Jack and Anna were the picture-perfect example of high school sweethearts, each coming from prestigious families in Cambridge. When they were working as surgeons at a local hospital, they could be found at dinner parties in their honor, often praised for their brilliance and ingenuity. After many years of living a happily married live, the two chose to further their relationship by having a small child of their very own. Unfortunately, it was discovered that Anna was unable to carry children of her very own. Instead of adopting, they chose to do surrogacy.
They went through countless different individuals, all willing to bear them a child to raise and finally found the perfect candidate; a young girl fresh out of university and studying to become a neurosurgeon. Her name was Hannah and she was a very sweet, old-school girl with proper morals and a good standing. Jack and Anna had developed a wonderful relationship with Hannah and aided her through the pregnancy, making her as comfortable as possible.
Nine months down the road, on May 12th, Hannah went into labor at three in the morning. She was rushed to the hospital, where instruction was given to contact the rightful parents; Jack and Anna Devereux. They arrived just in the lick of time to hold their beautiful baby girl, Gabriella who they raised to be a bright young witch. At the age of eight, she showed her abilities to perform magic; which was a huge concern for the couple as they weren't sure if Jack's DNA would be passed onto Gabriella because of the muggle host. Luckily for them, it did.
Gabriella was raised in muggle society and so she did not find their methods and tools unorthodox and often times than not, felt pity for their lack of magic. This was further enforced when her father went away on business and got into a car accident. The muggle doctors, unfortunately, did not have the magic to heal her father and he was classified as brain dead on the scene. Her mother made the tough decision to unplug her husband and her and Gabriella returned home.
Gabriella struggled greatly from the loss of her father but learned to keep him in her heart. Anna emerged herself completely into her work, often times missing any opportunities to spend time with her daughter before she was old enough to attend Hogwarts. Over the years, Hogwarts become a sort of haven to escape the silence of the Devereux manor and soon found her passion to become a neurosurgeon, like her surrogate mother had once went to school for.
