Javier is friendly and sociable. He prefers to spend time speaking, so that's what he does normally. In his free time, he's a beach bum and loves surfing and spending time with strangers on a beach. While he doesn't have many close friends, he's the kind of guy who can make a connection with someone with one conversation, and leave an impression because he's so affable. One of his other favorite pastimes is debating, normally because it leads to intriguing conversation. Most people hate it, however, so he really only ends up arguing with people who are already predisposed to argue. Those are his favorite kinds of people to meet, because he enjoys arguing. Sometimes, he won't even argue because he believes in what he's saying. He'll just do it for the sake of arguing. Javier is a good student. He chats with his professors, he turns in his assignments on time, and he takes notes for the kids out of class. Teachers are probably the only people he wouldn't argue with, just because he needs the good grades. He's not sure what he wants to do yet, but he hopes it makes him a lot of money so he can live comfortably and do what he wants once he has enough money, like his dad. He hopes that he never stops meeting new people. Interestingly, he's not opposed to being alone, but it's probably because he normally isn't alone. He has a hard time maintaining friends because he isn't attentive to details within his friendships, and sometimes that means he forgets his friends. history
Javier was born on Tortola to a muggle mother and a wizard father. His father, Richard Taylor, retired in the British Virgin Isles once he figured out that you could make quite a sum of money converting wizarding money into american muggle money, and that same money could go quite far on the generally poor Rich Mans Paradise of the virgin isles. Javier's mother, Rosa Dominguez, was a Dominican woman who studied hospitality and moved to Tortola to get away from problems within her family and the insecurity of where she lived. Javier's mother knew it likely wouldn't be a good idea to get involved with a man like Taylor, but there's something appealing about a rich man appealing to a hotel concierge. The affair wasn't anything serious, but it brought her more income than usual. That is, until she learned she was pregnant with his child. Taylor protested the birth of the child, but it wasn't up to him to decide, and so he was born. Taylor distanced himself for the better part of Javier's childhood, but still sent out child support. Little Javier met all kinds of people given Tortola's state of attraction. He easily became friends with the people at the hotel his mother worked in, being the cute little guy who liked to brighten people's days with smiles and greetings that are specifically endearing from kids. Most of his friends ended up being older than he was because he would spend most of his time at the hotel. Generally, things were happy in his life, up until he accidentally got his mom fired. He was about seven at the time, and he had had too much sugar. She was doing her best to pull a nightshift, and there was no way she was going to leave her kid at home alone, and he wouldn't even let her leave him behind. It wasn't the first time Rosa had brought him on a nightshift, but it was the last. Javier was too loud and couldn't calm down. A guest tried to tell Javier and Rosa off, the former for his behavior and the latter for her parenting skills. Javier, getting impatient with the rant, told the man to shut up. That's when the man stopped talking, although not of his own will. The guest's mouth moved, but nothing came out. Rosa, horrified, could read that he seemed to mouth something about speaking to her manager. Naturally, the next, she was out of a job. Rosa was terrified of what Javier was becoming. Other odd occurrences like that started happening, with no explanation. She wrote to his father, begging for help. Of course, Taylor knew what it was, but didn't end up doing anything until Rosa dropped Javier off in front his door under the pretense of meeting his father, and then never picking him up again. Taylor started becoming a father for once in his life while he searched for Rosa, inevitably teaching Javier of the meaning of his bloodline so he would stop freaking out about where his mom was and causing magical mayhem in his luxury apartment. By the time he could reach Rosa, he grew attached to the little rascal. Taylor ended up taking care of Javier about 80% of the time while Rosa tried to work her way up the ladder to provide for a better life for her and Javier. Once she reached management level, they went down to about a 50/50 split. When Javier turned 11, he got his letter for hogwarts. As a british citizen, it was his right to attend the prestigious wizarding school. It was far away from home, but his father supported him and promised him that he had been there too, and that it was a great school. His mother wasn't so sure. Taylor had promised that this type of school could help him manage hos particular type of, uh, "behavioral issues", but she would miss him during the year. From the way Taylor put it too, it sounded expensive. Javier ended up going to Hogwarts after some back and forth. The school was totally different from what he was used to. The majority of the class seemed like the tourists he would meet, so at least he could fit into some of the cultural norms based on what he had learned from the tourists, but the weather was drastically different. It was hardly sunny and humid. The beach was a lake. The rain wasn't like the rain he knew. Overall, the curriculum was fun, but he preferred the environment of his island. Javier was used to wildlife so he enjoyed learning more about the magical, european variety. He started gaining an interest in debate, although the school didn't have such a club. During the year of the laws put in place by Fitzgerald, however, due to decent and the general feeling of being unsafe, Javier briefly homeschooled with Taylor in Tortola. He essentially studied a year away, but is now back for his sixth year. relationships
