History[]
Maeryn Elizabeth Prewett (nee Bulstrode) was born April 29th, 1985 into the family of Karl and Imogene Bulstrode. Yes, they belong to one of the "Sacred 28" families, and yes, they had the sort of money that was afforded to a family born into high society, but Karl and Imogene never thrust their daughter into that life style, and didn't keep to it much themselves. They were ordinary folk. Maeryn had two siblings-- an older brother and an older sister, making her the youngest of three, but her siblings never had a huge impact on her growing up years. They didn't even have any major impact in her first signs of magic, which occurred when she was six. She was coloring in her room (like most girls do) and she couldn't get something quite right. Frustrated with her shade of green, suddenly the image shifted and the green was what she had pictured all along. Her siblings were family, certainly, but Maeryn always felt she was destined for something beyond just the little Prewett household. Growing up just years behind the iconic lives of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger you could say attributed to the stars in Maeryn's eyes. If they could become superheros, why couldn't she?
She studied dutifully in school, earning excellent marks. She saw her siblings take their place in society, her brother a successful business man and her sister moving through the ranks of the Ministry. But Maeryn wanted more. She had talent in spades, but wasn't sure where to apply it. She opted to become an Auror. She remained in their ranks for a long time-- offered promotions many times, and always denying them. She didn't want to live her life behind a desk. She trained many Aurors, and went on many missions, doing her best to keep the nasties off the streets. Touted for her ability to train newbies, she was often sent out to help other Ministries train their law enforcements, and she spent time in France, America, Russia, and Australia (to name just a few places).
Maeryn married one time. John Prewett wasn't an Auror. But he spent time around the department, for reasons Maeryn wasn't certain of. She hadn't ever planned on getting married, but was taken in by his good looks, and charming nature. They were wed in June of 2011 As a couple they were good together, but Maeryn didn't let her marriage get the in the way of her career. Despite those intentions, Maeryn and John did conceive a child. Hattie Prewett was born in 2015. John and Maeryn tried to make it work as parents together, but ultimately Maeryn wasn't ever going to be a proper mother figure to her daughter. At least not in the way John wanted her to be. John and Maeryn maintained an unhappy marriage until Hattie went to Hogwarts, and split just after Christmas, in January of 2027, and agreed that Hattie would spend her summers with John. Maeryn maintained a connection with Hattie-- always sending birthday presents and Christmas presents, and occasional trinkets from her travels. But aside from an occasional weekend visit, Maeryn didn't see much of Hattie.
Maeryn was significantly injured on a mission she took in 2041. The Fitzgerald Administration was nearing the height of their terror. When a green Auror assumed she was going to defect on the mission, and not follow through, she was attacked and left with some lasting injuries that took her longer than she would have liked to recuperate from. Rather than continue working for such a horrid administration, she took a year of medical leave. When Hudson Radley-Abbot was elected, she considered rejoining the forces, but a year off had given her some time to consider things, and she opted instead to retire.
Retirement wasn't quite in the cards for her, just yet, though. Three years later she found herself a bit restless. Rejoining the force wasn't something she wanted, though. She knew she was an adept trainer of Aurors, and figured that teaching might be something she could work with. So she contacted Silas Chevalier about a position at Hogwarts.
Personality[]
Maeryn has an incredible work ethic. She dedicated herself to her career, and never looked back (even if it might have given her a better family life). As an Auror, she was fearless. She fully committed herself to every mission she went on, pursuing the goal until it was complete, and not returning until it was finished. Sometimes that meant she was on a mission for several months, but she refused to let a case go cold. Her grit and determination always won out, something she's proud of and tries to instill in her trainees. As a trainer, she's tough, but nfair. She doesn't coddle her trainees, but instead tries to give them the best idea of what it will be like on the field. Best to weed them out in the beginning, then lose someone on the field because they were under-prepared. Her methods, though at times questionable, still proved her to be a sought after trainer for new law enforcement.
In her personal life, she's a bit rough around the edges. She didn't get married because she wooed her husband, but rather because he charmed her. While she wouldn't go back and change anything, she's fully aware that the marriage likely dissolved because of her. John was probably too sweet for her, and while she's sure he's an excellent father he was always right-- she wasn't a good mother. She did what she could to make sure Hattie knew she was still there. She's not forthcoming about personal details, but she'll happily share details about the missions and such she's been on, as she sees that as a teaching opportunity.
Appearence[]
Maeryn tends to keep her look slightly gender neutral, but with a touch of femininity. If she isn't dressed in wizards robes, she prefers pants suits to dresses but will wear a feminine scarf along with it. Her blond hair is cut short (something she's done since she was an Auror, as she found it more practical) but styled differently to suit her mood. She has sharp, penetrating green eyes and fair skin. Her tight lips do have the ability to smile, but her approval comes more in a sharp nod than something warmer. Her face claim is Tilda Swinton.
