Although the year had just begun, Aphrodite was one of those people who liked to get ahead whenever she could, thus she was sat in the courtyard reading ahead in her Charms textbook. She felt, though unspoken, that there was pressure to perform well seeing as she had both of her brothers in her year. She by no means considered it a competition but she couldn't help but feel that their parents were watching to see which of the three were doing the best.
Apollo had the same hunch, or perhaps for him worry, that their parents would be watching to see who of the three kids would perform the best. Unfortunately for Apollo, it seemed as though he was already at a disadvantage. After all both Aphrodite and Adonis were prefects, Adonis for the second time now. Sure being prefect wasn't everything, but it definitely would look good in their parents' eyes. He didn't let it get to him too much though, especially considering he had good grades. Like Aphrodite however, that wasn't going to stop him from studying. Finding the clock tower courtyard to be one of his favourite places to study, Apollo made his way into the courtyard and found a spot under a tree to sit.
Aphrodite, at first, didn't see that her twin was in the courtyard with her - she was so engrossed in studying that it was the last thing to cross her mind. When she looked up and saw him, however, a smile appeared on her face and she promptly folded the corner in her textbook to walk over to him and make conversation. Without saying a word, she plopped down beside him and tried to get a glimpse at what he was studying on, "What did you choose to study, hmmm?"
Apollo had heard footsteps approaching him but sited it as someone just walking by and thought nothing of it. But when Aphrodite had sat down beside him, it caused Apollo to jump a bit as his sister startled him. "You almost gave me a heart attack!" He responded as he pushed her playfully, a smile on his face as he lifted his textbook up a bit for her to see the cover. "Charms, what about you?"
Eugene was leaned back on a fountain in the centre of the courtyard, marveling at the statues surrounding him. He enjoyed the piece and quietness around him, the calming sound of water dripping was making him slowly drift to sleep. He checked his phone to see the time - he had another forty-five minutes before his next class. Deciding to close his eyes for a brief moment, he easily fell asleep.
Dennis walks in the courtyard through a massive rock door, the sound of pendulum's loud swings still echoing in his ears. To his pleasant surprise, the courtyard seemed a bit quieter, Dennis hears only water droplets coming from the fountain in the middle. Being new to Hogwarts, exploring it a bit seemed like a logical idea, but thus far, from what he had seen, the castle can't own up to the Beauxbâtons' chateau - except maybe this place. The serene greenery, quietness and marble statues screamed Opulence! that he was used to. Deciding to take a walk through this hidden paradise, Dennis spotted a handsome stranger sleeping on the fountain. Mein Gott! he thought while staring at the boy who seemed about his age.
Eugene barely heard the footsteps, but they weren't enough to make him actually open his eyes. He simply tilted his head the other way around, hoping whoever's footsteps he heard wasn't gonna interrupt his leisure time.
"Were sleeping." he corrected his fellow student. "I got caught up in the moment, usually I don't tend to sleep just about everywhere." Eugene straightened himself and gestured the boy to sit next to him. "The name's Eugene, by the way." he said while checking his phone. I still got 30 minutes til next class, I guess a new friend wouldn't hurt.
He noticed his peer was standing a bit awkwardly with his outstretched hand. Eugene accepted the hand, shook on it firmly, and pulled Dennis' hand lightly, subtly telling him it's okay to sit right next to him.
Dennis gets tangled up in Eugene's hands which prevented him from hurting his head, but as a result, he ends up lying on top of him, their hands tangled up. "Thanks" he mutters while smiling awkwardly.
"Sorry!" his words synchronise with Dennis'. Truth be told, Eugene didn't really mind having Dennis on top of him. "Didn't realize it'd be so easy to sweep you off your feet." he continues jokingly, returning him a smile.
Dennis blushes a bit, mostly due to embarrassment, partly thanks to Eugene's obvious flirting. "Heh, what can I say. I'm a klutz." he spoke while untangling their arms, taking a place next to his newfound friend.
"We're practically the same person. Except I don't really tend to sleep out in the open." he jokes while hitting Eugene with elbow. "I'm a fifth year Raven as well." Dennis explains his previous question.
Eugene chuckled. "Well, for starters, I tend to sleep indoors. I just happened to fall asleep, I was up last night, homework got a bit out of control." he justified himself. "I tend to focuse on my studies, besides, I'm kind of new to this place so I don't really have many friends."
"You got one more." he says gently. A single beam of sunlight falls onto his face, accenting his perfectly white teeth in his gentle smile. "I'm a transfer student myself." Dennis continues, showing Eugene his musketeer badge he got last year. "Beauxbâtons."
"Oh cool!" he took a better look at the badge. "So you were one of the Three Musketeers, eh?" Eugene joked, not quite sure what the badge was representing. "I transferred from Ilvermorny, in case you couldn't tell by the accent."
"You could say so..." Dennis notices Eugene's confusion regarding his badge. "It's pretty much the same thing as a prefect." he clarifies while putting the badge away. "Us newbies gotta stick together, am I right?" he punches Eugene's shoulder and smiles once again.
"You do make a fair point." Eugene said while grinning. "Besides, my mum's a journalist so I guess I could get the summary anytime I ask." he said a bit awkwardly. Why didn't he do any research before moving to the UK? "So how was Beauxbâtons? I imagine it's far prettier than this place."
"Don't even get me started on the damn stairs..." he rolls his eyes. "I get lost several times a day." Dennis rants in frustration. "I'm always almost late to classes, but I hope I'll get uses to them."
Dennis accepts his hand and abruptly gets up, their faces only few centimeters apart. He locks his gaze with Eugene's, but quickly takes a step back, starting to blush a bit. Dennis remained silent, still holding onto his hand. After realizing that, he quickly jerked it away with an awkward smile.
Not quite sure how to react to Dennis' sudden reaction, he simply put his hands in his pockets. "C'mon, we're gonna be late!" he walked hastily towards the massive stone gate which led inside the castle.
