Damon found a spot with adequate space but had a blank expression on his face when the Professor asked about fencing. What on earth is fencing? he thought to himself.

I, and others like me, struggle to formulate the sounds in the same way you do reflexively, honing them with the responses of others. So, for us, non-verbal spellcasting is, in fact. more precise than verbal, and we learn to shape 'the sounds in our heads' with great care. So, to begin with, I should like you to pair off. Then, I want you to think of a spell you learned in earlier years. Think through, without saying anything, the incantation. Then, turn to your partner, try to shape the syllables (without sound) in a minimalist way, with very little lip movement and no wand movement. Then repeat it, increasing the size of the lip movement, still soundless, until your partner guesses. Please begin."

This is your last year, and thus the final chance, within these walls, to explore this subject. Whilst we do have a number of new topics to cover, I hope and expect that you will ask about any earlier themes you feel less than certain of, since the N.E.W.T. can, and frequently does, touch significantly upon almost anything from the entire 'Defense' field. He had no clue what sort of answer Norman would be looking for, so he said the first thing that came to mind. "Spells and potions that are used with the intention of causing the victim to lose control of themselves, or bringing them serious and or fatal harm. Sort of like any spell we would use offensively, Relashio, the Toenail-growing Hex. We use those to inflict pain, minor though it might be. The exception with the Dark Arts being that Dark Magic tends to be incredibly powerful."
