Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 14:58, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

She knocked on the door, almost a bit nervous to start working with him again.

Send Me an Owl! - 15:03, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd open the door and give her an appraising look. "...you're late." He'd turn back and step back into the office, leaving the door open for her.

"I'm starting to believe with you there's never 'on time'."

He'd ignore the comment, waiting for her to come in...or not.

She walked in, and hesitated slightly. "So... what happened last time was absolutely not okay."

He'd shrug. "Your roommate and Benjamin made your complaints fairly clear."

She frowned. "You don't care though?"

Send Me an Owl! - 15:13, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd give her a half smile. "...but you threw off the curse. Otherwise when you woke up you'd still have been trying to put the knife to your skin."

 – 15:14, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

"No I didn't," she said. "I fell unconcious. Someone-- your brother, I guess?-- found me bleeding out."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 15:16, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
"Yes you did. Merely going unconscious won't lift that spell or it would be useless...someone would sleep and it's effects would be gone. Besides, I arranged for Ferlen to check on you, and you wouldn't have bled out or had any serious harm done."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 15:18, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

"Why did you have your brother check on me when you know he's supposed to stay entirely in the dark?" she glared at him. "How could I have unconciously thrown off that Curse? There's no way to do that without concentration." She was starting to feel lied to, and that bothered her quite a bit.

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 15:19, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd keep his tone neutral. "You didn't unconsciously throw it off...you must have done it before you went unconscious."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 15:21, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

"I'm quite sure I didn't," she said shortly. "I tried to fight it off out here for quite awhile before going back into my mindscape... everything in there was flooded, and it was downpouring. And I tried to drain it all... but it became too much, and essentially I drowned in the lake.... and went unconscious."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 15:23, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd shrug. "However, you must have at least fought and beaten the curse on you before you went unconscious. Ferlen didn't find any dark magic on you, and as I already explained if it had still been on you, when you woke up you'd have continued to do as the curse wanted."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 15:24, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

"I know I didn't have control when I went unconscious, so someone's lying and I know damn well it's not me."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 15:27, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd shrug. "Why would I lie? I've never lied to you...rather I've been brutally honest. My goal is your growth, and I see no value to be gained by misleading you. Think back...are you sure you didn't break the curse before you went unconscious? What's the last things you remember?"

Send Me an Owl! - 15:35, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd shrug. "So you were overcoming the curse then. The water should have continued to rise until you were crushed against the roof."

 – 15:37, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 15:38, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd shake his head. "...there's no way you could have done that without some sort of mental guardian, which you don't have. You must have overcome it before you went unconscious. That's the only explanation."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable

She gave him a scathing look. "I didn't."

He'd shrug. "Well then what do you suppose happened?"

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 15:42, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

She frowned. "Either your brother pulled me off of the Curse... or someone at the Hospital did, and they didn't tell me." She frowned. "Your brother may have lied to you. The Healer told me that she'd seen signs of Dark Magic used on me."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 15:44, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd frown. "Signs of are different. They would have mentioned a dark spell they had removed, and they didn't. If Ferlen had found dark magic on you he would have been in here instantly accusing me. If there's anything he can't stand it's dark magic."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 15:45, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

"Then someone's lying," she said. "And I know it isn't me."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 15:48, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd shrug. "You're starting to sound a bit paranoid Faith. Who do you think is lying to you...and for what purpose?"

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 15:49, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

"Then bring your brother in here and we'll figure it out," she snarled. "I wound up in the hospital because you left me alone, and I don't intend to have it happen again. I don't know what you told Benjamin and Elle, and if it differs from what you told me, but I don't intend on continuing to work with someone who's lying to my face."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 15:55, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd scowl at her. "I'm not lying to you Faith...but you working with me has always been your choice. I've told you that you were never in any danger...believe me or not as you like. I refuse to bring Ferlen into this...it's already been pointed out that would be a mistake. Feel free to talk to your roommate or Benjamin, but that's on you. As I said I have no reason to lie to you, and if you can't trust even what I say then this won't progress, and there's no point to continuing. So...you need to decide if you can trust me, or you need to leave. It's your choice."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 15:58, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

She gritted her teeth. "Show me what happened," she said. "I've done it once before with someone-- looked at memories from when I was unconscious. Use Legilimency and show me what happened."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 15:59, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd shrug, then nod, pulling out his wand. "...am I breaking in, or will you be lowering defenses first?"

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 16:02, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

"I'll lower my defenses," she said. She closed her eyes and entered her mindscape and shut off her triggers. She looked around. She'd done her best to clean up the mess... and while the lake was still a bit fuller than before, and the atmosphere still felt... damp... it had mostly returned to its original state.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 16:05, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
Faith would catch a glimpse of her reflection in the lake. It looked...odd. It would take Faith a moment to consider what seemed out of place about it...and then she'd realize she'd never had a reflection in the lake before.

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 16:06, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

It was a little unsettling to her, and she started wondering... why on earth such a reflection was there.... before deciding she could worry about it later. She waited for Karith.

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 16:10, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd appear in her mindscape giving her a look. He'd appear a lot more...menacing and dark that in real life, like shrouded with shadows. He'd gesture towards the lake. "Shall we head to your memories?"

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – {{{time}}}

She nodded and dove into the lake, heading down to the memory chamber. It was a much longer swim than normal, and when she arrived in the library, she opened the door, and passed through the entryway into the room filled with books.

Send Me an Owl! - 16:15, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
Faith would realize that Karith wasn't with her. Frowning, she'd head back and find him...frozen? He had one foot in the water, but wasn't moving. It was almost like he was completely paralyzed from a spell.

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 16:15, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
After a few moments, he'd disappear, then reappear a moment later a foot or so from the lake, glaring at Faith. "You seem to have forgotten a defense."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 16:19, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

She frowned slightly. "I.... I'm sorry. I...." she frowned. "I... don't remember that defense." She gestured to the squid. "Unless... the squid did something without me realizing it."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard

He'd frown, and step into the lake again.

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 16:22, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
Faith would watch, again catching her odd reflection in the water, and start as it winked at her, before reaching out a dark watery hand an inch or two above the water level and grabbed Karith's foot, paralyzing him again, this time before he made contact with the water. He'd freeze, and his momentum would continue splashing the foot into the small amount of water and into the sand below, leaving his paralyzed body looking like a statue frozen at an awkward angle.

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable

 – 16:24, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

Her eyes went wide, and she pulled Karith back onto land, and unfroze him, clearly terrified. "Karith, I'm so so sorry, I.... I have no idea what that thing is!"

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 16:25, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
Faith would find she couldn't seem to unfreeze Karith. After a few moments he'd disappear again, then reappear once more, a frown on his face.

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 16:27, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

She looked at Karith, panic on her face. "Karith... I'm so sorry. I don't... I've never seen that thing before. I don't know what it is!"

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 16:45, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd frown, looking at the dark water. "...I do. You said you were trying to create yourself help. Apparently...you did."

Game Master
Send Me an Owl! - 16:45, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
Faith would glance down at the water, again spotting the odd reflection, and noting while it was clearly her reflection it...wasn't quite her. She'd taken the oddities before to be the motion of the lake's waves, or odd reflections of the light, but now looking at it closely, she'd realize it wasn't reflecting her quite right. the reflection's hair was pulled back in an elegant knot and curled, while her own was down straight. The lines of her face were...smoothed out more somehow, making the reflection exceedingly beautiful, almost like Faith's own features had been taken and...perfected into a figure of otherworld beauty. She herself was wearing jeans and a green t-shirt, but the reflection was wearing an elegant gown of deep sapphire blue that almost blended into the water. The dress was long and elegant and expensive looking, showing the perfect amount of leg and cleavage, and fitting the reflection perfectly, enhancing the dark beauty. It was embroidered with dark blue gemstones and silver inlays that looked like they were spun from actual silver and a tiara would be set on it's perfect brow, silver with the same dark blue gemstones worked into it. She would be shocked silent for a moment...the reflection was definitely her, but it reminded her a lot more of...Jaina.

The dark blue of the dress and gemstones blending into the lake would make Faith take a closer look at the water. She would realize the water itself had also darkened. It had always been a lighter blue, and almost transparent, inviting one in to swim, float and relax. Now the water was dark and ominous, revealing nothing beneath it's surface. There had always been small waves, but now they were larger, like there was a storm whipping up, even though as Faith looked around she couldn't see a reason. The weather here was as it usually was...a nice summer day. Nothing else in her mindscape seemed out of place, but as she looked back at the lake...and her reflections...she'd wonder how she hadn't noticed. Now that she looked...the changes to the lake were obvious, yet she'd swum down through it just a few moments ago and not noticed any of the changes until Karith had tried to move through, and now...she couldn't understand how they hadn't been completely obvious.

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 16:50, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

"This.... thing took over?"

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 16:52, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd nod. "Apparently so. Remember when I said there was no way to fight a curse like that while unconscious without a guardian...well now you appear to have one."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable

She looked at it distastefully. "Not that I want one. I liked the Squid better."

The reflection would look back up at Faith distastefully.

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 17:00, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd frown. "I would...be cautious about what emotions you feed to this guardian. Your squid was a simple mental magical construct to protect the lake. This...is on a different level, and will probably protect your mind as it did against the curse rather than just the lake. It's like comparing a child's untrained magic to...a Hogwarts Headmaster's in the difference between your squid and your new guardian. It's much more...elegant and refined and...powerful."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 17:03, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

She was still a bit unnerved. But... the only way to possibly not be afraid of it would be to speak with it. But she could do that later. "Well.... I guess we have the answer then. It still doesn't quite explain though, why Ferlen didn't see any signs of Dark Magic, and the Healers did."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 17:06, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd shrug. "Ferlen's not a healer nor especially adept with dark magic...he fears it too much. Unless you were actively under a dark spell he wouldn't have been able to tell, and even then..." He'd shrug again, before glancing at Faith. "So...what now? It would seem your memories are...unavailable, though I would assume you don't need us to access them anymore."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 17:09, March 18, 2016 (UTC)~

She nodded. "I am curious to see what... the two of us," she gestured to the guardian, "Can do together against the Curse, though."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 17:12, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd nod slowly. "...it's a fair thought...but not while we know so little about it. We wouldn't want your mind to be in any actual danger." He'd glance around. "Seems little point in continuing our conversation here." With that, Karith would disappear.

Game Master

Faith would get the feeling that the reflection was...watching her. Studying her. Analyzing...like she often did.

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 17:19, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
He'd take another moment before looking back at her. "...your new guardian obviously. Apparently you've been progressing quite well." He'd give her a pointed look. "...can you now say that my methods don't produce results?"

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable
-To be great is to be misunderstood.

 – 17:20, March 18, 2016 (UTC)

"I still don't like that you left me alone," she said. "I might be progressing, but it's not deliberate progress on my part... it's haphazard at best. I don't mind if you don't help me-- but I don't want you to just up and leave."

Karith Black - Keeper of the Citadel - Minister's Bodyguard
Send Me an Owl! - 17:25, March 18, 2016 (UTC)
"Mind magic and mental defenses are a solo project. I can no more build sustainable defenses in your mind than you could in mine. You had to be tested, and you succeeded. You had to believe you were in danger to experience true fear, and determination and...potential. That's what your new guardian represents...your potential. What you are capable of when backed into a corner with only your own knowledge and skills...without anyone to help or to rescue you." He'd pause. "You've learned the lesson that was meant to teach...there shouldn't be a need to repeat the test."

Faith Willard Slytherin Alumna - Unspeakable

"As we continue to work in and on your mind, it will naturally develop more and become more powerful, and anytime you wield more power, there's more chance of misuse and damage. As an example, you now have a powerful new guardian. Improper use of it could cause it to damage you. That's how power works."

"She's linked to fear, desperation, determination and anger, most likely," she said. "I haven't linked her to anything differently yet because, well... given those characteristics, she's a bit of a pain to communicate with. Still... Her thoughts repeated, almost chantlike, in her mind as she focused on getting the clouds to dissipate, hoping Maggie would follow her lead.

The clouds wouldn't part...wouldn't even stop, but would slow just a bit delaying things slightly. They would begin to rain, water drizzling down from the clouds.

"Help me," she said gritting her teeth. Drop the knife. Drop the knife. Drop the knife.

The rain would continue to come down harder, the lake beginning to overflow a bit. The clouds would now completely block out the sun.

"Yes," she said in an exasperated voice-- splitting her focus between Maggie and the clouds was making it rain harder.

Faith would feel the change immediately from the instant she'd let Maggie help. The strain on her mind would lessen significantly, like she'd been in a full rushing river and was now just wading in a stream. She could think clearly, focus. She wasn't sure if it was because the pressure was gone, or if because Maggie had given her mind a power boost, but everything seemed significantly more simple and took a lot less effort to accomplish...even more than when her mind wasn't under attack.

She looked up at the clouds and yelled. "JUST THIS ONE TIME, MAGGIE!" she said before refocusing on the rain dissipating, and dropping the knife.

It was almost like the spell wasn't affecting her at all. The clouds would quickly dissipate and the sun shine back through. As they did Faith would spot Maggie floating in the sky between herself and the sun, her posture defensive, her hands raised up and outstretched against the sun as if she was attempting to push it away, even though she wasn't close to it. Her whole body would be tense, like she was straining against some strong force Faith couldn't see. Faith would quickly regain control and feel the knife being dropped from her skin, the metal hitting the floor. Once that happened Faith would feel the pressure of the spell fade, and Maggie would slowly relax, floating gently to the ground to collapse to a sitting position, sweat and strain visible on her face and on her clothes. She would be breathing heavily like she'd just run a marathon and Faith would even smell the same scent coming off Maggie that she did off herself after she'd had a hard workout.

She nodded to Maggie. "Good job." She paused. "In the future... you can help me defend attacks. But-- I dictate what's an attack and what's not."
