From a family whose blood was so pure they'd been included in the Sacred 28, the Selwyns had no intention of mingling with muggleborns or even half-bloods for that matter. Tainting the family blood was as terrible of a sin as murder. So when Jasper's older brother Julias married that mudblood Hakumo, the whole family was horrified. Julias let that filthy witch into their family on a basis of true love. So much for true love when it comes to adultery. Seeing his brother disgrace their family only further solidified Jasper's resolve to maintain the pure bloodline. So it was no surprise when he married the eldest daughter from the well known Tanaka family in Japan. The Tanakas were not only a family of purebloods, but also a blood supremacist family. It was a match made in intolerance heaven.
Ino and Jasper weren't in love by any means, but they got along just fine. They had the same ideals and standards, and they were content with that. Their family pride and reputation was the most important thing to them so that's what their life was centered around. The couple had three children before Judas came along. He was born on July 31st and was the new pride and joy of his parents. After all, Jude was a boy which meant he could carry on the Selwyn name and bloodline. What parent wouldn't be stoked? He was raised much like his other siblings in wealth and glamour. Oh, and of course he was taught about blood supremacy as well.
Unlike his siblings, Jude was an outgoing child. He was chatty and decided everyone he saw deserved to hear what he had to say - regardless of blood status. He talked to purebloods, mudbloods, and half-bloods too. It was during one of these circumstances were Judas was playing around with a few kids at a play place that he discovered his first signs of magic. Unfortunately, it ended in tragedy. There was a fake fire pit in the indoor playground. The other kids thought it would be cool if the fire was real. Jude agreed and wanted to make it happen. They might even be able to steal some marshmallows to roast. It all happened so fast after that. A fire erupted in the building. Muggleborns and pureblood children alike all scattered and ran screaming. It was horrific. Judas was taken out before the building collapsed. Other children weren't so lucky.
Some parents had gotten caught inside. Others were desperately crying out for their kids from the outside. Help came quickly, wizards and witches doing what they could to put out the fire and move debris. But they weren't fast enough to save everyone. Eleven people died that day. Seven children. Four adults. And it was all Jude's fault. He was only five. Jasper and Ino acted quickly in hiding their son's involvement, but Judas would never forget what he'd done - what magic had done. The same day he found his magic, he swore to never use it again.
Jude learned to hate magic and everything associated with it. He hated magic. He hated the magic world. He hated schools for magic. He hated people who used magic. And worst of all - he hated pure-bloods. From a blood supremacist in the making, Jude did a full turn around to supporting muggles and a muggle way of living. Instead of weeding out the muggles, he encouraged it. He wished magic would just disappear. Given his new philosophies, Jude became more closed off and quiet. He was no longer the loud, outgoing kid who feared nothing and no one. Now he'd barely even talk to his family.
He outright refused to go to Mahoutokoro at seven, and he tried to resist Hogwarts at eleven. Unfortunately, his parents insisted. Jude didn't want magic or that dumb school. But he had no choice. He was carted off to the school and put in classes he didn't want to take. He did enough to pass - only the bare minimum. He wouldn't give magic any more effort than necessary. At this point, Jude just wants to graduate and move into the Muggle world - that's his main priority.
