every every everyday, the history I make While the Joseon Dynasty as we know it was founded in 1392 under Yi Seonggye, the magical Joseon Dynasty was formed a few years later by Seonggye's magical counterpart, Yi Hangye. Due to the chaos happening in the muggle world as a result of Yi Seonggye usurping the throne from King Woo after rebelling against an order to invade an area of China known to us as present-day Liaoning, Yi Hangye took the initiative to unite the magical Korean community as Seonggye did, crowned himself King. Alongside the muggle House of Yi, the magical House of Yi also grew, stretching throughout time and becoming the longest dynasty in Korean history. Although there are many things within both histories that mirror each other (like the transition into the Korean Empire), the magical House of Yi did not face the same end as its muggle counterpart. When Japan annexed the Korean Empire in 1910 and removed Emperor Sunjong from the throne, the magical House of Yi went into hiding to avoid a similar outcome, and for over sixty years, they waited, and waited. Emperor Sunjong's magical counterpart, Emperor Yujoong passed on the throne to his wife, Queen Moon Harin when he died, and when the magical House of Yi revealed themselves to still be intact after the Korean War, the South Korean magical government found a way to re-establish the House of Yi as a ceremonial institution. To this day, that is how the House of Yi functions, and over the years, the family has grown significantly since their re-appearance in 1954, and official reinstatement in 1961. After Queen Harin died, the throne passed onto her first born son, Yi Hajeong, and the line continued until Yi Shinjeong was crowned Emperor. Yi Hajeong passed the crown on to Yi Shinjeong in the early 1990s. Just a year after being crowned, Shinjeong married Jeon Mirae, and she became the Queen of South Korea. In 1995, Shinjeong had Yi Jeongdae, the next in line for the throne, and after him, four other kids: Jeongnam, Minjeong, Jeonghan, and Jeongmi. Since the House of Yi had been reinstated, it had become loose tradition to pass on the crown in the early twenties, so Shinjeong passed on his crown to Jeongdae in 2018, right after he married Kim Sihyeon. Jeongdae and Sihyeon married in 2017 after dating in their teenage years. The popular teen sweethearts had been the talk of South Korean media for years, and the public had a general adoration for them. When Jeongdae has crowned as Emperor Yi Jeongdae at twenty-four, there was a warm reception him as king. And for many years, they were happy. In 2020, they had their first son, Prince Yi Hyeonsik. But due to accident, the child died when he was only five. Jeongdae and Sihyeon were blessed with two more sons, Hyeontae and Seonhyeon, before they had their first, and only, girl, Yi Hyanghyeon. As a child, Hyanghyeon was loud. Presently she still is, but younger Hyanghyeon was a screaming menace compared to present Hyangyeon's commanding charisma. She thrived in her lively childhood home where entertainment is always around the corner. As soon as she learned how to walk and run, Hyanghyeon was all over the place. Sometimes she pesters the local scholars for the most niched history book they have, sometimes she's in the kitchens learning cooking techniques that are probably inappropriate for a 5-year-old kid. Mastering her metamorphmagus abilities made her even more elusive, hiding in plain sight with the servants while her tutors run around to try and look for her. Being a metamorphmagus with a surprisingly good grasp in her abilities meant that Hyanghyeon easily hid from the public eye whenever the need to be outside their home's walls arises. For all her attention-grabbing loudness, Hyanghyeon didn't appreciate being watched by thousands upon thousands of strangers even if they're her family's subjects. She isn't going anywhere near the throne so she doesn't see why they pretend as if she's important enough as the emperor or even the heir is. Despite that, she does hold a love for the people her family serve. Despite how erratic and random her location would be throughout the day, Hyanghyeon would always end up in her mother's lap asking for a story from either her or her dad. Having several other siblings to share their parents' love would be pretty difficult but Hyanghyeon was good at pinpointing the exact times when she could monopolise both her parents who she loved most in the world. Jeongdae and Sihyeon were just about the only people who could convince Hyanghyeon to settle down without getting bitten. So when her mother died when she was seven years old, Hyanghyeon was utterly devastated. The months following the Empress' passing would see even more destructive and erratic behaviour from the young princess. Hyanghyeon had become more sensitive and emotional and was banned from sessions in the throne room because she had her first magical incident there where she accidentally lit the vice premier's robes on fire after the latter made a comment that rubbed her wrong. She used her metamorphmagus abilities to sneak out of their home, finding it too filled with reminders of her mother for her to function properly. This tendency of hers to run away from home every so often would evolve into a habit in the next few years. Sure she'd be caught every time and be given a scolding but it doesn't stop her from sneaking out next time. Luck was on her side because literally everyone else was too busy with more important things to track her down and she'd only be caught once she was back home safe and sound. Hyanghyeon's outside escapades would eventually lead her to gain the loyalty of a murder of 6 crows, all of whom she decided to name after the main characters of her favourite foreign Muggle book series the Six of Crows. They were all smart enough to recognise her despite her transformations and made their home on the tree next to her room. Another companion she made while out and about was a girl named Joo Yi-Woo, who lived in the rural parts of town and who seemed to be able to do magic with how skilled she was at handicrafts. Under the guise of a runaway named Gu-Seul, Hyanghyeon developed a friendship with Yiwoo and eventually, she began to spend more time with the commoner girl learning all she could from her. Their friendship would grow over the years until Hyanghyeon was confident enough to tell Yiwoo her true identity. While it did take Yiwoo by surprise, the older girl still welcomed Hyanghyeon with open arms. Growing up Hyanghyeon never did show an ounce of interest with the dirtier aspects of politics, only appearing whenever she could "respectfully" yell at people for condoning disgusting stuff like systemic oppression. Hyanghyeon was so detached from her own family's affairs that she was only vaguely aware that Seonhyeon had been admitted to a foreign school and had been elevated to Crown Prince status sometime after. When she came of age, Hyanghyeon was admitted to Mahoutokoro. While she was there, she had to be at her best behaviour as a princess. Her behaviour had been monitored at all times and she was given a rigid timetable to follow. They had also taken precautions given Hyanghyeon's tendencies to run away at any opportunity she finds. That meant that she was pretty suffocated. Hyanghyeon hated it and not even Yiwoo could comfort her. Hyanghyeon's biggest stunt she would ever pull would come sometime after she turned 14. Yiwoo's family (consisting of Yiwoo and her aunt) were moving somewhere far from South Korea, somewhere in Scotland. Hyanghyeon begged to go with them, wishing for a reprieve from her royal life. Eventually, the Joos gave in but only after Hyanghyeon told her family. She did, only in the form of a letter left in her bedroom in the dead of night. They never told her to actually get her family's permission anyway. Metamorphmagus powers let her leave the country fairly undetected, and her papers were somewhat easy to forge considering her status. Now in a new country as Joo Gu-Seul, she's getting ready to attend Hogwarts and she could only hope that it isn't as suffocating as Mahoutokoro had been.

i am you, i see me in you It's a known fact within her family that Hyanghyeon is a storm. Mesmerising from afar but incredibly chaotic up close. Hyanghyeon is like the crackle of lightning in the air, quick to come and go but she can leave goosebumps in her wake. Her presence in a room could be felt even when she's only doing something as sedentary as sitting. She is confident in the way she moves and speaks, commanding everyone's attention on her. Hyanghyeon stays true to her values and uses her status and privilege to help call out the ignorant and bigoted, something she's been doing ever since she was able to. However, she never stays too long especially around large crowds, only staying long enough to say her piece and shoot down a few rebuttals. She values her freedom a lot and had spent most of her childhood coming and going as she pleases. Hyanghyeon is good at finding escape routes and shortcuts, as well as manoeuvring around tighter spaces and climbing with speed and agility. Though she can handle herself within tighter spaces, Hyanghyeon would rather avoid those as much as possible. Her love for freedom isn't limited to spatial freedom, it also extends to her personal freedoms. She likes making her choices by herself with her own judgement and hates being told to do things just because. Being a princess with responsibilities and a "respected student of Mahoutokoro" suffocated her a lot, which became the prime reason why she decided to run away in the first place. Her tendency to rebel and cause problems aren't from her love of freedom though. These traits of hers only manifested after the death of her mother and had started out as a coping mechanism for her grief. Eventually, it became second nature for her to run away from things that would cause her great emotional turmoil. She values her control and running away from things that throw her off-kilter gives her some semblance of it. While Hyanghyeon's very presence tends to draw attention, she wants anything but attention, especially from strangers. This is also another factor that made her status as a princess so difficult. As a ceremonial figurehead obligated to face a crowd of thousands, Hyanghyeon gets stared at and her life poked at a lot. Maybe it's a little selfish of her to want to stay out of the public's eyes, but being a public figure that everyone seemed to think they were obligated to assume and comment and correct makes her squirm in discomfort and disgust. |
