Hello, I'm Professor Trinket and I'll be your History of Magic professor this year. I was a bit sick, so I missed the first couple of days, but I'm happy to be here now and I hope we'll have a great term!

Good, Louise. Four points to Hufflepuff. Now, what else do we know about Egbert the Egregious?

Heliel speaks out, hoping the professor will hear her, "Egbert was the only wizard, apart from Dumbledore, to have defeated the Master of the Elder Wand."

Good, five points to Slytherin! Now, after that, historians aren't sure who got the want from Egbert, but a century later it appeared in the hands of a dark wizard called Godelot. He was a cruel, unpleasant wizard, who spent so much time is his basement that others began to call him a recluse. What he was working on was the creation of the infamous Magick Moste Evile, a book that will not be found in our general Hogwarts library, and you'd be hard pressed to get your hands on, thank you very much.

Anyway, when Godelot was somewhere between fifty-four and sixty years old, his son locked him in his own cellar in order to steal the wand for himself. If you're not taking notes, you really should be, as we're all going to be making timelines of the Elder wand. Can anyone else state anyone to own the Elder wand?

"Barnabas Deverill, Loxias, and a few others owned the Elder Wand. Harry Potter being the most recent owner of it."

Correct, although I seem to recall myself asking for someone else to answer next, Ms. Arcanus. Okay, we've missed a few. Would anyone happen to know the name of the very first, original owner?

Good, both of you! Seven points to both Slytherin and Ravenclaw! If you don't know this, that's fine, but you should probably be taking notes. Now, hundreds and hundreds of years after it was first created, the chamber was opened twice in order to let out it's monster -the basalisk. Both times were in the twentieth century. Can anyone tell me how what a basalisk is and how it is created?

Good! Take six points for Ravenclaw! Now, what's so dangerous about a basilisk? *She asks a tad sarcastically.* Well, for one thing, their venom is highly lethal. And they're huge! But probably the most defining characteristic of a basilisk would be it's eyes. Some people, some muggles, in fact, say, "If looks could kill.' Well, a basilisk's will. Only, however, if you're looking directly into it's eyes. Any ways around this?

Hello class! I'm very sorry class is starting late this year, I had an awful bout of the flu, I'm afraid... *She shakes her head.* But anyway, on to business! This year we'll be learning lot of history having to do with inter-species communication, commerce, and policy. We'll learn all about the International Warlock Convientor of 1829, and maybe we'll even get an end-of-term trip to the very location it took place! Let's all make sure we're seated before we begin... *Professor Trinket waits for everyone to take a seat.*

Let's try not to make talking in my class a habit, shall we? I would expect better from third years. Now, today we'll be starting by going over some major goblin-wizard events. Can anyone tell me one of the multitude of reasons that, historically, there's been such animosity between goblin and wizard kind?

*She chuckles softly and raises her eyebrows slightly.* I believe you mean Albus Dumbledore, Miss Clarence? He was indeed a very influential wizard, one that I'm sure you've all learned a bit about. Can anyone else think of someone influential from, "World vs. Voldemort," round one?

Good afternoon, sixth years! If you are in this class that means that you've decided to continue on to the NEWT level of History of Magic. From here on I will warn you that studies will be more intense and independent, not to discourage you of course. We'll still have loads of fun, with projects and everything. *Professor Trinket pauses.* I'll just give everyone a chance to arrive and we'll start off!

 – She tried to hold her tongue, she really did, but this was one class she didn't have to memorise books to excel at. She loved History of Magic and didn't want it to go down the drain.  "Will we actually be learning about things besides wizarding wars with Voldemort and the ministry? It's all we ever seem to learn these days..."

*She raises her eyebrows and chuckles.* Yes, Ms. Bradbury, we /will/ in fact be learning about things besides the wizarding wars with Voldemort and the ministry. Part of being a good historian is realizing the importance of many historical events, regardless of some issues being eclipsed by the overwhelming publicity that others have received. And being a good historian is, of course, essential if you want to continue through NEWT level with me. *She pauses for a moment, then continues.* Now, I'm not too sure what's been covered by your previous professors in this subject, or how well you've kept up with the Wizengamot's General Learning Expectations, so try to bear with my lack of that knowledge for a little bit. Of course, we won't just be focusing on GLEs and NEWT prep, because unlike some, my view is that in accordance with getting good grades, we should also be /learning/ things well.

So, just to gauge where you're all at, I have a little worksheet for you all. It shouldn't take too long, and don't worry if you miss a couple of things, we're just getting back into the year, after all.

During this class, if you could just fill through this little worksheet so I can see where you're at, then I'll collect them at the end. *She passes out worksheets.* Now, I'm not sure how you've been taught History for the past years, but by the end of this year you'll all need to be able to do independent research, studies, and analysis on all sorts of things in order to be ready for your exams. So today I'm going to talk about a couple of Goblins today, and taking notes would be recommend. After, for homework, you can do supplemental research in order to write a good paper on the subject. Ready?
