Dakota through and through is a very optimistic person when it comes to his outlook in life. He'll always try his hardest to try and find the good in someone and if he can't find it, he gets down on himself or the situation. It takes a lot for Dakota to give up, whether it be after failing to find the good in something, or failing in a task. He always wants to do things the best he can and if he isn't successful then a small bit of his passion fades. Being stubborn however, it takes a lot for Dakota to give up or for his spirits to be broken and he won't compromise who he is for anything.
Being a very shy and timid person, it can be hard for Dakota to open up as he doesn't want to be put in a position where he's misunderstood or judged. Seeing it best to observe than get involved as that opens him up to things he can't control, which he doesn't like doing. He observes and listens to many, but talks to just few people. Despite not being a very open and charming person, Dakota is incredibly reliable and often times he struggles to maintain his own self if he knows someone he is close to is in need of help.
Dakota grew up as a very dependent and needy child, and although he's grown through the years, not much has changed in that sense. He still tends to be very dependent and possessive of those he cares for, often getting far too devoted in someone for his own good. One thing that has changed however is that Dakota is a lot more patient than he used to be, it came with the help of his step-father who helped ground him a bit more than he was prior. Despite his love for his step-father, Dakota is a momma's boy through and through. Preferring stability rather than something that is always changing, Dakota needs consistency in his life to stay focused and practical. If that stability falters, he normally ends up throwing a fit.
History
Samantha Evans was a mere university student in her second year of medical school when she accidentally got pregnant at a frat house party. It was the first time in her two years of university that she ever went to a party, and was only convinced by her roommate who ditched her half way into the party. The day after Samantha regretted everything from the night before, and honestly didn't even fully remember what she did aside from that she seemed to recall hooking up with someone of Hispanic descent.
Figuring out what exactly to do with the baby when she found out she was pregnant was a struggle. For the first half of her pregnancy Samantha heavily considered adoption, but as things got closer to the due date Samantha found herself growing attached to the baby inside her. She had never once considered talking to the father, not wanting to trap him in some sort of family he didn't want. Instead deciding to go through the pregnancy alone all the way up to childbirth, in which she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy who she decided to name Dakota.
From birth, Dakota was a very dependent baby. He would always cry unless being held by his mother and it was hard to get him down for naps. It was nearly impossible for Dakota to be left in the care of Samantha's roommate whenever his mother had class and if he were to go with her, he'd be far too fussy and disrupt the classroom environment too much. But his needy dependency didn't stop at infancy, it carried out long passed Samantha had graduated and found herself a job. In his first year of elementary school Dakota proved to his teachers and his mom that he wasn't ready for school. Instead, Samantha decided to pull Dakota out of school and hire a personal teacher so he could be homeschooled.
Homeschooling appeared to be a much better fit for Dakota, and not long after Samantha ended up getting married to Dakota's teacher. A nice man by the name of Brett. Brett, while not teaching Dakota, was a night school teacher which was perfect because that meant he could still teach Dakota. Dakota was eight at the time of his first magical experience. Being a muggle-born it wasn't like anything he'd ever heard of or been taught by Brett. It was after a lesson and Dakota was looking at his textbook thinking about calling it quits on studying when suddenly, his textbook flew across the room. Little did Dakota know, his step-father was actually a half-blood wizard who had given up on the wizarding world.
With Brett being able to help Dakota through learning what was happening to him and what was to come, Dakota seemed to gain a fairly good basis for what was ahead of him. However he had no clue what to expect or really anything about the magical world, just that there was a school for kids like him and he'd learn more when the time came. Sure enough, the year Dakota was turning eleven, he got a letter of acceptance into Hogwarts.
