Personality

Colette's priority, first and foremost, is to ensure the safety of everyone, regardless of who they are or what their political views are. She's not the aggressive type, and would sooner act the diplomat than resort to getting physical with anyone. It's no secret Colette is in a privileged position, what with her family successfully buying the silence of many regarding her nymph heritage, and she'll be damned if she doesn't use this opportunity to help the less fortunate. It's not to say she's guilty, but rather she wants to make the best of her situation. It's why she had her aunt help her find the licenses required to open L'Impulsion - she knew, one way or another, she would be helping her people.

Only recently has Colette become very comfortable with her identity, but truth be told, she finds herself to be very outspoken. Although during her Hogwarts years, she had a very black and white way of seeing things, she's since come to learn this is not the case. When she began working as a healer, and now with everything going on regarding Alistair Fitzgerald's administration, she had a preamble that there was no such thing as a gray area in life. But her career has disproven her, showing her the world can't necessarily be categorized as right or wrong like she had led herself to believe. She's taken it in stride, accepting she had a really shitty way of looking at things once upon a time and being grateful she's been lucky enough to have people willing to help her learn and grow.

Always striving to be the friend you can rely on, it's doubtful there's anyone more trustworthy than Colette Belfrey. She's very social and likes meeting new people, struggle as she may to actually make any significant connection. She's as supportive as she is outgoing, and takes pride in remembering and caring for the small things. She's always willing and ready to talk if you need it, and believe it or not, usually provides some pretty good advice. Furthermore, Colette is very into taking risks, because as she so warmly puts it, there's no other way to be a hero. While she used to prefer playing things safe, there is no such thing as safe anymore. She's careful, sure, but she's willing to go to great lengths for the sake of herself and others.

History

The Belfrey family has had their fortune for a long time now, for as long as the records have kept track of them. The Belfreys are known for birthing children who grow and branch out to become some of the most productive members of society, as entrepreneurs, lawyers, healers, government officials, etc. Over time, they've come together and amassed an unimaginable wealth, to which every Belfrey now has access to, contrary to the times where only the men in the family had access. Though they've always been centered in France & the United Kingdom, you're likely to find a descendant of the original Belfreys wherever you go - granted you know where to look. Lord knows the Belfreys breed fast, and at great quantities.

A key component of their family is the way they've come across throughout time. They're one of the original families in the world of magic - they've been in this Earth for centuries now, and thus feel a sense of superiority. It's not so much because they're of pure status - that's far from it. They've seen the rise and fall of many legendary families, great wizards and witches coming and going simply because they saw themselves as the best of the best, just because of the purity of their blood. That doesn't take away from the fact, though, that not all of them share the same mindset. Now think about how difficult it must be, living with a family that's ethically & morally diverse. The current Belfrey patriarch is a blood supremacist, despite his inclusive upbringing. He lived around the era of the Great Wizarding Wars, and has clung onto old ideals as an (undiscovered) former Death Eater. That, in itself, is bad enough.

His eldest daughter, Victoire Belfrey, is a prideful, arrogant woman. She strives to be one of the most powerful, one of the richest and most beautiful women to grace the British wizarding society. She's an over-accomplisher who married into the Yaxley family - a family known for their purity, their stance on muggle-borns and creatures, and the sheer amount of influence they have, what with all the political figures and lawyers they've spawned. Victoire is easily one of Bartholomew's favorite offspring; she understands what power is and strives to have it all. For that reason, her children's upbringing involved awareness of their status, and subsequently loads of tutoring on proper etiquette. They are, suffice to say, modern nobility - they have been ever since the rise into power of the Magical Monarchy. They need to look and act the part.

A slight miscalculation Victoire made, several years after she married Finnegan and gave birth to firstborn Matheo Belfrey, was the amount of drinks she could have before losing her judgment. Because there, in the middle of everything, was Griffin Fletewoode, a spirit nymph who often preyed on drunk women whilst disguised as a normal warlock. Without control of what she thought and did, Victoire ended up sleeping with Griffin, the result being her first daughter: Colette Margery Belfrey. Without a recollection of what had happened the night prior, and no traces of Griffin in the apartment she'd bought for when she needed time to herself, Victoire had no reason to believe the child she soon found out she was expecting was anyone other than her husband's. To this day, she maintains she'd have terminated the pregnancy had she knows.

Growing up, Colette had no reason to believe she wasn't a Belfrey through and through. Her father loved her like his own, her aunts and uncles were fond of her, and she generally tried to maintain a close relationship with each and every one of her siblings - regardless of how close or far they were to her in age. Nevertheless, the love she felt from her relatives was much more than what she felt from Victoire herself. At the hand of Victoire's thirst for power, a strain was placed on their relationship. It was never what Colette desperately wanted it to be, and at one point, she just... gave up. She recognized continuing to push for the mother-daughter relationship she so desperately yearned for was futile. Victoire was, and always would be, more concerned with her sons, the secret formula for her and Bartholomew's plans to ascend to power.

Come age nine, Colette felt lonelier than she ever thought she could be. She had her younger brother Ethan, who just so happened to be her closest friend, but truth be told, it wasn't enough. She never truly felt appreciated in the family. She had her manifestations of magic when she was around 6 (baking her cupcakes to perfection), like all her siblings, but something still didn't feel right. One way or the other, she felt like a black sheep, and it wasn't until she turned 10 that it all started to make sense. Weird things would start happening to her - she could tell what kind of person someone was, what they were interested in and how they felt, and could go as far as to say their blood purity. Something wasn't right with Colette, and her eyes going purple reinforced this. She was nothing short of a freak in her mother's eyes. Her mother, who didn't quite realize what was going on until it all came back to her one night: Griffin Fletewoode.

There was a period of time - around a year, maybe more - in which Colette was further alienated. Her mother was even harsher than before, her "father" would no longer look her in the eye, her cousins tried avoiding her, even her siblings had the tendency to shy away. Nevertheless, she persisted, adjusting to her life albeit a little sadly. At age 11, Colette was sent to Hogwarts, where she was sorted without hesitance into Hufflepuff. She thrived in Hufflepuff, with people much like her. After seven quick years at Hogwarts, Colette graduated with excellent marks. Shortly after graduation, she came to the decision that she wanted to be a healer. Her family was still on odd terms with her, though most had already gotten used to her true heritage. And it's not like it'd damaged their image - they had successfully bought the silence of many in the Ministry, and were able to maintain Colette's blood status a secret.

Colette was 21 when Alistair Fitzgerald rose to power. She was in Africa on one of what she had dubbed her 'healing tours'. This, coupled with the rise in hatred in the United Kingdom, was enough to catch her attention. But she didn't return, not yet - she wanted to see how it'd all play out, and what stance her family would take on this. When it became evident the Belfreys would preserve their reputation, no matter who was affected, then Colette made the decision to move - even if her family didn't want to help out, Colette would. No matter what she had to do.
