Jocelyn is beautiful and she knows it. She is generally comfortable in her appearance and isn't ashamed of flaunting it, but does have her insecurities deep down. She is an average height at about 5'2 (1.57 meters) and has a smaller, more petite frame. Her body is well toned after years of quidditch and rugby and has an impressive amount of strength. She looks good in just about anything she wears and she knows it even if the occasional revealing garment makes her doubt herself (directly stemming from her strict upbringing). She has very dark brown hair to the point that most people insist it is actually black. Her eyes are also dark brown and are usually complimented by long lashes and a complex makeup look. Since her fathers had a lot of money, she used to dress very nicely even though most things she owned were still thrifted. After running away, she has a much smaller and less impressive wardrobe than she used to.

HISTORY
|
PERSONALITY
|
------------------------------
|
Àlvaro Jiménez graduated from Ilvermorny and started studying the relationships between muggles and wizards through the centuries especially in his home country of Mexico. He became a historian and was very dedicated to his work - often writing informative pieces for magazines and one day publishing his own book. As a gay man, he was especially interested in studying the gay and transgender rights movements across both worlds. In doing so, he connected with Tomas Joseph, a Creole man from Louisiana who played from Sweetwater All-Stars in Texas. The two were not romantic at first and were purely friends for many years. While Àlvaro was single and dedicated to his career, Tomas was in a long-term relationship with a woman for most of their friendship.
During their friendship, Àlvaro decided he wanted to start having children, deciding it was unlikely that he would settle down with a life partner as he was beginning to get on the older side. As a Half-blood himself, he felt more comfortable pursuing muggle technologies and went with a surrogate mother. On July 7th, 2028, he welcomed Jocelyn Yesenia Jiménez into the world with a Muggle mother. For the first year, the surrogate mother remained in her life as support for Àlvaro, but then she moved with her family to another Mexican state and they lost contact. It was around this time that Tomas and his long-term partner had separated and the two men tried to have a relationship with one another.
Tomas had always been an excellent parent to Jocelyn before that was ever a role truly assigned to him. Before they even wed, Àlvaro asked Tomas to legally adopt Jocelyn, which filled him with love and pride so of course he would go on to do so. When she was four years old, the two had a wedding with Tomas's family in attendance and all of their friends. By this time, Àlvaro had been estranged from most of his family as a result of his sexuality. His sisters, who were more progressive, had stayed by his side, but did not choose to attend and have never met Jocelyn.
Together the three lived in moderate harmony. They had a home in Mexico City, where Àlvaro had been living for almost two decades and a less permanent vacation home in San Antonio. The latter served its purpose more when Tomas was still playing quidditch, but he soon retired and became a quidditch commentator, which he still traveled for. Growing up, Jocelyn usually didn't have both of her fathers home at the same time unless it was late at night and she was asleep in bed since they both traveled extensively for their careers. There was never an instance where they were both present for one of her milestones and in many ways this gave her a complex around being seen.
For example, Tomas was the only one to witness her first sign of magic. As a Muggle-born, he was less equipped to handle the conversations that needed to occur afterwards and this was a strong point of contention between him and his husband for months to come. Jocelyn was seven years old and was playing with some dolls in her family's living room. Her father cooked in the other room, watching her from over the counter. Whispering to herself out of embarrassment over the conversation the two dolls were having, she was startled when her father accidentally dropped a pan in the nearby kitchen. As she screamed and tossed the dolls in the air, they vanished into thin air like she would have been hiding them had she gotten caught. Startled by her own screams, Tomas had peered over to see it happen just in time. Consoling her, he was able to summon the dolls back to the living room.
But Jocelyn wasn't always surrounded by the support she felt on that night. Her fathers, namely Àlvaro, were very strict. She spent most of her time inside with either one of her fathers or a babysitter because making friends was almost impossible. They were wary over her spending time with boys outside, but didn't trust her to spend nights over at girls' houses either. Given they did live in a Muggle neighborhood, but that was by choice and they were essentially punishing her. She was enrolled at primary school in Mexico and completed her early education there, but she still found it difficult to forge friendships with people when she wasn't allowed at birthdays or sleepovers. She often felt lonely and like an "other" there despite staff members at her school trying to get her to fit in.
Worst of it came when she was invited to attend Ilvermorny. A couple months before she received her notice of attendance, Àlvaro had told her that he had accepted a position as Ilvermorny's History of Magic professor. In his older age, already in his late forties, he was wanting a more stable position to grow old into. Jocelyn was destroyed, having been told by her father and confidant Tomas that Ilvermorny would provide her with the sense of freedom that she was wanting from Àlvaro. When her invitation arrived those few months later, she lacked enthusiasm and was shamed by her fathers for trying to be a buzzkill. Except she wasn't doing it on her purpose - they were.
When Jocelyn arrived at Ilvermorny on her first day, she was sorted into Wampus. Both the Wampus and Thunderbird totems had lit up for her, but as Tomas was a Thunderbird and she was quite upset with him at the moment, she naturally (albeit irrationally) chose Wampus. (For all intents and purposes, Àlvaro was a Horned-Serpent.) From that moment on, she spent most of her days avoiding her father and trying to make friends. However, she was immediately separated from most of her peers. Something about her had bothered most of them and like children sometimes do, they chose to isolate her and she continued to lack very many secure friendships especially in her own year group. By then, she had learned she could hear thoughts through what was perceived to be clairaudience, but it was extremely weak and only the actions of her peers during her first year (including the ridiculous amount of bullying she would endure from the for six years) would help strengthen her abilities.
Over these years, she would turn to the older students and found solace among their rowdy friend group. It was difficult for her to have friends, so having the ones she did served her at an extreme advantage. Many of her peers had no problems ratting her out to her father, who pushed and prodded for information and - much to Jocelyn's dismay and frustration - was never punished by the headmaster. These actions made her develop a complex around people poking and prodding her for information yet she learned from him and tends to do the same to the people in her life (although arguably with much more sympathy and caution than her father does). However, the older students were not fond of him and saw no purpose in catering to his asks, so they were much more loyal. As her sixth year at Ilvermorny was ending, one of her best friends and her current boyfriend were graduating. Some of her friends had already graduated in the years prior, but that was the last group of friends she had. Without her boyfriend, who she had an abusive off-and-on relationship with for a couple of years, she was anxious about her last year at Ilvermorny. She had grown to become reliant on him as he had burned most of the bridges she had formed outside of their friend group, who often sided with him as they had been his friends long before they were hers. As therapy, one of her friends, who had become a tattoo artist, gave her a tattoo underage. When she had returned home that night, she had told Tomas as she believed he wouldn't mind and he expressed an appreciation for her creativity and a love for the artwork that had been done.
Then he told Àlvaro. Her father was ashamed and had woken her up on the early summer morning to shouting, breaking down her door. Jocelyn was used to his overbearing attitude. He compulsively checked her phone after she had gotten it when she was fourteen, so she had to delete her text conversations with friends and save her plans with them in code on the notes app. The night before, she had forgotten to delete them considering she wasn't expecting to see her father the following day anyways. When he made her fork over her phone, he saw text messages between her and her boyfriend (of which some were unsavory and never something you want your father to be reading). She was grounded and the phone was magically destroyed, never to be seen again. If only her father had an issue with the abuse she suffered at the hands of her boyfriend and not just the idea of him since he only despised him for his poor behavior in school.
For a couple of days, Jocelyn sulked in her own anger, staring at the ceiling and listening to her fathers' thoughts sometimes when she could sense them outside her bedroom door. She read to herself, waiting for the moment when her fathers would come apologize. When it became apparent that her punishment was permanent, she made a plan to communicate with her boyfriend, who she could only assume was worried sick. Her plan became obsolete when an owl arrived from him, meaning all she had to do was send the letter she had wrote him days earlier on the owl's foot. A week of waiting and secret communication, her friends grabbed her in the night and she stayed at her boyfriend's house. When they thought about it more, they decided it was best that she wrote her fathers a letter in which she insisted she would not return.
After years of restraint and isolation, all she had wanted from her father was freedom. The small ounce of freedom she had taken for herself was ripped back from her and she knew there was no way to return to that home. There are some secrets of her past not fully transcribed, things she hasn't fully started to process, but these reasons were enough for her to never return. She doesn't know why they stopped seeing Álvaro's family or why they have such a horrible resentment of her "clairvoyant" abilities. When Tomas returned her letter, giving her a negative response, she sent back one insisting she still wasn't going to return and she didn't want to hear from them. They never wrote back pleading for her to do otherwise, so she took that as acceptance of the situation.
And there you have it. Her boyfriend's family paid for half of her new phone and she took care of the rest with what money she had earned working summer jobs over the years. Within days of her parents' letter, she became anxious about returning to Ilvermorny with the assumption that her father would continue to work there (he would not, no longer seeing a need to be there without the promise of keeping an eye on his daughter) and that is when one of her close friends proposed that she left for London and transferred to Hogwarts. With the help of her friends, she escaped to London and enrolled at Hogwarts for her final year of schooling. They stayed with her for only a week, setting her up at a shabby inn, before returning to North America. Once there, she broke up with her boyfriend for the thirteenth and final time.
It didn't take long for her savings to run out between the cost of her phone, the hotel, food, and new school supplies (although most of them were from second hand stores), so she turned to thievery while also babysitting Muggle children under an alias. It was shameful work, in her opinion, but she needed to do something to survive with the little support she had and it actually proved to be quite fun. Midway through her summer, she connected with the le Fey family and later would join the Black Parade once her school year had begun (upon which, she had been sorted into Slytherin). While training with them, her abilities were becoming more complex and things she had wrote off as impossibilities for herself became possible, revealing that she might just be a natural-born legilimens after all.

Most of Jocelyn's existence has been dictated by men specifically men with a knack of hurting her. And while she would never fear a man, she certainly doesn't trust them. In general, her trust issues are severe and she has largely shut herself off as a result of repeatedly being disappointed by others. A sad reality that she has refused to come to terms with is her inability to control others. To some limited capacity, she is a convincing manipulator and can indeed control others, but most times it's not the way she would prefer. What hurts the most is her ability to hear people's thoughts and knowing when they are lying to her like they so often are. She is constantly plagued by this ability and it actively aides the insecurities and trust issues she has developed. After hearing a boy think about how he's "totally going to pipe" while he's complimenting you and acting all lovey dovey, you stop having a lot of faith in others and more importantly yourself. This detachment has led to a lot of denial regarding her only feelings, pushing them down in favor of trying to enjoy the moment she is in and getting illegal tattoos at 3am in a friend's basement.
But Jocelyn is by no means a pathetic person or so she reassures herself each day she wakes up. Certainly an example of "faking it 'til you make it," she exudes confidence and has a flair to her actions that often leads people to think she's more of a b*tch than she actually is. Years of social isolation both at the hands of her father and her peers at Ilvermorny have led her to be very reserved in public, but she is known by many of her old friends to be the light of every party. And she is indeed a party animal. Most of the world will only ever see her as intimidating and cold, but the people she befriends will see the lively, flirtatious person that Jocelyn is at her core. Her uneasiness in the relationships she forms - a direct result of parental-related trauma - is a milestone much more easily conquered by women, but sometimes men can hit a soft spot. After all, if they're attractive, she will probably have the hots for them.
Beyond her hard exterior, which is one of a blunt and cocky teenager, she is very determined to forge her own path. With too much freedom dumped into her hands, it's too be expected that she is a little reckless, but a little danger never hurt nobody. Well, it has, but it certainly hasn't hurt her. She loves the rush of learning new skills especially when they pertain to her work such as stealing a watch straight off a rich white man's wrist. Her only desire is to have someone to run back to in order to excitedly boast about it. She's a show-off, but only in private among close friends because she enjoys the idea of being something unexpected. In her opinion, she comes off intimidating enough as is. One of her many weaknesses is getting too ahead of herself and not warning anyone about it in order for them to convince her not to.
A double-edged sword that Jocelyn loves to wield is her ability to captivate men. Her ex-boyfriend always told her that he didn't like the way she laughed because it was too soft and flirtatious, but it was just her natural laugh. Or maybe it's her goddess-like appearance. Either way, she has an aura that attracts and she likes it. As much as men have traumatized her and made her hate the world, she loves their attention. But she's not entirely foolish. Jocelyn enjoys casual dating, maybe a little kissing, and nothing more. She also likes stealing from them, but that's just another unhealthy coping mechanism she has to try to destroy the patriarchy - one sad boy at a time. Don't get us wrong: she does love the idea of a solid relationship and she's really a hopeless romantic (maybe she is a little foolish), but that's what leads to her being too trusting and that's what leads to her getting even more hurt. So, she's decided to try to have a break from boys.

TRIVIA
|
-----------------------------
|
ALVARO JIMENEZGrowing up, her father was insanely strict and overbearing. It was hard to play with the neighborhood boys or even spend the night at a friend's house. It offended her that he felt the need to start teaching at Ilvermorny the same exact year she had enrolled in school. Sure enough, he spent much of his time spying on her. He's a good teacher and he was more than qualified for the job, but she begged the headmaster to fire him. It never happened and that's what led to the end of their relationship. ISEULT LE FEYThey barely spoke the one time that they met, but she seems interesting. Iseult is the first person she's met who she could probably have a full nonverbal conversation with. Especially with her current training for the Parade, she's hoping she can forge a better relationship with her eventually. MORGAN LE FEYHe's the first person she met that was going to go to Hogwarts with her and he really didn't disappoint. There's certainly a budding friendship there even if she has this internal instinct to not trust him. She's trying and knows deep down that he will probably become one of her closer friends soon enough. NIKS CLARKEAlthough they've barely met, she really likes Niks and finds her to be absolutely gorgeous. She has a strong feeling there is something going on between her and Morgan, but she isn't sure what. She'll figure it out eventually, but until then, she's looking forward to seeing her around. SAXON GREENEReally she should have known better with a pretentious ass name like Saxon, but she didn't. Jocelyn dated him off and on for two years. He's a year older than her and certainly used it to his advantage when it came to keeping her in the relationship. They never had sex because he was constantly cheating and she didn't want to give him that until he could prove himself, but he never could and he just kept cheating. At times, he was physically violent with her, but his family became so crucial to her support system that she couldn't leave him until she was on the other side of the Atlantic. TOMAS JIMENEZShe was always much closer with this father. He was more relaxed in his parenting and was often the one to convince the other to loosen up. However, he wasn't able to convince him out of getting a teaching position at Ilvermorny. For years, he was her confidant and they were essentially friends, but they no longer talk and she doesn't trust him either anymore. SABRINA LE FEYShe's much nicer than the person she had built her up to be in her head. Although still a little fearful of her, she feels a natural push towards comfort around her. There's something about her aura. TRISTAN LE FEYHe's the reason why she's even involved in the Parade and she can't be more thankful for that, but that's it. He's something entirely else and she doesn't know how to describe the insanity he exudes, but she likes it. Or no, she doesn't. Being completely comfortable around a baby basilisk? Not attractive at all. His cockiness does not phase her.
