definitely be stronger if I worked on it, but I've never had that opportunity outside of my own studies." Her fathers didn't think it was a good idea because they didn't enjoy that she had the abilities to begin with, so they would do anything in their power to keep her from getting better. She had done some reading, which made her slightly more informed on legilimency, but it had barely modified her clairvoyancy. "It can be obvious, at least to smarter people like yourself or Morgan, when I'm focusing too much. I should get better at that too." She pauses, clearly in thought. "I hear essentially everything even when it's a language I don't understand or it's completely slurred, like with drunks." That's always really fun, she thinks to herself sarcastically, refraining from rolling her eyes at her own thoughts. "Unless you're an occlumens or even some legilimens and clairvoyants get good at blocking their thoughts out, but that's a very small minority of people, so it usually isn't an issue. Sometimes people are shouting in their heads, then I hear them louder. Or if they're deep in thought and zoning out, it tends to come in in quiet waves, but I can still hear it if I give any ounce of effort. I just usually don't since I've never had a use for it and it gets annoying."

“Interesting,” she muses, listening intently; where all these insanely powerful teenagers keep popping up from, she’ll never know. The Citadel almost resembles a crèche at this point. “Your talent is undeniable. What you’re hearing is unfiltered thoughts, and as you said, you’ve had no reason to learn to control it and hone your abilities. But I doubt you’ll need any help in strengthening your powers - they seem plenty strong already.” She smiles, instantly fond. Tristan has a good eye. “When you say you’re focusing too much, and it becomes obvious, what do you mean? You said Morgan figured it out?” The fact that she herself figured it out also is irrelevant - she’s been doing this for years.

"Um, he told me that I have a look. I do, I think," she says, doing her best unnatural interpretation of it as she could muster. She didn't need to try so hard when the other person wasn't talking anymore because they thought too much in their own silence and it just came to her. "Most boys at Ilvermorny have never said a word, but he's right. It's obvious I'm concentrating on something. I think if I get better at focusing in on it, I won't have to strain myself so much in trying to do so and then it wouldn't be as obvious." She thought that logic makes sense, but she shrugs. "I'd like people to preferably not know that I'm listening - obviously."

“That’s natural,” she nods, referring to the ‘look’ Jocelyn’s talking about; it’s usually the first thing that gives Legillimens away whenever she’s out on a mission. “And you’ll learn to be more discreet as you practice. Listening because you have to and listening because you want to are two very different things.” Seeing an opportunity, a smirk crosses her face and she sits forward, clearly intrigued. “In fact - try to read me, now. Don’t worry about being subtle. I’m quite the dab hand at Occlumency, so I’ll do my best to block you out. Just listen for what you can.”

The walls fly up as soon as she feels Jocelyn enter her head: it’s like a sharp headache, a needle point in her temple that shouldn’t be there, and she works quickly to contain it. “Relax a little,” she says, seeing the concentration on Jocelyn’s face, the furrow in her eyebrows. “Don’t push so hard all at once. Be smart about it. If you attack all at once, it tires you out. Find a weak point.”

She frowns for a moment, unfolding her arms to push some hair back behind her ear. She relaxes her eyebrows, but her expression is smug and annoyed. "Are you actually worried about me tiring myself out or are you trying to get me to stop and give up because it's really just bothering you?" she asks before focusing again, not really waiting to hear an answer.

The smugness makes her suppress a smile, but she remains poised and composed as Jocelyn sighs. “If it was bothering me, you’d know,” she points out, before letting down a little piece of her defences that would allow access to a memory of the previous day, where she’d been kicking Xavier’s arse at poker. “Keep trying. Find a weak point.”

With one little piece, it becomes easier to chisel away at the whole picture. She can tell there's two people, but they're both from Adele's voice and memory. She knows him well, but not enough to perfectly mimic his voice in her head. Close though, maybe. She doesn't know him enough to judge. "So, you're good at poker or he's just really shit at it?" she asks, but she doesn't lose her focus this time. Her words are more like her own thoughts just escaping her lips absentmindedly. If she was paying them any mind, she probably would have smirked.

She can feel that Jocelyn’s received the memory before she hears the confirmation, but it makes her laugh regardless. “I’m very good at it. Though he beats me at darts, so I’d say we’re even.” Then she puts the defences back up, without warning, feeling Jocelyn being forced out. “Now you know where the memory is and what you’re looking for, try again.“

She isn't good at memories. It isn't what she's ever been good at, but she keeps her mouth shut. She tries digging for it again, pushing away her own memory of what it was as to not confuse herself. She puts a little more effort in than last time, but she's careful not to strain herself.

“I know memories aren’t your speciality,” she begins as she feels Jocelyn poke around in her head; it’s the weirdest sensation, like a travelling headache, like mini lightning strikes. “But in this line of work, memories can often be more valuable than thoughts. Thoughts are subjective - if somebody only knows half of the story, that is all you will hear. But you can’t hide memories. They reveal everything.”

If I wanted to use Iseult, I’d be training her now, she thinks, clear like a bell - her own Legillimency, though nowhere near to Jocelyn’s level, hasn’t left her, even after so many years of non-use. Add as many knives to your belt as possible. That way you won’t get stuck.

Adele's thoughts are loud - much louder than anything else she was getting from her, so it takes Jocelyn back. The annoyed look falls from her face for only a mere second before it hardens again. She tries not to smile at the visual of literally having several knives under her belt. No one needs that many knives and she loves them. Fine. she thinks before focusing herself again, shifting slightly in her seat.

It's no abnormality for new members of the Parade to not trust each other yet. It took years for her to get used to Karith. "Interesting. Well, obviously I'm not going to force you both to get along," she says, lips quirking up; both the girls have such strong personalities, as unhelpful as it would be, Adele can't deny that fight would be entertaining. "But it would be extremely useful if you could establish a flow of connection. Telepathy is a valuable skill on a mission."

"I don't think it'll take forcing. I wasn't involved with the Parade when we spoke and it was only a brief interaction," she comments with a shrug. Of course she wants to be on good terms with Iseult especially if she's friends with the other two. "Still trust needs to be formed on its own, but it would be interesting to say the least - having the ability to communicate telepathically."
