Hana and Billie
「 Billie Morrigan 」seventh year hufflepuff • head girl • one eye open
The weather, to say it’s deep into autumn, is surprisingly nice for this country today; blue skies, no harsh breeze and even a bit of white sun splashing down onto the stone walls of the courtyard. So, Billie’s taking the opportunity to study outside. She’s been and watered the plant, told it the story of giving Felton all her blue dresses so his date could go to the ball, and then found a spot on the courtyard to sit down and dump all her textbooks. She really needs to finish this History of Magic essay - even if she has already seen that she’s going to get an O.

Hana's already studying in the courtyard. It's so nice out; one of her favorite things about studying abroad is the weather. However, occasionally it can be inconvenient. Just now, a breeze comes and blows an Arithmancy scroll away in none other than Billie Morrigan's general direction. How... fun. The breeze calms down without blowing it too far away, so Hana gets up and walks over to Billie, smiling as unthreateningly as she can. Jude probably wouldn't like it if she scared off his new favorite friend. "Hi, Billie," she says, picking up her paper. "Nice seeing you here."

She looks up when the scroll blows across and bumps her leg, thinking it’s probably a loose scrap of parchment somebody’s dropped, but her face blossoms into a smile when she sees the familiar face. “Hana! Hi,” she grins, raising a hand to block out to sun. “Oh, I watered the plant this morning! He’s doing fine. It’s a he, I think. How are you?!”

Tangina. She gendered the plant. Why is that unsurprising? Hana bets she gave it a name too, or something weird like that. Billie's so nice; of course she's the type of person who'd get attached to an inanimate object like that. "I'm okay." she says, peering at whatever Billie's working on. "Is that your History of Magic paper?" It looks unfinished, Hana notes mentally. So strange considering she and Jude were supposed to be studying together after all. Was that not enough time to complete schoolwork in advance? They must've had fun, then, which would've distracted them from the primary purpose of their hangout. Cute.

She’s no spirit nymph, not be a long shot, but she can tell when she’s not liked; or at least, being annoying. That’s why she’s so nice to everyone, especially the people that don’t like her - how else can she change it other than be nice to them? But Jude likes Hana, so that makes her okay in Billie’s book. “Oh- yeah,” she nods, looking down at the parchment in her lap. “I was supposed to finish it ages ago but I keep getting distracted. And it’s a really boring topic, isn’t it? Only the essay topics are the most boring.”

"I liked History of Magic better at my old school." she says, trying to engage more in this conversation. Jude would want her to be nice. More than that, this girl really needs to cut Brad Schloenfield out of her life, and Hana thinks that she isn't going to make any progress convincing her if she keeps on antagonizing her. She sits down next to Billie, figuring she might as well if she plans on staying here for a while. "We would actually discuss world history. Here, I'm kind of getting bored learning about all these dead white people." She rolls her eyes. "The essay's easy to BS though. I finished it two days ago and submitted early. You should be fine." She feels like she needs to be putting more effort into this conversation. She thinks for a second before coming up with: "How are you?"

She shuffles over a little when Hana sits down to give her some room, and feels a little flicker of oh, okay, maybe this will work. Hana’s so intimidating, in every sense of the word; it confuses her a little how Jude likes her so much, but then again, Jude’s lovely too. He gets along with everyone. “I’m okay,” she grins at the question. “I’ve been trying to plan everything for the bake sale next week, and I think I’m just about there. All the leftovers are coming to the greenhouses, anyways, so more for us.”

"I remember you mentioning that in the group chat." she says. Hana can follow a recipe but she isn't spectacular at baking, so she saw no point in volunteering to help with something when she knows she won't be particularly useful. "Where do the proceeds go, again? I can't seem to recall."

For some reason she feels nervous when she says, "The Backpackers' Hostel. You know, the one in London? Az is staying there, and I just thought it'd be nice to send them the money so they could buy some new furniture or decorate or something, y'know? I mean- you know Az pretty well, right? You did scalp Chloe," she adds with a sunshiney grin; she's made peace with what they did to the Schloenfield sister. Even if she doesn't agree with it personally, she can't deny that Chloe deserved some sort of consequences. Scalping is a bit much, but for some reason, it doesn't seem particularly out of place for Hana.

She thinks about Az and how protective he seems to be of Billie and is reminded of yet another reason why she can't just hate this girl outright. Huh. Maybe it was time to start putting more effort into this friendship, then, or whatever this might becmoe. "I barely know Az." she clarifies, "I don't think I've ever spoken more than four words to him in person. We kind of have this mutual understanding where when one of us shows up somewhere, the other just leaves, which I daresay, is even better than an actual friendship." Hana shrugs. "Didn't realize you two were so close though. You don't exactly seem like the type of people who would get on." Then, realizing that might sound rude, she adds, "No offense."

Hearing that Az is just as curt with other people feels like a weird relief: okay, good, so it's not just that he hates her. He's like that with everybody. Thank God. "I don't know if you'd call us close," she admits, shaking her head. How she'd explain bumping into him all the time and finding a body in an alleyway together is a pointless endeavor, but she also doesn't want to tell her. It feels like it's- theirs. "I think it's more like I turn up and annoy him for a bit, and then he leaves." She doesn't take offence to what Hana says because it's not like she's wrong. "But he's nice, in his own way. Our whole group is nice, really! Jude's great, and RK. And Sybil's one of my best friends, so..." she trails off, grinning.

"I haven't met anyone but Vilja and Jude." she says, thinking fondly of both of them. "Oh, and I met Warren the other day when I went to the greenhouse." she adds, thinking of their encounter. "I have to admit he's a lot better in person and I look forward to working with him." She can tell already that he's not lazy, he's just... struggling academically. Whatever. It doesn't matter. As long as he was putting in the effort, that was more than enough. Hana has this new goal to get him an O in Herbology or any subject really – she's always loved being able to make the seemingly impossible happen. It just proves how good she is at things. "Professor Prince talked to me, though, about maybe adding another member. I wonder who."

As Hana talks, Billie starts grabbing all her study things that are sprawled in a semi-circle around her and stacks them aside, the essay long forgotten. She doesn't speak to Vilja very much and she's yet to meet Warren outside of the group chat, but hearing that Hana actually likes him after how she spoke to him in the chat is a bit of a relief. "Another one?" he echoes, eyebrows rising in surprise. They've already got half the class working on one project. "How is there anyone left to add? Did Professor Prince say who it is?"

"I think they might split us in half after this new addition." she says, frowning. The idea of being separated from Jude or Vilja or even Billie (because she knows that she can trust the other girl's work ethic and academic capability) upsets her. It simply won't do to just, not have a good set of groupmates. She's also gotten attached to the idea of helping Warren pass Herbology, so there's that too. "I'm not sure who it is. I don't think a name was mentioned."

The idea of the group being split up makes her smile drop instantly - they all work so well together, how would separating them all make any sense? Plus she likes her groupmates. Jude makes her laugh, and Sybil is her world and Az... it would feel weird not having him there. "I hope that doesn't happen," she says, wide-eyed. She's friendly enough to get along with basically anybody, but this little assortment is by far the best project group she's ever been in. "We all work so well together! This is the first Herbology group I've been in where nobody's forgotten to water the plant. That's an achievement."

"It really is." she agrees, the idea of the group splitting up also not sitting well again. "I just hope I don't end up with Chloe – she's always been horrible to me but lately it's even more annoying because she's like, in love with Jude now for some reason so she alternates between being a total bitch and sucking up to me as if that's supposed to help her case."

A-ha, her suspicious were correct. Or at least, the glancing thought that had popped into her head a few weeks ago and she'll definitely act like she knew it the whole time. Like she said to Sybil, she doesn't need to be a Seer to see what's going on there. "Did she find out Jude's a prince?" she thinks aloud - it'd make the most sense. Chloe is nothing if not shallow. "She's - really mean. For no reason. I don't get why she says the things she does."

It's an odd choice of words to describe him but fitting, Hana guesses. "Me neither." Hana agrees, before deciding this might be a good way to transition into another topic she's been meaning to get into with Billie. "Her brothers aren't that great either."

She knows what's coming as soon as Hana mentions the brothers, and she quickly presses her lips together and looks at her lap. No doubt Hana's probably staring daggers at her right now. "No," she says, quiet. "They're not."

"Look, Billie, I get it. You're an angel. You believe in being nice to everyone, which is valid I guess. Definitely noble, at the very least." she says, looking at her nails as she talks, trying to make this whole thing as casual as possible. She's not in the mood to have a heart to heart with Billie of all people. What if she ends up crying or something? That seems in character. Then Hana would be completely out of her depth. "But some people don't really know how to take a hint, and more often than not those people are gross boys like Brad Schloenfield." She rolls her eyes just having to say his name. "You shouldn't be talking to him anymore. He's not worth it. No boy is, really, but him especially."

It's pretty safe to say that Billie trusts too easily, so she listens intently to Hana's advice and it's not a big revelation when she accepts that she's right. "I know," she groans, frustrated; she actually blocked Brad last week after she got a really weird text at like, midnight, but not before she finally got to the root of the issue. "He found out about some thing I had with a boy over summer and I think he just... got jealous, or something. Even though there was nothing to be jealous about. But it got so weird."

"Just cut him off." she says, flippantly after listening to Billie's story. When it becomes apparent that it seems like Billie finally had enough and decided to let go of trying to be nice to him, Hana smirks a little bit. "It's unfortunate that you had to get a 'weird text' from Brad Schloenfield of all people." she begins, "But I'm proud of you for acknowledging that it was inappropriate and he didn't have any right to be jealous. Good job."

She gives Hana a look, not sure if the praise is fully genuine or a little condescending, and decides to go with the former because that's nice, right? "Out of all the people in our year, I end up attracting Brad Schlonfield. Talk about bad luck." She neglects mentioning the other boy she attracted too - it's a little too soon to talk about for her. Though knowing her luck, she'll end up bumping into him again soon.
