Pure-blooded wizard Theodore Byun had met the muggle Hailey Kim when the two bumped into each other in London. She was on her way to work whilst he was heading to The Leaky Cauldron to access Diagon Alley. Whilst the interaction was brief, it stuck in Theodore's mind, enough so that he thought about it for a few days afterwards and tried to catch her again. He failed time and time again until one day, roughly a fortnight after their initial meeting, he managed to catch her attention on her way home from work. The two were able to engage in a larger conversation than just apologising to one another and, sure enough, the two found that they were interested in getting to know one another better.
To cut a long story short, the two were infatuated with one another and were married within two years. During this time, Theodore had exposed Hailey to the wizarding world and, though she couldn't practice it herself, Hailey was immersed. The two jumped at the opportunity to move in with Theodore's parents in their sizeable country home and did their best to marry Hailey into the magical life. It was the best of both worlds; the Byun's fascinated Hailey with their way of life and, in return, Hailey introduced some muggle appliances that the family hadn't heard of before (half because they were sheltered from muggle life but also due to the locale of their home).
The inevitable happened after a few years of marriage and Hailey soon fell pregnant with the couple's first and only child. The pregnancy was largely uneventful; Hailey developed a deeper niche for wizarding food, Theodore's parents took many a trip to muggle London to buy the cutest baby clothes, and Theodore himself worked on making the room allocated for the nursery looking as perfect as it could. Nine months passed and, to the delight of the Byun family, a baby boy was born. Promptly name Edward Sieon Byun, he was affectionately reffered to as Eddie and was set up for the perfect life.
However, with most successful and well-known witches and wizards, the Byun family (namely Theodore's parents) had made some enemies on their way to the top and after many relentless, yet unsuccessful, attacks, one of these enemies managed to deliver a fatal blow to the Byun's. In a late summer's night, members of some of the Byun's rival families had pulled off an elaborate break in that resulted in three things; the ransacking of a lot of the Byun family fortune, the destruction of the Byun stately home and the near extinction of that particular line. In an explosion caused by those committing the crimes, both of Theodore's parents and Theodore himself perished. Though gravely injured, Hailey had managed to escape with Eddie and did her best to make her way to her parents' house, some hours away. Through a miracle (Eddie likes to say it was his father and grandparents looking out for them), Hailey was able to make it to her parents' house and hand them Eddie before succumbing to the injuries she sustained.
Though Hailey's parents knew about Theodore's magic abilities and the status of his family within the wizarding world, they vowed to each other to raise Eddie as a muggle; they'd heard things about 'squibs' and assumed that, since he hadn't been killed, that must've been the most logical outcome. And raised as a muggle he was. Eddie attended a regular muggle primary school, made muggle best friends and was among the most ordinary of kids someone could meet.
His first magical experience when he was seven was rather mundane, boring. So much so that nobody really identified it, thus making the Hogwarts acceptance letter a much more surprising affair. In the living room of the family home, Eddie had caused a vase to fall and smash to the ground. Though the circumstances were suspicious; there was no window open to cause a wind, Eddie was too small to reach said vase, it was hard to knock it off without grabbing it and, in general, it seemed impossible for it to have fallen, both of Eddie's grandparents shrugged it off as just being forgetful and pinned it to their old age.
As mentioned, the lack of recognition of Eddie's first magical experience made his letter from Hogwarts all the more surprising. Whilst his grandparents had presumed that Eddie definitely was a 'squib,' making the letter a shock, Eddie himself was in awe of how a totally different world to the one he had grown up with existed and that he was a part of it. It was in the summer between the final year of muggle primary school and First Year at Hogwarts that Eddie was told of the notoriety of his paternal family whilst out shopping for wizarding goods. Naturally he was shocked but it made him all the more determined to do well in school.
Like he promised, Eddie largely excelled at Hogwarts. With a particular knack for healing and defensive spells, he was sorted into Hufflepuff and made a good name for himself. Though he never went for prefect or head boy, he felt that his good grades at O.W.L.S and N.E.W.T.S levels more than made up for it. Currently he's looking for employment and a companionship in life.
