Ataahua Rosier met Hemi Kama during a ministry of magic ball in New Zealand. Their fathers had been discussing business boring the pair to tears, their eyes met and it was clear from both their expressions they were thinking the same thing. They'd excused themselves from the conversation and headed in the direction of the doors that led to the gardens. They'd talked all night long and before they knew it the ball was over. Both thought it would be the last time they ever saw each other but it was far from that.
Hemi and Ataahua married a year later and enjoyed a number of blissful months as newlyweds. That was, until Ataahua found out she was pregnant. Nine months later came the birth of their son. Terrence Kama. It was only a year later that they gave birth to their second and final child a girl they named, Madeleine Kama.
The Kama family decided pretty soon after Madeleine's birth that moving to England would be what was best for the family. It allowed Hemi to get a better job and the kids to grow up in a larger wizarding community but it also meant Madeleine doesn't remember much about New Zealand.
Madeleine struggled in the muggle schools growing up. She didn't have the natural intelligence her brother did, everything she got she had to work hard for. It wasn't uncommon in her last years at muggle school for her to work herself to the bone often resulting in her falling asleep in classes because she'd been up until three practicing or passing out because she forgot to eat breakfast.
She was very lucky, since she was always absolutely exhausted, that her first sign of magic manifested at home rather than at school. She'd been nine, she'd fallen asleep at the kitchen table and Terrence had thought it would be funny to give her a fright to wake her up. He hadn't thought it so funny when she'd caused the bowls of cereal to explode sending milk all over him.
After that it was to no one's surprise that she followed Terrence a year after to Hogwarts. Magic came easy to Madeleine. She found she didn't struggle nearly as much with this as she did at muggle schooling but she was already so used to working as hard as she can that it's a tricky habit to break even if it is impacting too much on her life.
