Drew probably shouldn't have come. Scoped out the place, security, what not, but she was curious, and who knew–maybe the person would put her out of her misery! She was dressed a lot more...lowkey than usual. A blazer-esque dress that came down to her mid knees. Did she have anything underneath it? No one was going to know that answer. It didn't matter. Maybe this was a prank. Probably was. She sat with her back to the wall. Like the person had promised, they were in a completely different area than the main diners and it was set for two people. Still, she sat there with her hand in her pocket, on her wand, refusing to be caught unawares if this really was a trap.

Tessa was running a few minutes late, yes, but not a bone in her body felt inclined to care or feel an inkling of remorse. Late appearances are something Julian should be well accustomed to — even more when it's a Friday. She'd been dealing with an ill Claire, which she supposes should have been the first red flag. Even with his new son, Julian would still go to any lengths for their own kids; especially if Claire is feeling even a little bit under the weather. But still, she'd left them safe asleep and with their babysitter, allowing her some free time to supposedly meet with her ex-hookup. Imagine her surprise when she's led by the hostess to a table already occupied by Drew Hamilton. Tessa truthfully isn't surprised, but she is miffed; she should've expected something like this from Julian, especially after all his questions and comments regarding the nature of her relationship (or lack thereof) with Drew. "What a fool I was to think my Friday night would be spoiled by the company of one Julian Ritchard," she remarks, amused. "Hamilton. Hello."

Drew, of course, saw Tessa the moment she entered her vicinity. A lookalike of Polina Romanova as well as being Tessa herself? There was no way Drew was going to be able to overlook her. At first, she thought that maybe Tessa was the one who had been texting her but she quickly overrode that idea. Tessa wouldn't hide, she'd ask her upfront. Somehow and for some reason, Drew is willing to hear her out. Maybe they were both–yes, they were both set up. Not for any work related reason either, Drew was willing to bet on that. Julian Ritchard didn't seem to be the type to be involved in anything work would be interested in. Drew stared at Tessa, trying to find some reason then why this happened in the first place. However-she'd ordered her drink at this point, too late to walk away. "So your Julian is the one to blame, remind me to send out an arrest warrant for him," Drew remarked, only half serious with that threat. Lying about this is illegal somehow. The cynical part of her, a very small voice, one that she usually avoided through work, whispered that Tessa's night might be ruined more with her rather than with Julian but that was neither here nor there. "Hello, Tessa."

Tessa knows what Julian is trying to do, and while she doesn't intend to engage with Drew in the sense Julian is aiming for, she's cordial enough to sit down, offering a wry smile. "And when you do, I'll be sure to personally advocate for the longest sentence possible." There's a temporary period of silence that follows her statement, largely as Tessa tries to really come up with something to say. Rarely ever does she run out of things to speak about, but in Drew's presence, it seems words just aren't finding her. It's painstakingly frustrating, but Tessa powers through it. After what feels like an eternity — but really isn't — she finally thinks to inquire: "What did he lure you in here with?" Must have been big, if it was enough to get Drew out here.

Drew didn't rush to say anything just because she had the sense there was meant to be something that followed it. However, it seemed that Drew was mistaken and they were lulled into silence. "Cat got your tongue?" She asked. If she had twenty galleons to bet (and she does), she'd have lost forty galleons just because she would never have thought she'd be having dinner with Tessa Bellerose-Hartt in a somewhat casual (if not tense) setting. She wasn't a fool to not come to the conclusion that this was intended to be a date of some sort. End conclusion? She wasn't sure. Friends or something more–that was up in the air. Drew didn't really like Julian, she decided. She didn't like strangers getting in her business so Julian was automatically in her bad books. At the question, Drew grimaced, her usually impassive face showing some type of emotion. "Through a case that he's very distantly related to through his...partner..." girlfriend? wife? Drew had no idea. "...apparently, I've become predictable in that if you wave a case in front of me, I will come running." And she even became head of law to stop being an auror. She thought herself smart once upon a time.

"Oh, you'd like that, wouldn't you, Drew?" Tessa shakes her head, smiling wryly at the woman sitting across her. "No, you didn't. Just trying to figure out how much bail I'd be paying if I don't decide to get him thrown into Azkaban myself." There's a brief pause, and she shrugs. She turns her head, lifting a hand to signal for the waiter to come when and if he sees her. As she waits, she addresses her companion. "But yes, you've become predictable. Thankfully, no need to worry for you or your team to worry about that anymore now that you're out of the field, right?"

Drew narrowed her eyes at the blonde's smile. She wasn't sure how to interpret it so instead, she shrugged, noting her usual order to the waiter before he even opened his mouth. "I can think of worse things to see," Drew said, "and it's nothing, I'm sure you can afford it easily." Drew wasn't naive, she knew Tessa could probably outbuy the ministry if she really wanted to. Most people might be uncomfortable with how quickly Tessa had ripped off the bandaid, most wanting that quick no, you're totally special and you're being too hard on yourself spiel. But Drew? Drew actually appreciated it. She knew she had, and it didn't do anyone any favours by sugar coating it for Drew's feelings. "Yes, out for good now. Just haven't gotten into the mindset that I am out," Drew responded, wanting that drink now. Magic-still hasn't replaced manual labour. What's the point? "It feels rather foreign knowing I don't have to go out in the field. Never thought I'd say that."
