He would smile a bit, knowing he probably had looked pretty stupid. "Well then, I'll congradulate you on your new gain, and hope that whatever you end up doing, you'll continue to let those of us who care about you know your ok along the way."

"But of course. You will have to forgive, and forget. I was unaware you, or anyone else cared. Unless you were speaking in a general were are all brothers and sisters sense or the word." She smirked standing from the seat. "You still owe me dinner. And I am holding you to it. When you learn how to work an extra-cirricular activity like that into your busy schedule. Let me know."

"Serpens Cottage is usually an ideal place. Always has been to my recollection." Tanis left saying nothing else. None of that cordial no goodbye garbage to end a conversation. Not even a 'nice to see you again'. She just walked off confidentially to her next Ministry target.

He'd pull out a chair for her, and pull his from behind the desk. It didn't look like the office was used much to Renee, or that it often had visitors. "So...Ferlen said you were an Auror?"

She'd been directed down here as to where she could find Mr. Black. She was a bit nervous, but kept her features neutral. She knocked on the door, hoping he was here.

Karith Black 3

The massive man would open the door, and look down at her, not speaking.

Faith Willard

 – 19:27, February 10, 2016 (UTC)~

She was definitely intimidated... but she trusted the Minister. And she knew this is what she wanted. "Mr. Black?"

"I'm Faith Bagman... I'm with the Department of Mysteries-- the Brain Room, specifically. Minister Rookwood directed me to you... to help me with my research."

Karith Black 3
Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 19:31, February 10, 2016 (UTC)
He'd nod again, and Faith would notice a slight pressure in her head, against her mental defenses slight enough to almost be called a...caress. It was...small and prying, but if she hadn't had training she wouldn't have even noticed it. Even as it was she almost wouldn't realize it was there.

Faith Willard

 – 19:33, February 10, 2016 (UTC)

She figured that he was searching through to figure out what her research was more quickly, and she rifled through her memories of the initial idea... and her training up through now.

Karith Black 3
Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 19:37, February 10, 2016 (UTC)
She'd feel him use that as a starting point...and a way to get past her defenses, and in a few seconds examining her conversations with Draco on the topic, the mention of Teresa's research and her fate, then moving from there into Faith's drive, her passion for the project, and begin moving down that threat of thought back into more of her mind, getting an idea of her character and memories. It all happened so quickly, and again so subtly Faith wouldn't have noticed without her defensive training.

Faith Willard

 – 19:38, February 10, 2016 (UTC)~

She wasn't a huge fan of the fact that he was looking into her character and memories, and she attempted to employ some of her defenses to get him out of her head.

Faith Willard

Karith Black 3

Send Me an Owl! - 19:51, February 10, 2016 (UTC)
He'd nod, looking at her seriously. "It won't be easy...mentally or physically, and you need to have something...deeper, so why? Why do this to yourself? Why...take the risks? We both know it's not for helping the aurors."

Faith Willard

"The idea that... some people can throw off the curse with enough mental fortitude and others can't... doesn't sit well with me," she said slowly. "If I can figure out a way to block it... and I can come up with a way to... duplicate the defense... maybe we can render the curse useless."

She frowned. He hadn't listened to any of what she'd said. There was application-- developing a universal way to block the spell. His underestimation wouldn't deter her, though. She turned and headed out.

He'd open the door, frowning at her. "...you're late." He'd move aside and let her into the office. Everything inside was...sharp and hard. There were no cushions or soft surfaces in the office, and it was all very bare.

Faith Willard

 – 19:37, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~

She nodded and closed her eyes, entering her mindscape. She looked around to see what might need improving. She didn't want to overwork herself before the attack even started. She made herself invisible and waited for the attack to begin.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 19:42, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
A darkness would begin to overshadow Faith's mind, bringing with it a sense of....unease. The whole area would...dim...a bit as if the color had been drained and even the sun would seem to dim a bit in her mind. She would lose the sense she normally had of everything going on in the chamber.

Faith Willard

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable

 – 19:43, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~

The sense of control was similar from the last time she'd fought it off with Elle, but the darkness was odd. She looked around sharply. "I am in control." She said the words out loud, hoping that might make a difference.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 19:45, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
The words didn't seem to have any effect. Faith would mentally slap herself...in here words didn't matter...willpower did, and she hadn't really believed her claim could make a difference.

Faith Willard

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 19:47, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~

She gritted her teeth. Fine. Words didn't work? Then action would. She looked up at the sky. No more darkness... she willed the sun to come back.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 19:51, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
The sun would brighten a tad, then re-darken and Faith would feel the pressure of the spell pushing down on her. Concentration was...difficult, her mind feeling cloudy. Dark Clouds would begin to roll if from...where?...blocking the sun further and decreasing the light. The air of unease would sharpen into an aura of fear and helplessness.

Faith Willard

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable

 – 19:52, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~

She could hear Ash reminding her that emotions were powerful... maybe now was the time to test that. But would she also be letting Karith in as well? He didn't seem to be here... that was the part that spooked her the most. She didn't have anything concrete to fight against. She tried to work her way over to the emotions center.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 19:54, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
It was like moving through a swamp, or liquid. The air seemed to resist her movements and try to keep her where she was. It took her twice as long as she expected to get to the entrance and she felt the exertion.

Faith Willard

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable

 – 19:57, February 15, 2016 (UTC)

She placed her hand on the reader and let herself in, and tried to gauge what might be going on in here.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 19:59, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
Nothing was going on here...absolutely nothing. It was dead silent without the normal rustle and movement noises that occurred here. As she looked at the already caged emotions she'd note that nothing was moving. Everything was completely frozen as if time itself had stopped. If she reacted for those emotions she'd find...she didn't feel any of them.

Faith Willard

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 20:00, February 15, 2016 (UTC)

She frowned. None of this was right. She could focus on that later. For right now... she needed to see if there was a way to unleash them, or if they truly were that dormant. She crossed to anger and opened up the cage.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 20:03, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
It would remain frozen, unmoving. It looked like it had been jumping when things had happened, leaving it a couple inches off the floor. As Faith watched, she'd see gravity continue to work on it...but extremely slowly. Over the course of a minute, it would drop about an inch...very slowly descending towards the floor.

Faith Willard

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable

 – 20:04, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~

She glared at it. She willed it to work... to explode. Do whatever it needed to, to escape.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 20:06, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
It would start moving a bit faster, and Faith would begin to feel a strain on her reserves.

Faith Willard

 – 20:07, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~~

She dug deep into her stores of energy. The more she did it... the easier it would get. "COME ON!" she yelled at it. "MOVE!"

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 20:11, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
She would free the emotion from the...whatever it was in and her whole vision would go red. She could see Karith now, wand pointed at her from where he was sitting, his face mild, but concentrating. She would barely feel a slight pain from her arm and noticed from the corner of her vision a knife in one of her own hands slowly and deliberately drawing the edge of the sharp metal across the skin of her other arm. The cut was extremely shallow and didn't bleed much, and through the anger she could only slightly feel it, but she noticed two similar cuts above it.

Faith Willard

 – 20:13, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~~

Her eyes went wide. He was making her cut herself!? She tried to focus her energy.... focus the anger. Drop the knife. Drop the knife. Drop the knife.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 20:16, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
The knife in her hand would pause it's slow methodical movement, holding for a moment before quivering a bit in her hand. She felt the pressure on her mind. The slow, suggestive, reasonable and definitely masculine voice. "...there's no reason to stop. It doesn't even hurt..."

Faith Willard

 – 20:17, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~

She stayed focused. You're an idiot, and you're dangerous. Drop the knife. Drop. It. Now.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 20:20, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
She'd watch as her hand would continue to waver, then slowly, open her fingers and let the knife fall to the floor. As she did so she'd feel the oppressive mood on her lighten and feel her control returning. Her vision would snap back in her head where she was standing a few feet from her anger, the door to it's cage still opened wide. The normal animals sounds were back and...everything was moving as normal again.

Faith Willard

Game Master

She could feel the pain coming from her arm now...the throbbing each time her heart beat. While it wasn't physical it...was a mental distraction and took some focus to consider other things. She couldn't note anything else wrong though.

His eyes would harden a little. "You need training and motivation." He'd nod to her arm. "There's three cuts there...one for each hour you weren't in control. It'll give you motivation to work more quickly...if you can suggest something that will give you similar motivation I'd be happy to oblige." He'd give her a knowing look. Karith Black 3

Send Me an Owl! - 20:46, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
He'd nod. "First, you gave up control of your mind. I made my attack and spell obvious...when your mind started acting differently you should have immediately started trying to fight back. Once I had control...it will be much harder for you to regain it. Secondly, you opened up control of your emotions, which then gave me access. The imperious curse relies on keeping the victim helpless. In your mind I started with doubt and helplessness. If you believe those, you literally can't fight the spell because you don't have the willpower. Letting me into your emotions let me freeze those as well giving you even less options to free yourself. I'll admit I didn't anticipate you freeing your anger and using it...it was an effective last-ditch effort, but it never should have gone that far. Of course once you begin to regain your mind I let you have it back instead of continuing to fight...it would have been pointless to continue from there. Finally...you dithered. I know you're trying to research, but I would have expected this whole exercise to last less than two hours, even given the learning aspect. That would have left your arm with one cut rather than three." The wounds would now be sealed over with fresh pink skin, but still slightly noticeable.

Faith Willard

 – 20:48, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~

She nodded, taking that in. She knew there was a risk of letting him into the emotions center. "Why don't you appear in the chamber with me?" she asked. "Like with a Legilimency attack?"

Karith Black 3
Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 20:53, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
"...because the Imperious Curse is not like Legilimency. This is not a direct attack on your mind...those are focused. This is a much more subtle type of attack without targeting one specific point in your mind, which is why it's so hard to defend against...more like a net being cast over everything. Most of the defenses and traps you've set won't activate against an attack like this unless they're specifically set for it because they don't have anything solid to defend against or attack. The only type that would help are those that would make your mind more defensible. Unfortunately it's also much easier for a normal witch or wizard to do than Legilimency, and requires less training or willpower to be effective."

Faith Willard

 – 20:54, February 15, 2016 (UTC)~

She nodded and her mind started working, trying to figure out what she could do, then, to defend against that sort of attack. "Any other suggestions?"

Karith Black 3
Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 20:57, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
"With everything I said...the most important is to not let the spell gain full control. I attempted to make my presence and intent obvious...you should have seen signs. If you can begin fighting then and retain some control...the whole of the spell will be much easier and take much less willpower to overcome. I'd also consider rethinking some of your defenses, and maybe giving yourself multiple backdoors into various parts of your mind." He'd pause. "So...ready for another go?"

She nodded and slipped back into her antechamber, all of his suggestions running through her head. She wasn't expecting him to attack in the same way again... and kept her senses heightened for anything out of place.

The darkness would begin to overshadow Faith's mind again, bringing with it a sense of....unease. The whole area would...dim...a bit as if the color had been drained and even the sun would seem to dim a bit in her mind. She would begin to lose the sense she normally had of everything going on in the chamber.

She instantly fought against it. She willed the darkness away... the sun and warmth and comfort to come back.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 21:05, February 15, 2016 (UTC)
The darkness would continue to spread, though more slowly giving her time to think and act. The feeling of unease would also dwindle a bit, allowing her back some of the control of her mind and it's defenses. Some of her mental barriers would spring to life against the approaching threat, making her feel a bit more confident.

She looked over at her motor skills center, and at the animals she had defending it, and willed them to start protecting the tree. She looked at her decoy boulders. She figured an explosion might throw him off and tried to detonate one of them.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 13:29, February 16, 2016 (UTC)
The boulder would explode sending small pieces of rock flying about. The darkness would pause for a few moments, then begin it's slow crawl again. Finally the spreading darkness would complete as it had before, giving everything a paler look than normal. The defenders near the motor-skill entrance would begin chattering and moving about...they felt something and didn't know how to defend against it.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 15:42, February 16, 2016 (UTC)
The clouds would begin rolling in again, and Faith would realize the initial darkness and unease was the spell taking effect. The clouds...were filled with some sort of mental energy...power. They were the suggestions beginning to fog her brain and convince her to do...whatever it was the spell was having her do. Her willpower would slow them and cause them to almost...hesitate. She would feel her mind hesitate against the attack.

The clouds... She looked up at the clouds. Dark clouds... rain? What if she went straight through the water cycle? She looked up at the sky and willed it to start raining.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 15:49, February 16, 2016 (UTC)
It was the exact wrong thing to do. As the rain began falling, she'd feel the spell's grip tightening. The rain would cloud everything in her mind, making her visibility next to nothing, and the sense of fear and loss of control would instantly intensify until she could practically taste it. As she continued to look around, unable to see much, she'd catch flickers of...movement in the torrential rain. Something or...multiple somethings that were nearly invisible in the rain were moving about out there.

She had been expecting that. She looked up at the sky again and willed the rain to stop, and the clouds to part... the end of a storm.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 15:58, February 16, 2016 (UTC)
Her will would hit the storm and glance off. The spell was...powerful, more so now that it was in it's full rage. The rain was like standing under a waterfall, and she'd feel the water start pooling around her feet, mud start to stick her to the ground. She knew everything going on was a distraction from the storm, which was the real goal...but it was hard to focus with everything else. She'd catch more movement from the rain...something sinuous and snakelike with flashing eyes and scales would move just close enough for her to catch a glimpse before retreating out of her vision. As if there wasn't already enough going on, Faith would feel the stinging pain of a cut opening up on her arm. She'd look down and see a single bleeding cut, and feel the sting of the cold metal that had made it. The pain was another distraction, but she'd note she'd kept enough control at the beginning to still feel it happen where last time...she hadn't even known.

She felt cold fear go through her when she saw something snakelike. But it wasn't going to distract her. It wasn't. She glared at the sky again, willing the stupid storm to stop. Stop cutting yourself. That isn't you. Drop the knife.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 16:05, February 16, 2016 (UTC)
The rain would begin to slacken...but she'd still feel it rising up, now above her knees. Much more and she'd be swimming. The large water...snake...dragon? Faith wasn't sure what it was, but it seemed to be able to sense her fear and it would move around to her side, with her catching glimpses of it just out of the corner of her eyes. She'd see it slide down under the water and would lose track of where it was...

Good, if it's in the water, the squid can take care of it. She continued to focus on the rain, knowing the squid would do what it needed to. Drop the knife. Drop the knife.

She'd feel the water around her begin to move and roil...and would assume the two aquatic creates were engaged in some sort of combat she couldn't see...but hear enough she was starting to be buffeted by the waves it was causing. The rain would slow more and she'd be able to see the edges of the trees again...but the water was now waist deep.

The rain would finally stop coming down, but the ugly coulds above in the sky would continue to block out the sun and cast gloom over everything. She'd feel a second cut begin to etch it's way across the skin of her arm.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 16:22, February 16, 2016 (UTC)
She'd feel the knife lift from her skin half-way through the cut. The clouds would begin to disperse leaving the sun peaking though them, and some of the oppressive aura of fear would begin to dissipate. She'd feel something bump her leg under the water.

The clouds would finally dissipate completely, the sun coming back out, and the aura disappear. Faith would find herself shivering, partially from all the water soaking her, and partially from the exertion. She'd feel her control returning.

Faith would feel completely drained. Mentally she felt a massive headache coming on and stringing thoughts together was difficult. Physically she ached all over...probably from sitting still for so long on the hard surfaces. She'd have two flesh wounds on her arm, one not quite completed, that were dripping blood down her arm.
