Dark Lore: Introduction
I write this book from my Secret Chamber down beneath the school of Hogwarts. Though I don't intend for anyone to ever find this place or these notes, I can't help but feel that someday they will be found. However, I need some way to log my research and keep track of the variety of different experiments and tests, most of which will be occuring simultaniously. To that end, I'll be using this record to keep track of everything, from my experiments on the prisioners to the experimental spells which I'm developing. To prevent their misuse I will place powerful curses and rituals upon this Chamber and my notes, for in the wrong hands, they could be a catalyst for unspeakable evil.
While I know I am seen as evil amoung the students of Hogwarts (especially Godric's students) there is a difference between a thirst for knowledge and the outright intention to use it for evil purposes. I have that unquenchable thirst for knowledge, and though I know if any of my research or experiments are found by the other Founders they would call me evil and in all likelyhood try to kill me, I don't do any of this research in any attempt to ursurp power or for getting pleasure from watching pain or delving into other's minds. Rather, I feel that this knowledge can be used responsibly and to futher our knowledge and our capabilities with magic. Though some of the research may seem 'evil', and I'll be the first to admin it's grisly work, I'm comfortable being the one to sacrifice for the advancement and increase in magical power for those who continue to practice the art.
So, if you are indeed reading this volume, it means that you have broken the spells cast over this place and these notes, and have been deemed worthy to recieve the knowledge. It means you follow in my footsteps and though you may have qulams about 'means and motives', you also place more value on results as do I. I should note that while most can simply cast a spell...modifying those spells and changing the way they normally work isn't easy, which is why I favor the cunning and thoughtful. It takes that sort of mental twisting to make the things written here work instead of just blindly and clumsily waving a wand and producing spells.
I'll warn you now...these notes and experiments are not for the faint of heart, and if you don't feel yourself worthy put them down now, and the defensive spells will reactive so long as Hogwarts still exists. There is no shame in admitting you don't have the knowledge or ability to produce such advanced magic. However, if you are craving the knowledge forbidden to those of our Order, and forbidden for me to teach at Hogwarts, continue and learn the secrets of the Forbidden Arts.
