Reign Armstrong-Hung feels as if she's never truly lived her own life. Was never her own person. Constantly struggling under the legacy of her dead mother, Reign has been coasting through life struggling to find her own purpose. She thought she found it with writing but she thinks that might have fallen through. Reign struggles to find inspiration, assuming that things will just fallen into her lap. It worked for her for so long that she's struggling to come to terms that she actually has to go out and work for something. Insecure in herself, Reign doesn't quite know her place in the world and struggles with attention from everyone else. Reign struggles to start something or have the confidence in her ideas. She's creative-that's for sure-and when she starts she can get some stuff out there. She's the definition of a struggling artist, except she's not broke.
It is incredible how two distant sides of the family can end with such different results. On the one side, you have the infamous Kieran Hung. Some would say a murderer, others would say a saviour of the dark ages. Where as on the other side of the family was the world renowned violinist, Melody Hung. Melody was a distant cousin of Kieran, stemming from the Chinese branch of the Hung family with absolutely little to no ties to their Taiwanese counterparts aside from the odd family gathering. When she was quite little, her parents moved to Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. It was here where Melody found a love for the violin, and it was in Edinburgh where her future career took off.
Skip forward a couple decades and Melody had found herself back in China visiting her grandparents, the only ones of the Chinese Hung branch still living in China. It was during her visit that she met a guy. His name seems like something of a distant memory at this point in time, Gao Meng. Having met at one of Melody's benefit concerts she was performing, Melody and Meng fell head over heels in love with one another. A romance that, while seemed bright and promising, fizzled out nearly as quick as it begun. It was during the first year of their relationship that Melody found out she was pregnant with not just one child, but twins. The surprise pregnancy ultimately led to the subsequent marriage of Melody and Meng.
With China seemingly her new home and fostering the beginning of her family, Melody had a boy and a girl. Jiahao and Mei respectively. However, once the joy and initial mending the babies seemed to provide for the couple had faded their issues rose to the surface once more. Within a year of Jiahao and Mei being born, Melody and Meng got a divorce with Melody winning the custody battle. It was better off for their children anyways, Meng was an absent and distant father. With her new found freedom, Melody moved back to Edinburgh with her children. Given the change of not only scenery but also language, she proceeded to legally change their names and simply use their original Chinese names as middle names. Finnick for her boy, and Reign for her girl.
Finnick and Reign hadn't grown up much by the time Melody had remarried. Being only two and a half years old when Melody met Darren Armstrong. Darren was the only father figure the pair had ever known, and while they knew from the obvious racial difference between them that he wasn't their biological father, they truthfully didn't care. Darren treated both children as his own, even going as far as to legally adopt the twins so their legal names were Finnick and Reign Armstrong-Hung.
Unfortunately the happy family wasn't permanent, as by the age of four Melody was involved in a tragic accident that led to her premature death. Looking back on it now it was a strange death for a witch such as herself. For someone who could just take a floo network with ease, Melody always insisted on taking muggle planes to fly to all her shows. However, the one time she takes a sleeping potion in order to have a calming flight is when the plane crashed. Finnick and Reign barely had any memories of their mother that they could remember. Seeing as she died at such an early age, it was hard for them to fully understand what had happened until years later when Darren could properly explain it to them.
Speaking of Darren, he did his best to raise the twins on his own. He never remarried either, stating Melody was the love of his life and that with Finnick and Reign still around he didn't need anyone else. The sentiment was sweet, but the twins always felt for their step-dad. There were times one of them would see him crying in his office as he looked at photos of them all together. In a weird sense it was harder on him then it was on their young minds at the time. Having been exposed to the wizarding world through Melody, Darren often times took Finnick and Reign back and forth between the Lincliff home Melody had and their home back in Edinburgh in order to provide the most culturally fulfilling life for the two he could.
Like many wizarding twins, Finnick and Reign shared their first magical experience. Taking place at the age of eight, it was a chilly winter day and Darren was getting the the pair ready for a walk to the nearby snow sledding hill. Finnick was in his blue and white jacket with black gloves while Reign was in a purple and white jacket with white gloves. Darren remembered specifically the colours both had on as they tended to get fussy when he accidentally gave them the wrong items. But as he turned his back for one second, Finnick had somehow changed the colours of Reign's jacket to match his while Reign did the same with their gloves. Now both in blue and white jackets with white gloves, when Darren turned around her was perplexed to say the least. Being a muggle himself, he wasn't necessarily equipped with the knowledge on how to handle these situations.
Luckily for Darren, Melody's parents were more than willing to help out with Finnick and Reign's magic. Trying to teach them as much as they could in the years leading up to their time at Hogwarts. When the time came for the two to attend Hogwarts, Finnick was sorted into Gryffindor while Reign was sorted into Ravenclaw. Despite their opposite houses, the divide didn't seem to put a damper on the amount of time the pair spent together. It did however give them room to grow into themselves and become more of their own persons. Finnick had developed a love for both dancing and the idea of becoming an auror, while Reign had definitely followed in their mother's footsteps and was leaning into the creative field of becoming an author.
Reign sure did feel like she had become her own person during Hogwarts. However, she's rather scared that's when she peaked, at least personality wise. In truth, she probably peaked around twenty one. Reign graduated with mediocre marks. She didn't do terribly but a lot of the magic flew over her head. Most people knew her as Melody Hung's daughter. Whilst the same expectations might have fallen on Finnick, perhaps it was clear that as the more artistic one as well as the daughter, Reign was going to be the one they were to look at to see if the musical genes had carried through. Unfortunately for them, Reign had gravitated more to the spoken word than music. She took course after course, read book after book, ignored her studies so she could just finish the next chapter.
When she graduated, Reign worked at a small bookstore in Lincliffe city. Though she preferred to read the books than sell them. When she was nineteen-she hit the lottery. Her first book that she wrote was signed on by an author. Sure, it took her five tries but she was signed. When she was twenty, she could officially call herself a published author. And...it was a success. A world wide hit. She quite literally won the lottery. Of course, some people ready her work simply because of her surname. Still, her platform grew immensely. However, at 24 years old, four years after her success, she still hasn't produced a follow up work and her agents are constantly threatening to drop her if she doesn't give them something. If only she could write something worthwhile.
