Rica was raised by two woman: Beth and Eda Fuerst in Germany. Beth was her mother and Eda was her aunt, although she served as a mother as well. Both were half-Veelas who tended to get what they wanted. Especially men. That's how Beth met Rica's father. It was all an act of seduction and it definitely worked on the much older wizard. It was supposed to be a one night stand, with nothing more, but it quickly turned into an engagement upon realizing that Beth was pregnant. The man, who neither woman speaks of, died of poisoning three days before she was born.
Rica attended Durmstrang for all seven years of school. While there she played quidditch and proudly brought her team to victory dozens of times. In fact, her favorite memory of back when she was in school was when she broke several ribs and her dominant arm, but still ended up sending the other team to the dirt. After school, she set her eyes out to play professionally. Her mother and aunt disagreed with her greatly and pushed her away because "quidditch is a foolish career choice that a woman should not be a part of" but that didn't stop her. For the next two years, she jumped from team to team, trying to find one where they treated her like just another member not a lady in distress.
Finally, at age twenty, Rica settled down with the Heidelberg Harriers. They treated her like any other member of the team and quickly became her new family. In fact, that's where she met her ex-boyfriend Ansel Schmidt, one of her closest friends Gilbert Schweinsteiger, and roommate Julchen Beilschmidt.
