From here, you can peer into the sky, showing you you are no longer beneath the confines of the castle (but certainly the grounds), or stare down into, well, the ''pit''. Of course it has a bottom, or at least we certainly hope. No one knows because no one can returned and therefore no one can say anyone has fallen down it. If you want to make your homework disappear, throwing it into the pit is a sure-fire way of doing it (but there's no guarantee your professor will recognize that as a valid excuse). The ledge you are standing on surrounds the pit and is mossy and wet, so be careful. The occasional rat might scurry on past you too.

Wikia DARP - Dungeon Pit-2

After the twists and turns of the dungeons begin to miraculously stop, you find the Dungeon Pit. From here, you can peer into the sky, showing you you are no longer beneath the confines of the castle (but certainly the grounds), or stare down into, well, the pit.
