Roland is an extremely gifted young man who excels in relatively all areas of his life. He was always the top of his class and even dual-enrolled in healing studies while at Durmstrang. While healing is his forte, Roland is plenty smart in all subjects. He picks things up rather quickly and there are very few things he can't do. With intelligence though comes a hard head. Roland is not easily swayed in his beliefs or opinions. He's very stubborn and will do what he thinks is right regardless of the consequences.
Going along with that, Rolo has a pretty decent moral compass. He believes in seeing a need and then filling that need. He will not turn away someone who needs help. This doesn't mean he is naive, and in fact he is very aware. He knows when someone truly needs him or when they are just trying to take advantage of him. He won't let you walk all over him, but he still has a kind heart and a great affinity for compassion.
When he's not working his tail off as a healer, Roland will indulge in photography. He loves taking photos as well as videos. In the same breath, Rolo also appreciates pictures and films. It's common to catch him at museums or watching a movie. He stays active by biking or walking, but he prefers the former. Whenever he feels guilty for killing time, Roland has a tendency to study medical texts that broaden his knowledge of healing. Most recently, he's been into psychology and human behavior. Basically, he's a medical nerd.
Lee Suyeon moved to Germany when she was a young adult. She had just graduated from school and was furthering her studies by attending medical school. While learning there, she met a man named Arden Keller. He swept her off her feet and the two fell in love. Arden was rough around the edges and was a thrill seeker, but he was also quite charming and truly loved Suyeon. He'd always promise to be more careful for her, but he'd come back to her all bruised and bloody. Arden was the worst about getting into fights.
At first, it was because he'd defend people who couldn't defend themselves. He'd fight the fight, standing tall and proud for doing the right thing. Suyeon though didn't believe in violence. She'd scold him and encourage him to stop, but he never did. She even threatened to leave him if he didn't stop, but she never did. The fighting continued, breaking Suyeon's heart. Then a miracle happened. Suyeon became pregnant.
Once with child, Suyeon's plea for peace held more weight. Arden agreed to refrain from violence, and he actually held true to that promise for a while. Roland was born and his parents got married. They wanted to set a good example and give baby Rolo a stable home. The peace didn't last too long though. About two years after Roland was born, his father got back into fights. He'd spend too much time at the bar and not enough time at home. It was that year that Suyeon found out her husband was involved with a local gang. It explained all the fighting, and it dealt the final blow to their family.
Roland's parents divorced when he was three years old. He'd spend weekdays with his mother and weekends with his dad. He learned healing from his mother and he learned how to protect himself from his dad. Best of both worlds right? Yeah, sure. Rolo's uncle Jihun moved in with Suyeon to help raise Roland while she finished up school. That was pretty nice. Roland liked having someone he could talk to about how his parents made him feel. Soon, Uncle Jihun became his best friend.
At his fifth birthday party, the only people to be there were his mom and uncle. That was okay though. He didn't mind. What he did mind though was how long his mom was taking to get home. His cake sat in front of him, candles unlit and just waiting to be devoured. Uncle Jihun was making him wait to start until Suyeon could get there though. Rolo had other plans. Suddenly the lights went out and the candles on the cake lit up. With a quick "happy birthday to me," Roland blew out the candles and grabbed a fork. If Jihun wasn't laughing so hard, he would've scolded his nephew. Besides, other than it being funny, it was a sign that Roland was a wizard just like Jihun.
After that, Jihun taught his nephew about the wizarding world. When he was old enough, Rolo attended Durmstrang where he was one of the top students. He studied healing alongside his magic and general learning. After all, Roland was a high energy person. He was used to doing multiple things. It was never a dull moment for him. After graduation, he landed a job as a healer in England where Jihun was planning to move. Everything just worked out kind of perfectly. Jihun welcomed his sister into his new home, while Roland got his own place. It wasn't the nicest apartment, but it was his.
Now Roland is a healer at St. Mungos. He loves it there, but he also realized how problematic it can be to work at a hospital or clinic. Having to turn people away killed him and he quickly decided he couldn't let someone in need suffer. So while he maintains his position at St. Mungos, he also works underground as a healer for those who can't afford it or don't feel comfortable coming in to the clinic for various reasons. It's not ideal and leaves Roland exhausted, but he'd rather have that than to turn people away who he could help.
