Jacob is fairly tall for his age. He has brown hair that's sometimes a little scruffy, but he thinks it gives him a sort of charm about him. He's never been told differently, but if he was he'd probably cut it. He has light brown eyes, and a handsome smile. He dresses fairly casually most of the time.

Jacob Lawson was born into an all-American family in Jamestown, North Dakota. His parents were small-town high school sweethearts who, thanks to nest eggs, made a wealthy living for themselves and their two children. Jacob is the oldest; he has a younger sister, Emily. Growing up, Jacob was always pushed into your typically masculine activities. His father coached all the teams that his parents entered him into, and Jacob did fairly well. It's too bad his magic tended to get in the way. From the time he was six, any time his emotions got a little crazy, it always seemed to go wrong for him in sports. The football would overinflate and explode. The baseball bat would go flying into the air after he released it. The basketball would go from orange to purple.
Sometime around his eleventh birthday, some members from MACUSA showed up and explained that these unexplainable happenings were magic, because he was magic. While Jacob was delighted to have an explanation, Jacob saw the wind blown out of his parents, in particular his father's, sails. Jacob tried to ignore it for the most part. Magic school sounded like a lot of fun. And maybe there would be a new, magical sport for him to excel at, to make Dad proud. He was kind of bummed that he couldn't take Emily with him, but for the most part, this seemed like a really unique opportunity, and he was excited to go for it. Jacob was chosen by Thunderbird, and he happily went for it. Jacob has excelled in his first five years of school (now starting his sixth). He made friends easily, he ended up joining Quidditch and played Keeper. He did well, academically, too. But that was never enough, it seemed, for his father. In fact, his father has made it perfectly clear that once this magic school is over, Jacob is to return to the life of the No-Maj's (or "normal people" as his father puts it). He'll go to college, and play on college teams. But Jacob's not entirely sure that's the path he wants to take. These magic people... they're his people. When he found out the school would be heading across the ocean for the Triwizard Tournament, Jacob knew he had to take the chance. If he could win eternal glory... surely his father will drop this whole college thing, and he can make his own path.... right? |

Jacob has been told his whole life that his athletic prowess means he's special, and to some degree, Jacob believes that. But he buys into it more in his No-Maj life, than his magical life to be completely honest. There's still hints of that sense of "I'm good at sports" entitlement there, though. However, he definitely had to humble himself when he started at a magical school as a No-Maj. Clearly he didn't know anything about this world, and he would need to be taught. So a little humility is something he's gained over the course of his schooling.
Jacob will always stand up for the little guy, frequently standing up to someone who's being a bully. He tries not to make fights physical, but it's hard not to. He was taught that women are supposed to be protected, but he's met enough girls over the course of his life that have taught him that they can hold their own. It's something he actively works to get over. He's a hopeless romantic at heart, and any girl that captures his affections will be the most spoiled girl there is, but he's been entirely unlucky in love. He knows his parents want him to find a No-Maj girl to settle down with, but he's not sure that's the best path for him to take. Maybe he'll find a girl at Hogwarts to take home to introduce.
