Some people might be intimidated by Lavinia Di Sena e Bonaparte. Her presence in the world has been nothing short of awe inspiring. But the public persona that is Lavinia, the talented director and writer, falls apart when you meet Lavinia. In person, Lavinia is a free spirited type of person, who refuses to involve herself with negative people. Never cynical, Lavinia is often bubbly and optimistic. The type to grab someone in the middle of the street and dance with only a street performer to provide the music. Lavinia prefers to collaborate with people rather than boss someone around. It's why she hesitated taking on a position of leadership with GMN and why she insisted on merging with Minerva. She doesn't want all the power. Merlin, she'd be happy with no power over other people. The idea they're pushing for her to become a leader at only twenty seven is an alien concept for her. She still feels like she's in her early twenties. She's worried she's too inexperienced and will run the place into the ground rather than saving it. Generous and caring, Lavinia isn't ambitious and can spend most of her conversation talking about the other person rather than herself.
One thing people might not realise about Lavinia is that she is a hopeless romantic. Romance had never really worked out for her. A handful of dates, some planned, some blind, but nothing ever more. Lavinia is never sure why it hasn't worked out with anyone. She suspects it's because of how much she adores her projects. A person with a single obsession (though she prefers to call it a vision), Lavinia has a difficult time multitasking with her focus and can't work on more than one project at a time. Still, Lavinia eats up tales of romance. Not just the romantic comedies, but the harsh tale of a doomed relationship, the exploration of long lost lovers. She loves all types of romance. She finds them interesting. Lavinia is the type of person to wake up at five in the morning to meditate in order to prepare for the day. Lavinia doesn't take her own emotions that seriously and often ends up focussing on anything but her own emotions.
It was always inevitable, really, that the Di Sena and Bonaparte families would arrange a marriage between two of their members. Both were of high acclaim in Europe, the Di Sena's being an influential family in Italy and the Bonaparte's comfortably having high status in both France and Italy. It really was a matter of when and who in regards to the marriage, many assuming it would be arranged. The story of Lazzaro-Jacquemin Bonaparte, the French born youngest child of one of the main branches of the Bonaparte family and Isabetta Di Sena, the most aspiring daughter of renowned architect Antonio Di Sena, was one of equal passion and influential gain.
Initially it was never the two of them arranged to get married. Instead, Lazzaro-Jacquemin's brother, Philippe, and Isabetta's sister, Rosa, were subtly forced in the same area in hopes that the two would get friendly enough that the matriarchs and patriarchs of both families could reasonably strike up the deal. Philippe and Rosa never took a liking to one another, only very demure greetings and boring small talk were exchanged between the two of them which led, ultimately, to two disappointed families. Playing matchmaker hadn't gone all to pot, however, as some in the families noticed that Lazzaro-Jacquemin and Isabetta were striking up much more personal and intrusive conversations with one another, a spark of chemistry dangerously close to igniting. Really, as soon as Isabetta spilt to Rosa that she found the youngest Bonaparte attractive, it sealed the deal for both families and the two were pushed for an arranged marriage.
Lazzaro-Jacquemin and Isabetta humoured their families with their marriage. They got married just months after meeting each other but treated one another as a partner rather than a spouse. To them they were still dating and, after what looked like three years of marriage to everyone else, had a smaller, more intimate ceremony to solidify the marriage for themselves. The two promptly moved to Great Britain afterwards, settling in a small village in the English countryside, in an attempt to create an informal barrier between them and their families. They were, after all, set with the task of creating a third family to form a trinity of power and, though in love with one another, both Lazzaro-Jacquemin and Isabetta took the task seriously. With much debate on which area of business they wanted to settle their roots in, the two decided that publishing could be largely beneficial for power; it'd give them a slight degree of influence over what was published in the UK and it set them apart from their political and architectural origins. Subsequently, Minerva Publishing House was created with the promise to 'Enrich the Minds of the Nation.'
Initially, Minerva Publishing House concerned themselves with the publication of recipe books, both for baking and potions. Aiming to please the ordinary witch or wizard, the couple wanted to have the support of the regular people before deciding to set their aspirations higher. Although it took both books a bit longer than the couple would've wanted to get off the ground, soon they become favourite bestsellers, allowing Lazzaro-Jacquemin and Isabetta to begin looking higher up the publication food chain. With the newfound popularity, the two set their sights on one of the larger newspapers that circulated throughout the nation.
However, before they could make some serious ground, the couple decided that settling down and starting a family would be beneficial. After all, if they were to make the Di Sena e Bonaparte's a rival family to their own ones, then children would be needed. Both Lazzaro-Jacquemin and Isabetta were fine with a smaller amount of children. With each of them having large numbers of siblings, both enjoyed the prospect of their kids being a more tight knit family. The couple had two daughters, Zuana and Lavinia, in quick succession and were content with their family. With having only two children, they decided preemptively that one could manage the books publication when they retired and the other could have the hopeful newspaper publishings.
The next two years were a wild time for the Di Sena e Bonaparte's for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the biggest and most celebrated thing was Minerva Publishing House gaining the publication and editing rights to The Daily Prophet. Having such a control over the magical British public was one that the family dreamed of having but knew it'd take them a long time to get there so, achieving it in such a small amount of time in comparison to the estimate, was a massive and celebrated deal. In the heat of celebrations, Isabetta fell pregnant after one particularly joyous night. Though two children had been enough for them, Lazzaro-Jacquemin and Isabetta welcomed the pregnancy.
Their joy, however, grew as they found out that one child became twins, and twins became triplets. Twins and Triplets were rarities in their families so for them to achieve such a thing alongside publishing rights was massive. To make the birth of their children even more special, they made sure that Isabetta was in Paris at the time to ensure French citizenship via double jus soli. After an excruciating nineteen hours of labour, Isabetta gave birth to their triplets; Cosima, Elias and Percival. After the birth of their triplets, both Lazzaro-Jacquemin and Isabetta decided that the notion of having a small family was abandoned and, instead, promised that each of their kids would be loved and involved - something they were sure neither could say definitely about them and their siblings.
Lavinia, like the triplets, went to a muggle school but constantly got herself into trouble. Not her fault all the magic tricks she could pull off made her the most popular person on the playground. Her first magical incident happened when she was five years old, incidentally in the classroom. She made paint instantly dry. Luckily, no one was in the room to witness it and it went unnoticed. The magic tricks were written off as her being very good at sleight of hand. But her parents picked up on it. Lavinia was always trying to be the star of the room. She was the kid who wrote play after play and bossed everyone into acting them out for her. More often than not-it was her younger siblings. What other use was there for younger siblings if you couldn't bully them into doing whatever you wanted? Lavinia always gravitated to the stage, to entertain everyone around her, and hated to be pushed into the corner. She was a loud person and it was always a struggle for teachers to quieten her down. It only got worse when she was sent to Hogwarts.
Sorted into Gryffindor, Lavinia was finally able to live her life without constantly watching her mouth or what she did for she was surrounded by other magical beings. Which meant she was even more disruptive in class. Lavinia was involved with community theatre and acting classes from her third year. She wasn't really sure if acting was something she wanted to do. Sure, she enjoyed it but she was never good enough to be one of the main characters, often sidelined into the sidekick. It wasn't until her sixth year that Lavinia found her true calling. She was asked, as a favour, to take over directing a short film when the director had to take a few weeks leave and Lavinia flourished. She liked being able to call the shots, not have to listen to everything someone told her to do. She liked being the boss. So eventually, Lavinia took a step back from being an actress. It took a little bit for her to do just because she was so use to the idea of wanting to be the one in the spotlight, the one the camera's were turned to, rather than the one being behind the camera in the shadows.
After graduating, Lavinia continued to develop her interest in the film industry, doing internships and taking low paying jobs to try and network. She'd argue that her surname didn't have an influence in starting her career but it did in a way. People were more likely to give her their focus and attention that wouldn't have been given if she had not been a Di Sena e Bonaparte. Outside of work, Lavinia was an avid film buff but she often avoided all the mainstream films. She preferred to watch arthouse and follow rather niche studios, even though she was interning in a more mainstream studio. Lavinia was suddenly glad that she was raised in France-it meant she knew French as her native tongue. If she didn't-she definitely would have forced herself to learn it just so she could watch all the French films without subtitles. Lavinia spent a lot of her early twenties living as a free spirited traveller. During the months where she wasn't working, Lavinia would go travel. Back then, Lavinia had no intention of becoming a leader of anything, no interest in going into the family business or taking up much responsibility. She wanted to create, to express herself. Work on something with meaning. Collaborate with other people. Experience the world. How many nights were spent dancing under the stars in Spain? In Barcelona? In Rome? Nothing could tie Lavinia down.
Until she was twenty two, everything seemed to be doing well for Lavinia. She had stable jobs, travelling the world, and everything was looking up for her. She'd written a few episodes here and there and worked on independently funded short films. She called herself a woman of the world. Until she wrote one of the worst performing movies of the decade. It wasn't necessarily bad. It was just...boring. As of that moment, she had been writing for LBC (it wasn't something that she liked but contract obligations). Instead of putting the blame onto the actors and directors (all men), they threw both the single actress and female writer under the bus and made sure the media blamed them. Lavinia was suddenly out of work and no one wanted to work with her. She was financially safe-her parents were always going to protect her. However, it wasn't until Alistair Fitzgerald died and LBC went under did Lavinia stop being blacklisted from the entertainment industry. This was a shock to her core-everything she worked for had slipped out of her grasp.
Afterwards, Lavinia withdrew from the entertainment industry for a little bit. She dabbled in reviewing films for the Daily Prophet, but it didn't really stick. She didn't like reviewing what other people created. Instead, she focused on charity. Lavinia wanted to do something with her time-so why not give back to the community? She went all over the world, attending charities, venturing into small magical communities to try and help those in need. It wasn't until she was twenty four did she make her return to the entertainment industry. She'd found herself hooked on an idea. She wrote it all in the space of three months. A film based on wizard in the 1960s trying to come to terms with his own humanity through his music. She sold it under a pseudonym and it ended up being a hit. The studio, GMN, ended up asking her to join them. She'd have complete creative freedom, whether it be as a writer or a director.
She didn't take the offer for another seven months but when she did-she ended up doing both. A director who wrote her own films. The new 'Quentin-Tarantino'-except her trademark wasn't violence but instead the exploration of the human psyche. Lavinia had no time for action, she often preferred a lone figure carrying the entire story-line on their shoulders. She was dancing a dangerous line between art house and mainstream. Lavinia didn't have a lot of time for the studio side of things but she did produce here and there. In 2044, the first sign of worry began. A few of the films that GMN produced flopped and by 2045, things looked dire and on the verge of the studio folding. In March 2045, the current CEO, Josiah King, decided to step down from the position-deciding he wasn't cut out for the job. Whilst this was all happening behind closed doors, the studio suddenly found itself scrambling for a new head. The position was eventually offered to Lavinia-of course, she didn't accept it straight away but a deal was eventually struck. If the studio became a third branch to Minerva Publishing House, she would act as the CEO and step away from the creative side of the business (though she still was able to write for projects here and there). Now, this is on the verge of becoming official and public.
