Héloise had come to Selwyn Manor to see Pandora and only Pandora. From what she had heard from her Selwyn friend, a bunch of drama had gone down in the household only a few days ago... Specifically towards Héloise's least favorite Selwyn - one of her least favorite people in general - so she was all for it. She was quick to knock on the door, doing so many times before.

Pandora has been sitting on the staircase watching the door as she waits for her friend, because she doesn't trust her siblings if they were to get to it first. It's a precaution that Cassius honestly should have taken a few days ago. Pulling the door open, she gathers her friend into a hug with a genuine smile. "Merlin, I have so much to tell you! Cassius is committing adultery already."

She grins back toward Pandora before giving her a hug. "I want to hear it all," she responds eagerly, even though she knew she didn't have to even say it. Pandora never missed a detail. "Everything has been so boring back at my place."

"Cassius is falling for a half-blood," she begins, ushering Héloise into the parlour and calling an elf. "Anything you'd like to drink? Eat? Anyway, the girl is sweet enough. Called Jan-Ji Park, turned up with a hamper full of baked goods, but Carlisle and I both agreed that we cannot allow Cassius to be disowned because of one stupid girl, so we intercepted and informed her of our concerns. I didn't mention you at first because I didn't want the poor girl to faint, but then Carlisle did and, well," she smiles, elegantly lowering herself to perch on one of the sofas.

"A half-blood? Who does he think he is?" Honestly, Heloise's feelings are mixed about this whole blood purity thing. Not that she'd ever admit, though. Either way, she knows Cassius falling for a half-blood wasn't good. Especially with his parents that were so similar to Heloise's. "I'm good. A water, maybe," she answers, but quickly goes back to the subject. "Wow, that's terrible. Poor thing."

She shoos the elf away to fetch Héloise's water and pats the spot beside her on the sofa for her friend to take. "Really, we did it for the greater good. I know you dislike him, but I'd rather he wasn't disowned." At this she pulls her legs up onto the sofa in a distinctly unladylike manner, and continues. "The poor girl was heartbroken, of course, but it had to be done. And oh, you'll never guess what else he's done!"

"I know. Poor girl. But Cassius really loves her, I think," she lets out a sigh - honestly, she's always been a bit of a romantic at heart, and she loves her brother. She wants him to be happy, but she also wants him to retain his inheritance. "He adopted Hekate Sayre into the family. I keep running into her in the kitchens at 3am."

"Hekate Sayre?" She repeats the name in a questioning tone, having never heard of it before. Goodness, the Selwyn family seemed to be full of all kinds of unexpected things. Well, guess it was like that with a lot of pure-blood families... Important ones at least. They certainly were never perfect. The Malfoys surely weren't.

The house elf returns with Héloise's water and a tray laden with tea sandwiches and cakes, and Pandora takes a scone before continuing. "She's a legilimens."

Okay, so as soon as Cassius invited JJ over he'd realised his mistake (she's not a pure-blood) and asked all his nice siblings to help him 'keep mother away'. Pandora and Carlisle had other ideas, so while Carlisle is actually keeping their mother at bay - as well as Cassius, for now, since Pandora has work to do - Pandora's come to the door. Problem is, you see, it doesn't seem like Cassius has told JJ anything much about their family. And also Pandora doesn't want to see her brother disowned over one stupid girl. Stopping in front of the door, she composes herself and pastes on her warmest smile, opening the door and surveying the girl in front of her. Well, she's pretty enough, at least. And are those muffins? "Good morning! I assume you are Jan-Ji?"

Really, she'd rather not, but she smiles and nods anyway. She doesn't bow in return, even though JJ is her elder, just steps back to widen the door and gestures for her to enter. "Would you like to come in? Mother and Cassius are just having a discussion at the moment, but I'm sure she'll let him go soon enough. Care for some tea?"

She directs the other girl through to the parlor, closing the door to the room softly behind them in order to lessen the chances of any eavesdroppers. Snapping her fingers to call a house elf, she briskly tells it what they want and settles herself imperiously on the sofa, scrutinising JJ again. It looks impressive, but really she's just doing her best impression of Mother. "While we're alone, my siblings and I have some concerns as to your relationship with our brother, which I'd hoped to discuss with you. You are a half-blood, correct?"

Pandora cocks her head to the side just as the elves arrive with two teacups. She doesn't bother thanking them as she takes a cup, lifting it and taking a dainty sip. "You see, that poses a slight problem. Not so much among our siblings - Cassius is much too good a judge of character for that. He's willing to disregard your blood status, so we are too. But to our parents' generation, it would be a scandal. You know how the middle-aged are."

It's lucky that JJ isn't looking at Pandora when she calls her brother Cass, or she would have caught the wrinkle in the other girl's nose. "Parent. Our father is dead," she corrects, as if commenting on the weather, before continuing. "Mother is unlikely to be happy with the arrangement, however. Though at present she assumes you are pure, it may come to light in future that you are only a half-blood. Of course, the prognosis is much better than it would be if you were a mudblood or a half-breed, but do you understand where our concern stems from?" she takes another sip of her tea, crossing one leg over the other. "I implore you to give her no reason to look into your heritage. Cassius could be disowned, and I have no desire to lose a brother because of one girl."

"I'm glad we're on the same page," Pandora says, smile wide. If she notices the inner conflict she's caused in JJ, she doesn't comment on it. "It really is for the best. Although, perhaps don't mention our conversation to Cassius. I'm sure he'd understand the necessity of it, but he is far too optimistic." With that, she sets her tea down on the table beside her and rings the bell for the house elf. "And I believe that now we can call the boys. Fetch Carlisle and Cassius," she commands the elf, then settles in to wait.

In true Selwyn fashion, Pandora sips her tea and then sidesteps the question entirely. "I like her." With that, she reaches up and tugs on Carlisle's sleeve to force him to sit down beside her. The unpleasantness out of the way, it's time to play matchmaker. And Carlisle isn't going to ruin that for her by separating Cassius and JJ in any way.

"I can't," she informs Carlisle. "Mother says I've gained weight in my face," she shrugs, takes a sip of her tea instead, and at the exact same time as Cassius leans towards Carlisle to tell him her thoughts on Jan-Ji. "She and I seem to have come to an accord. She's a little dull but otherwise nice enough."

She's been half-listening to the conversation across the room, and she decides to interject. "They're duelling champions, he means. Really, you shouldn't act so modest, Cassius. It doesn't suit you." With that, she turns back to Carlisle and says, "She's moving to Hogwarts because of some family drama. I don't know the details yet, but could you find anything out about Augustus Gabriel?"

"Hm, probably," she says, watching Cassius and JJ for a second. "Mother will never accept her when Héloise is an option, though. A Malfoy versus a half-blood. It's laughable." She adjusts her position on the sofa again, running fingers over her hair to check it's still in place in its braids. "Back to Julija. Augustus Gabriel is her estranged half-brother, but their meeting did not go well. He doesn't believe her."

Her attempt to pass it off as just a cough is vaguely successful, but she has to keep a hand hovering by her mouth to hide the smile. She holds her tongue, though, waiting for JJ's response.

Pandora looks for all the world like she's watching the greatest tennis game of her life, glancing from Cassius to Carlisle to JJ with smile still hidden behind her teacup. "Did we mention that Héloise is a Malfoy?" she asks, innocently. "Such a good family. Their blood may even be purer than ours!"

Pandora just aims a smile at Cassius and waves for Carlisle to shoo, saying, "Perhaps not when we have company? You and Calliope can use him as target practice later. Now, Jan-Ji," she continues, briskly. Even she feels sorry for the girl, so she reasons, "This shouldn't be an issue. Cassius has been trying to escape this since he was seven, I'm sure eventually he will be successful. Or Héloise will curse him and then at least one of them will be unable to marry, either through death or incarceration."
