Characters must be wizards/witches, or one of the other characters as outlined in J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter books. If they do not conform to this genre, then they will be deleted. Remember to get your character Sorted.
Character Names: Full
You must have both a First and Last Name, or your character will not get Sorted. Both your character's first and last name must be capitalized, in order to follow proper grammar.
Character Names: Language
Your character names must be appropriate. No swearing in the names.
Character Names: Nonsense
You must have a NAME. Not random letters. The name can be very very very very very creative. In fact, it doesn't have to be real. But please, your name SHOULD NOT be random letters, nor contain numbers.
Example: ufo yo po jo
Character's Name: Canon (PLEASE READ)
Same Name as a Character
Your character should not be the exact same name as a character from Harry Potter. Please, do not name your character Harry Potter or Hermione Granger. It can be Harry, or Luna, but not "Harry Potter" or "Luna Lovegood".
Relationship with Characters
(I.e. John Potter)
You are not allowed to be directly related to any important character in the Harry Potter books. This means you cannot be the son or daughter of Harry Potter, or Severus Snape. You may be related to a magical family, such as the Blacks, but there is no reason to have to spell out the direct connection.
Users who have been active on this wiki for less than one month are limited to 2 characters. After one month, there is no limit to the amount of characters a user can have, though do not allow yourself more than you can handle. An ideal maximum is 10 characters per user, however if you can control and roleplay more than that, you are allowed. If you have an excess of unroleplayed characters, you will be asked by the administration to delete some, and given a warning not to create so many again.
Your character should not be able to perform magic above their year in school. For example, anyone below 6th year should not be able to perform any spell on the Spell List above their year, unless they learned it in role-play. Another example is that students below 5th year shouldn't be able to produce a Patronus (yes, Harry could, but the comment was frequently made how unusual and talented that made him in this area). Adult characters don't have spell lists, but should not be overpowered (a judgment made by an Admin, if necessary). They shouldn't know every spell, or be able to perform magic more powerful than other characters. There may be special cases decided by Admins, but unless you get special permission from an Admin, don't assume your character can do these things.
To adopt a character you must have permission from an Admin or the original owner, and you are under obligation to change any aspects of the character that may not agree with our policies. A list of characters up for adoption can be found here here. The characters on this list may need to be revised and developed.
For your first two characters, you must make a human character. However, after you have been on the wiki at least a month (so you can create more characters), you may create characters of other magical races, as outlined in our Race Policy. They will still need to be sorted (through the Adult Sorting Forum), and approved by an Admin. Also, even if they are approved, if you are playing them overpowered, you will be warned against such activity. You may not have more than one of any race at any given time except for humans. Characters of any race other than human are considered exotic (see below).
Rare and Natural Abilities
The limit of "exotic characters" a user is allowed to have is FOUR, or 40% of their characters, whichever is lower. A user's first two characters cannot be "exotic".
At present, each user is limited to ONE (Registered) Animagus, and ONE Metamorphmagus, each a separate human character (Characters of other races may not have these abilities). Other characters may take Animagi Training, but cannot USE the shape-changing abilities unless the earlier character stops doing so, or dies, or is adopted by another user. Obviously, on a case by case basis, the Administration may chose to allow exceptions to these limitations. The matter of Unregistered Animagi will have to be addressed and discussed in details. Jiskran would welcome your comments and suggestions on this.
Characters at Hogwarts
Certain types of characters have to be approved by the Headmistress to attend Hogwarts. These include characters of any race other than Human (Half-Vampires, Werewolves, Part-Veela, Ghosts, etc). These characters have unique abilities and so they must be approved to be at Hogwarts, and the Headmistress made aware of their abilities before they're allowed at Hogwarts. Other races that are not allowed to learn wand magic (Vampires, Veela, Goblins, Elves, etc) are not allowed at Hogwarts due to an agreement between the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. While you can always ask, don't expect these types of characters to get approval to attend Hogwarts. It's recommended that you create and play these characters as adults. All requests need to go through the Headmistress of Hogwarts.
