 The deck is probably the best spot in the whole house. It has the perfect view of the patio and the lake that stretches behind it, so it makes for the ideal sunset/sunrise viewing spot. |

His parents were throwing a party-an official one filled with official people and Adam couldn't care less. However, they were paying him to periodically appear with food and drink. They could use magic but he supposed they were trying to make him feel useful. Right now, he was playing pool by himself in the corner, trying to waste away the time before he could crash. He didn't know where his siblings were-probably left already-and had no one else to talk too.

Kealia really didn't care for these kind of formal parties, but she was a sucker for her parents, and they'd essentially forced her to come. With no other option, Kealia had opted for mingling with the other attendees for about an hour before she retreated to a quieter scene, which is exactly what she did. It was moments after she exited that she realized the area was already occupied by another figure and she couldn't quite lounge on the seats. It takes her a moment to realize who it is in the darkness of the night, but when she does, she smiles. "Adam."

Adam half expected it to be his mum telling him to go back to his job but when he looked up he saw-"oh, hey, Kealia," he said with a grin, "I hope you've put your bag in a safe space this time. So I guess you've been roped into coming to this hell of a party, huh?" Yeah, Adam knew it was boring and didn't stop to think she might not share his opinion but oh well.

"I was. Not that I mind... just the way my parents flaunt me to other boys my age," Kealia sighs a little, shaking her head dejectedly as she begins walking towards Adam. She winds up leaning against the pool table, watching him make his moves against the colored balls.

He wasn't blind to the silent sentence that went 'other boys my age that are magical'. As in-anyone that wasn't him. Adam knew she hadn't meant it in that way but it's what he heard. Wasn't her fault, wasn't really her parents either, they were probably right. Adam couldn't offer much. Adam bent over and hit another ball, sending two of the coloured ones into the pockets. "The boys who are remotely close to our age think elves should be enslaved again and that the homeless had it coming," he said, rather bluntly, before grinning over at her, "trust me-they're all the same."

Kealia doesn't realize the implications of her words until too late, but when she does, she almost panics. Her parents think that way, of course they do, but Kealia has come to see Adam as her saving grace, magical abilities or not. "Hey, come on - you know you're my knight in shining armour. I don't - Merlin, I hate the fact that they just... flaunt me around. I don't want to be the submissive wife, a slave to my hypothetical children with elves taking care of my every need. It's all wrong and I just -" Kealia closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. But the only thing she can see is Daphne and how she treated her. Her eyes snap open. She frowns. "I wish I could do something to just... tell them to get absolutely fucked, but I can't. They're my family."

"Ha, you flatter me. Don't worry, I'm just overcompensating when I swoop in to save your ass," Adam said with a shrug, waving off her attempts to apologise. He straightened up and began to reorganise the balls. "Know how to play?" He asked, looking over to her, before shrugging. "If it's anything, you only have a year or so until you can tell them to get fucked. Family only excuses so much."

"No, not really. Willing to learn, though?" she suggests, as she pushes herself away from the table to really appreciate what he's doing. "I don't know if I'd tell them to get fucked. They're my family regardless. Difficult, but... family. You wouldn't do that to yours... would you?" There's some reluctance in her voice, though, like she's really tempted but something is holding her back.

Kealia takes the stick with an appreciative nod, though she's still giggling from his first remark. "Hop off it. Your siblings adore you, that much is obvious," Kealia states matter-of-factly, shaking her head at him. Then, she rolls her eyes. "Wow, as if I didn't know that." She might as well not have, because she's holding the stick by the wrong end without even realizing it's the wrong end.

"I have to many siblings for that to be true, that's only true for at least three. Three and a half on a good day," Adam responded, his voice still light and joking. Then he twisted around so he was behind her, "here," he said, sliding his arms around to help her with her posture and grip, "let me help."

It doesn't occur to her even in this position that Adam might be suitable enough for her. No, that's a lie. It occurs to her. The temptation is undeniable. She's been so confused lately, so lost, that maybe this - Adam - is all she needs to sort her out. She wants to make a move, but she doesn't know how, so instead, she melts into his arms, relaxing a lot more than she had been just some moments ago. "Thanks," she murmurs, her cheeks turning a soft pink. "How long have you known how to play?"

"Since I was eleven," Adam responded as his hands pressed over hers to try and put them in the right position to hit the ball. "I had to do something with my time when we accepted I wasn't going to Ilvermorny. So I played pool. It had wooden sticks so, you know, very similar activity to magic. I like to think I'm alright at it. Do you know the basic rules?"

Kealia hums. That makes a lot of sense, but she'd have never made the connection on her own. "Hit the white ball against the other balls and pray they go in?" she suggests, with a small laugh. "Not too far from how it is, isn't it?"

Adam gave a small chuckle. "No, that's pretty close. Usually, in a normal game, one player goes for the coloured ones, the other goes for the stripes. You start at the lowest one then make your way up to the eight. There is some order to this. You need to make sure you keep your fingers on the table. The forward hard, which the cue rests upon, is really what does all the work. It figures out the angle and direction, the other one just determines the force. Obviously."
