She'd come in later the next afternoon. She'd eaten and showered and even managed to get a short nap. She'd taken the time to dress in something comfortable and put on makeup and felt...much more like herself. She'd come in and look around wondering how much longer everything would take.

She'd run tests for the better part of an hour, and given Eric (and Melinda) another hour's rest before bringing in her sister. She had several images of his bones up, as well as brain scans up when Melinda walked in. She gave her sister a grave smile. "I wish I could say I've seen worse... but I'd be hard-pressed to think of a case that was worse than his."
She'd move over to Eric and subconsciously slip her hand into his looking at the scans and xrays on the screens. She'd wince at all the microfractures and partially healed broken bones.

Eric was still unconscious, but she saw how much her sister still cared for him. "These are all the 'before' shots, as it were," she said. She pointed to a few places. "You can probably tell that these bones weren't wholly healed. They also weren't going to heal properly, either. So in some places I actually just re-broke the bone so I could set it right and heal it properly with magic." She flicked her wand and the images shifted, showing several bones that were now right again. "Some bones had completely shattered. Those were trickier. I've got several potions going in through IV, and Skele-gro is one of them." She flicked her wand again, before turning to address Melinda. "He had a lot of blood loss-- so I've got Blood-Replenishing potions going. Obviously he's starving. So we've got fluids going for that, too." She paused, letting Melinda take in all of that before moving to brain scans. She flicked her wand. "This is what a normal brain scan should look like." She pulled up an image next to it with her wand. "This... is Eric's." The scan showed very little activity near the temporal lobes. "This is the most telling of the scans. Fortunately I didn't see any blood in his brain where there shouldn't be. So... physically, his brain is fine. But mentally..." She let out a slow breath. "His temporal lobes aren't showing much activity," she explained. "Which happens... when there's been severe trauma."
She'd nod slowly looking at everything. She'd assumed some bones would need to be re-broken to heal properly...she'd had to do something similar for a jackalope she'd come across but she didn't think she would have been able to do it for Eric. She'd nod. "I had an IV and fluids going for him at my place too and had given him one blood replenishing potion." She'd look closely at the brain scans her heart falling. "So...what do these mean for him...long term? I know even small brain injuries can cause amnesia or even change people's personalities...?"

She shook her head. "It might be too early to tell. And while this picture can tell us he endured trauma physically and mentally... it doesn't tell us what sort of trauma he may have endured magically. If they were using Legilimency against him... damage could even be worse." She tried to say all this gently, even if Melinda seemed to already at least be guessing at these conclusions. "Time will truly be the best way for him to heal. And therapy."
She'd nod slowly. There was every chance this effectively wasn't Eric anymore. He could never remember her...his personality could be completely different. Well...that didn't change her feelings or that she'd do everything she could to help him and then when they got to that point she'd...she didn't know. She wasn't sure she was selfless enough to just let him go but if that was what he wanted she wasn't sure she could deny him that either. Either way there was time before that and as Charity said a lot of healing and rehab. "Alright..." She'd take a deep breath and let it out...she had a lot to learn in a short amount of time if she was going to be doing his healing, physical therapy, mental healing and everything else he'd need. She already knew the basics of all the fields but she'd need to study up to learn everything she'd need to know to get him through this. She'd look at Charity. "You said I should be able to keep up with the healing and such that he'll need once you did the scans and things...what do I need to know?"

"It sounds like you already know to how to insert IVs, so that's excellent. Do you know how to change the bags out when they need changing?"
She'd nod. "Yes. I may not have any real experience healing but I did take the class they offered my last couple years at school and I've had to do some on animals so I at least know the basics."

She nodded. "Bags with the potions are labeled and ready to to in here," she said tapping a counter. She gestured to the screen hovering above Eric. "This has all his vital signs. It's set to trigger an alarm if something dips dangerously, and I'll come up."
She'd nod. "Ok." She'd pause. "I...want to talk to you about his long term recovery but...not right now. Maybe this evening after he's settled and the kids are in bed?"

She nodded. "Sure. Are you okay if I go check on the twins?"
She'd nod. "Of course." She'd give Charity a quick hug. "...and thank you so much." Once Charity left she'd sit down where Eric could see her when he woke up and not wanting to waste the time would have Jewel fetch her something from the library.

Roughly twenty minutes later, he stirred and slowly opened his eyes. He didn't speak as he scanned the room, taking in his new surroundings.
She'd close the book she'd been reading and mark her place before setting it aside and letting him have a minute to take in his surroundings and actually wake up. She felt very on edge and overwhelmed but she knew she couldn't express any of that or let him know...it would only cause more problems. Patience she reminded herself.

"You moved me," he said, almost like he was reminding himself. "Where again?"
She'd nod her head at the pictures still on the light board. "You had to be asleep for some of it. Basically...you were really messed up but you're better now." She'd pause. "Still weak and recovering but better than you were."

He nodded. "I... can tell. I don't feel as... broken." He shook his head. That sounded ridiculous, but he didn't have other words to really describe it.
She'd give him a little smile. "Good. Well you'll be here at least a few days to recover. Anything I can get you from the library or to help make you comfortable?"

Suspicion set in. "Library?" His parents had a library, too. More comfortable never meant anything good. Melinda would see his pulse start to rise.
She'd put both hands up in a defensive way and give a smile making her voice calm and quiet. "It's ok...nothing to be worried about. My sister and her family live in a big old castle. Her husband comes from an old pureblood family. They're both good people and have offered you protection here. It's got a lot more magical protection than my house." She'd pause. "You saw it when you came in...do you remember?"

His jaw twitched. "Which family?" He asked through practically clenched teeth. How stupid he'd been to blindly come here without checking, first.
She'd frown slightly. How had he not...well his head was pretty messed up. "It's a pretty big name in the wizarding world especially here in London...but I suppose it doesn't really matter what the family names are." She'd pause. "You're safe here Eric. I promise."

"So you say," he sneered.
I imagine a family like the Selwyn's would havd denounced the Princes, due to their association with Muggles.
A flash of anger would cross Melinda's face and her words would be a bit hot. "Eric, while your family may be scum, mine is not. They graciously allowed me to bring you here for protection, let us use their medical lab, treated your broken bones and badly healed wounds and I will not have you questioning their intentions or goodwill."

"Yes, yes I know. To make me comfortable before you throw me back in the dungeon and start beating on me again," he snarled.
She'd close her eyes for a moment and take a deep breath working on banishing her anger before letting it out and re-opening them. "Sorry I lost my temper. No...there's no dungeon in this place and you're not going to get hurt or beaten here."

He'd heard that before. He didn't want to incur too much wrath and pain... he'd forgotten what it felt like to not be in pain, and it was nice. So he let the subject drop, despite clearly still brooding.
She'd deflate a little her voice gentle. "I'm sorry." She'd pause. "I...have no way to convince you this isn't some elaborate trap but from what you've said and how you acted they really didn't heal you like this right...or give you food? I really am trying to help you and I since I have no way to prove anything to you I guess you'll just have to wait and see for yourself."

"They also never moved me." He pointed out. "They were very smart, pushing my mind and body to the brink of death, and then reeling back. How do I know what they would or wouldn't do if it came time to move me?"
She'd shrug. "You don't...but is it really so hard to try to give me a little trust? I mean the worst thing that happens is you're right back where you started. It's not like it would cost you anything."

He cast a sharp look in her direction, once again raising his pulse.
She'd frown and sit down beside him. "Eric...please. I'm trying to understand so I can help you. What did I say wrong?"

He had to keep reminding himself that this woman... Melinda, was helping him because in some past life they had loved each other. "...taunting me. The worst thing isn't winding up back where I started. It's not the worst by far." He looked at her for a long moment, his eyes reflecting deep pain, and a longing to trust... but also knowing trust could cost him everything. "I..." Words failed him. "What even is trust, y'know?"
She'd frown. "I...didn't mean to taunt you. I was trying to..." She'd shake her head. "Nevermind. I'll try to choose my words more carefully." She'd consider his question carefully. "I suppose that I'm hoping for is that you'll start considering that I actually am trying to help you and stop assuming everything I do is actually to hurt you or trying to mislead you. Even though you don't know me and have no evidence to go off maybe...give me the benefit of the doubt that I actually might be a decent person. Even someone that didn't know you at all that was a decent human would at least try to help you."

"You've clearly never been stolen away from everyone you love by your family in the middle of the night and tortured for the better part of two years," he said with a hollow laugh.
She'd hesitate. "You are but you're still hooked to all the monitors and the IV." She'd pause. "I can unhook all the monitors and IV for now if you'd like to get up and move around."

"It's just hard to know what's in the library here. I... don't even know what I'd have interest in reading."
She'd let out a little laugh. "Just about everything written down is in the library here." She'd nod down to the book she'd closed and marked. "I'm reading up on physical therapy."

She'd smile. "Healthy body, healthy mind. They're linked to one another so we're going to have to work on both." She'd pause. "My other sister is sort of a mind specialist. She lives in Norway so once you're stable and able to get around on your own I'm going to be going to visit her and get a crash course in healing your mind."

He raised an eyebrow. "So my rescue and recovery is a family affair, huh?"
She'd consider that. "No...not exactly. Your rescue and recovery is my affair but I'm relying on the help and support of my family to make it happen."

He nodded slowly. So she was taking full credit, regardless of the fact that she was relying on others. That sounded like a group effort to him. "So once I'm better... what's your plan for me?"
She'd shrug. "That's...really up to you. I'm going to help you get to a point where you can choose what you want to do with yourself and...then it will be up to you."
