– Joshua Westenberg
Unlike his father Thaddeus, Josiah was raised in Portugal. Among Eliana's family, the renowned Sereníssima Casa de Bragança (Most Serene House of Braganza), Josiah's magic flourished early. From his childhood home it was discovered that he was a wizard by age eight.
He had a normal temper tantrum gone awry. He had no idea what he had done, or that he had done anything beside storm about his room, and think ill thoughts. When the Ministry showed up to hear the boy had been unconscious for at least forty-five minutes prior to their arrival Thaddeus and Eliana were informed Josiah had conjured bursts of energy in a wave that partially, and temporarily paralyzed anyone in a forty foot radius. The paralysis did not last more than forty-five seconds, and it only seemed to effect his parents, his brothers, sisters.
Thaddeus intimidates, and mentally abuses Josiah because he is jealous of his son. Josiah does not enjoy time with his father, or the presence of his father in his life at all. He wishes, and sometimes begs his mother to leave him. Eliana is not afraid of Thaddeaus, she loves him for his cruelty. It was his tendency to deliberately inflict pain, suffering, and humiliation on others that attracted her the most. Josiah is undeniably afraid of his father. He does his best to control the fear in his presence, and to cower when his father is not looking directly at him. Suppression has resulted in Josiah harboring a number of fears his family knows nothing about. His father's knowledge of said fears would only heighten them to a level of insanity.
As per Maicol's last wishes the Westenbergs attended the same small wizarding school their grandmother Antia's ancestors attended. Of Thaddeus and Eliana's five children Bethany and Josiah are the only children to have transferred out. Josiah is the only one of his siblings to attend Hogwarts.
Lines, lines, everywhere - not to be crossed, but criss-crossed, hmm. Where's the - ah ... no, my goodness there is a salmon of self-doubt loose in here, isn't there? Roe, roe, roe your boat, or perhaps hoe your furrow, given how ingrained this all is. Well, there must be - and there is. Words, concrete terms, the building blocks, the DNA of comprehension ... not sure about mutual though, are we? There is more of withstanding than understanding in much of this though, isn't there. I'd almost suspect Russian blood, but all I can see is the browline of the maternal grandfather - he who must not be named, though the reason isn't clear. Hmm. There's a mental attic's worth of clutter and so much is consciously buried, I'm almost loath to - ah, a key, well a small island of self at any rate. Not fortified - interesting - but so isolated, no trade routes, no discernible advancement, simply - survival. The potential is all around, and the winds could blow it anywards, but since my decision is called for -GRYFFINDOR!
– The Sorting Hat
Josiah was sorted into Gryffindor house while his brother's Joshua and Ethan have chosen to stay at Alvarães, hundred of miles away from him. For the first time in his life he is alone. He is finding it harder than he expected to exist without his brother Joshua, and his father's constant disapproval.
He has not ventured far from the tower unless it was to search through the books in the library, explore the Forbidden Forest or take long walks around the Black Lake. Even in his time secluding himself in Gryffindor Tower he has only met three of his housemates; James Thomas, Rheine Kögler, and Rowena Whitacre.
He transferred out of Hogwarts during his seventh year becoming a Beauxbâtons graduate like his sister.

“A place for everything and everything in its place.”
“Love is a symbol of eternity. It wipes out all sense of time, destroying all memory of a beginning and all fear of an end.”
He is having trouble mourning the loss of his younger sister Renata, deeply saddened that he will never see her face or wake up to her jumping on his bed, he sometimes forgets that she is gone
Josiah is kind and nurturing, he is responsible, and would never do anything if it earned him negative reinforcement of any kind. He is by no means perfect or an angel. Josiah is disrespectful, he gets overcome with emotion. He is fearful, and he tends not to be able to think as much of others when he has to face one of his fears. Which happens on a daily basis.
He does not want to be seen as or labeled a "coward", he tries exceedingly hard to not be afraid, and he constantly tries to think like his brothers would. In a worst case scenario he tries to think like his father.
Mumbling, Biting his lip
Logophilia - Abnormal affection for words
Pellagraphobia - Fear of pellagra (vitamin deficiency disease most frequently caused by a chronic lack of niacin)
Worst bad habit:
He is disorganized (but always knows where everything is)
Fear of Germs, crowds, bees and hornets, noise, etc
Josiah does not place much value in appearance. He is not oblivious to his own looks, and does in fact have a list of things about himself he wishes he could change ; His dry skin. His grandfather's nose. The fact that he looks like his father. Josiah has his mother's dark hair, which he likes most worn in a classic short cropped style. He has a warm skin complexion, and an oval shaped face. He has his father's pale blue eyes, and thick, structured eye brows. He the same pointed nose, and big toothy smile as his grandfather.
Relationship with them
Eliana staying married to Thaddeus is one of Josiah's biggest fears. He worries she will vanish like her mother. He has a theory about his father and his grandmother. When he shared it with his mother she laughed it off telling him what an imaginative and creative child he was.
Thaddeaus killed Josiah's grandmother Antia to drive Eliana into marrying him. Josiah does not know this to be true, but he knows from personal experience the unspeakable acts his father is willing to commit to prove his dominance over absolutely everyone.
Bethany was close to her younger brothers Josiah and Joshua before she graduated from Beauxbâtons, and left the family castle in Portugal. Josiah does not hear from his sister much since, but he is not worried. He believes if she needed her family they would know it.
Matthew "Matty" Westenberg is Bethany's son, an adorable boy. He is very much like his mother in personality, and something else the family will remain uncertain of as long as Matty's father remains as mysterious and out of the picture as he has been. Bethany has denied her self love, other than that of her son, since 'him'.
Joshua is amused by his brother Josiah. He thinks the fears Josiah developed are his way of making himself different from his twin. Truly, Josiah's fears stem from their father's mental abuse. He tries desperately to be more likes his brother emulating him at all times.
Ethan is a powerhouse - boiling over with energy, and fearlessness. Ethan and Josiah's relationship contains an explosive amount of animosity because Josiah tries (and fails miserably) to be more like him. The little brother he feels is a better twin to Joshua.
Renata and her combination of innocent sweetness made her a target, and made her brothers feel they needed to be overprotective of her. She felt things deeply, and had a way of making emotions seem contagious. Renata died at the age of seven.
Rowena witnessed Josiah trip over his own feet, and fall down the stairs. He has chosen not to take her kindness and the potential friendship perplexing "unofficially official" relationship he has with Rowena for granted, he is slowly but surely attempting to make his true feelings for her known.
Prudence le Syngur
Pru is an old friend of Josiah's whom he met on her first day of wizarding school, a transfer student from France. He might have made fun of her more than he ever made fun of anyone else, but he also confided in her. He was, and still is close to Pru. She has always been Josiah's best friend.
Vivien is Josiah's ex-girlfriend. They never had much in common aside from being the same age, and the same ethnic background. Josiah is ashamed of the fact that her age, and her nationality are all he knows about his four year relationship with Vivien.
His dog Querido was a gift for their one month anniversary.
