Ivanna despises the time spent on the cadavers, but naturally her healing program would not be complete without some time spent on anatomy labs. Again though, it is not someone's ideal start to their morning and coming down to the morgue at 8am is not peachy. She's held a couple of one-on-one conversations with one of the men employed here, and she wonders how he has managed to be so excited about coming down here each day. The young woman descends the stairs to the morgue as she pulls her hair into a ponytail. It's time to get started. "Ладно," she whispers softly as she surveys the room. Only a couple of people are in this section with her, so she doesn't expect many people to bother her while she completes her studies.

Dmitri is off to the side quietly listening to Mr. Dalton talk about how interesting it is looking at how splinching affects internal organs. They had come down here with one of their yearmates to get a couple of fingers for someone up at the Research and Development department, but Lance had already departed with the digits because he was 'wholly uninterested in listening to someone talk about something so gross'. Dima thought that was rude, considering Nikolai really looked so enthused. They had nothing better to do anyway. They were ahead with their assignments and it is always good learning from the older members of the medical staff – it helps a lot in Dima's classes. But it's been around forty five minutes, and Dima is beginning to think that if they do not find a reason to leave, they will be here the whole day. They turn around when they hear footsteps descending the stairs and smiles politely at the newcomer, before excusing themselves politely. They approach Iva standing at the opposite side of a slab with a dead body covered by a sheet lying down atop it. "Uh, hello." they say, their accent not as thick as it once was after three years in England, but definitely still there. "Do you mind if I stay here for... few minutes? I told Mr. Dalton I was saying hi to a friend." They do not know what the nice way of saying 'I needed to get away is'. Hopefully she understands.

After snapping her gloves onto her hands, she glances up at the other person curiously. When they explain, she smiles and lifts her head as if something interesting has been said. "Oh, hello!" she responds cheerfully, raising a hand and waving at them. Her fingers wiggle before she turns and reaches for a clipboard to situate her parchment, letting go of it after nonverbally casting a charm on it so it would hover in the air beside her. "I have not seen you in forever." Her accent is thin considering she is good at mimicking a generic British accent and the conversation is fairly forced as is. What is a little bit more energy spent on preserving her accent? Still, there is a small inflection that signals she is an impostor. To her, it is not noticeable. Ivka glances over at Nikolai, whose turned away from them both, and she grins at the other student. Obviously, she doesn't mind. "What business do you have here?"

Dima had seen the other girl around before multiple times and they do not know what they were expecting once they inevitably crossed paths, but they are relieved when she seems nice and easy to get along with. Most of Dima's friends are, really, which is good because they aren't very good at talking to people their own age. They are much better interacting with adults, though technically they are now already an adult. "I, uh..." they still fumble with their words often until now, but that is more to do with shyness than their command of the English language. "Fingers." they say, finally. "I had to get fingers for Healer Mayberry." The man is one of Dima's less liked professors, but they also acknowledge it might be wrong to judge someone based on their personal life, which Dima has no business knowing. "You're in first year, yes?" they ask, "Have you had him as a professor? For epidemiology, I think."

Ivanna seems unfazed by the stumble, waiting for them to collect their thoughts before turning down to begin prepping the cadaver. This is perhaps the one time she would pray for partners. "Yes! I have," she answers, almost absent-mindedly though she is very present in the conversation. Similar to a busy mother, she is good at chatting with people while focusing entirely on something else. It's all of the experience with chatty children. "He's a competent professor, but isn't he a bit-" Iva turns up, pulling a face that is a whirl of disgust and concern as she stares up at them. Usually she is not one for gossip, but it doesn't seem to be much of a secret. Healer Mayberry is a person whose thoughts she pays extra attention to push out; no part of her wants to be involved with that man's inner psyche. "I would prefer to not have him after this semester," she finishes her point, tilting her head towards her left shoulder and shrugging just a little. It wouldn't bother her if she did. Her professors at Koldovstoretz were worse by all means.

As far as Dima knows, the man got a divorce after cheating on his wife with his TA, so they understand the look of disgust that crosses Iva's face. "I understand why." they say, their face also forming a small cringe. Dima glances back to Nikolai and the two lock eyes and the older man smiles, so Dima smiles back politely before returning to their conversation with... "Uh, I've seen you around before but I never caught your name." they say, "I'm Dmitri." Only their closer friends call them Dima anyway and they respond to either. "I can – I can help, if you like." They look down at the body, and they're not entirely sure what she is doing or needs to observe, but they got an O in Anatomy as well as most of their other subjects in first year. "I feel bad for... intruding. Interrupting? Bothering? I don't know." They laugh a bit nervously. "I might as well be useful."

"Ivanna. It's Ivanna," she tells them quietly. Her repetition of her name serves to anglicize it for their pleasure though it registers to her that their name is Russian. It forces her to spend more time listening to the twangs in their voice and she seems noticeably more intrigued by their words, brows subtly lifting as she listens. "Oh, you aren't intruding!" Iva smiles and waves a dismissive hand, amused by the notion that this could ever bother her. If anything, it brightened what would have been some dull hours spent in the morgue. This interaction has hardly been an issue for her. "It's my pleasure, Dmitri," she adds, voice honeyed as she continues to eye them carefully. She is a professional at prolonged eye contact. "I have to refuse your assistance, but I do appreciate the generosity." This is mostly a formality. At times, she struggles to accept that people's assistance on matters is anything short of an insult to her abilities, but she doubts that Dmitri meant to insult her and would not wish to be cruel towards them. "If you wish to linger, then be my guest. It's better- nicer to have someone around while doing these sorts of assignments." Or at anytime really. The morgue is quiet and dead. It only comes alive with a subtle buzz or the occasion sound out of Mr. Dalton. It drives her insane. Their company would be welcomed.

"It is nice to meet you, Ivanna." The way they pronounce her name is more Russian-sounding despite how anglicized she tries to make it. It's out of habit. She certainly does not look Russian, but upon hearing her name, they focus more on her accent and it is beginning to become clearer to them that perhaps she grew up there or at the very least knows the language. Dima schools themselves, not wanting to get too enthusiastic at the thought. It is not difficult for them to converse in English, but being able to speak in the language they grew up with would make everything so much easier. "I can stay. There isn't much for me to do today, anyway. My professor moved a deadline for later tonight to Friday, so there is nothing urgent to worry about." Never mind the fact that Dima had already finished working on it yesterday. It is not that they do not cram, but they prefer getting things done immediately because it gives them more time to double check. More than that, it allows them to help their classmates when they do not understand the topic. Dima is not particularly fond of helping people with their studies, but they do not mind and it has sort of become their role in their class that they are the one you should go to when you need help with your homework. "Sorry, I have to ask, are you from Russia? Your name and your accent..." Dima figures they might as well ask; there is nothing to lose and everything to gain from finding out.

Ivanna merely nods as an attempt at acknowledging their continued presence, beginning her dissection. She doesn't seem startled by it even though she silently recites what could only be compared to prayers before she starts. She actually appears far more alarmed that Dmitri said anything about her being Russian, glancing up with her reaction seemingly a mixture of amused and startled. "Asking questions is fine! No shame in it," she tells them, shifting her weight to the front of her feet as she switches into Russian. Her voice goes a bit higher and she's noticeably more confident, but this also means a bit more aggressive in her tone. "I am. I moved in July after graduating from Koldovstoretz. I haven't been able to return home since, so," she hesitates, missing Russia is not something she has expressed to her siblings because it seems ridiculous. What is there to miss? There is not a home there. Well, for one: being able to use her native tongue. "How long have you been here?" She smiles, but diverts her gaze the moment they start to respond.

Dima's whole face immediately lights up when she begins speaking in Russian. They have been waiting for so long to meet somebody else who speaks the language but it doesn't seem like a very popular language to learn. "Three years!" he replies, a little too enthusiastically. Mostly, they are just excited to be able to speak it outside of phone calls with Ingrid and Irina, and sometimes conversations with Vasya and some of their other cousins when they get the chance to catch up. "I moved here for the healing program when I was eighteen, and I have lived here ever since." they tell her, sounding a lot more sure of themselves and definitely less shy. Once they realize their abrupt change in demeanor, they smile sheepishly and run a hand through their hair. "I'm sorry. I just got excited. There is no one else in my year who speaks Russian, or at least, I have not met anyone who does so far."

Their excitement amuses her greatly and she feels rather proud of herself even though he is the one who mentioned Russia in the first place. Still, the way they beam when she begins conversing with them in Russian makes her heart flutter. Ivanna smiles, seeming pleased until their smile is more sheepish and her expression becomes more confused. Her eyebrows knit together for the briefest of moments before her face softens and she waves a dismissive hand again. "I understand. I understand. Excitement is acceptable, yes?" she points it out and immediately shrugs. Iva doesn't wonder why they're so prone to apologizing, but notes it's a common behavior. It isn't her belief that it's any of her business nor is it her place to speculate about it. "I have used so little Russian since living here. I heard your name and was immediately-" Ivanna pulls a face of amusement, holding her hands out by her ears and flicking them out like fireworks. Obviously putting her emotions into words is a difficult one even in her native language. "Except I wouldn't have mentioned it." She is still of the belief that there will not be much communication between them after this. She is so busy, and their schedules are obviously different even at St. Mungo's. "Do you plan on returning home once you have graduated?" It doesn't appear to be an option for her, but it seems completely possible that they would want to.

Dima laughs nervously. Not even they know the answer to that question. They always assumed they would end up staying here forever; they have made a comfortable life here over the past three years. However, so many of their family members have ended up migrating too to the point that if their original goal was to get away from their family, they do not know if staying here will achieve that. Still, they have grown attached to this hospital and the people in it. It would be hard to let it go. "Maybe? I do not know." they say. Perhaps she would understand more if they explained they were a Romanov, but there is no point in sharing that information. It seems like pointless showing off. "It depends on whether or not my family needs me, but they seem to be doing just fine." That is a bit of a stretch, Dima thinks. Their sisters, at least, seem to be doing just fine. The rest of their extended family? Uhh... "I enjoy living by myself and like my life here. It gets lonely sometimes, but the independence is worth it."

Ivanna nods. A thought starts coming through and she sets one of the instruments down to alternate though it isn't necessary. The action helps her focus on something else, shutting it out. She gently clears her throat, glancing up again before responding. "Life here is nice. It is quieter. There is more solitude and time for myself." Her time to herself is important even though she can hardly handle it. It is a weird balance to try to achieve. It is not necessarily quieter in the United Kingdom by nature, but instead because she started anew and no one is concerned with the Tolstokozhevs here. "I am glad your family is faring well. I understand why you would want to return to be with them." No one would think it considering she hardly sees them, but she moved here for her siblings (namely Polya). She should message her. "Maybe you will be less lonely now, hm?" she questions, rather chipper as she smiles up at them. Iva does not have time for friends necessarily, but it is not difficult to shoot people quick messages from time to time and checkup on them.

Dima grins, eyes lighting up. They are obviously very enthused by the suggestion, and while they keep a very busy schedule, they know it is not very difficult to maintain most friendships. Besides, she is also a healing student, which means she will understand the lack of free time. It is exciting having another person to tether him to his home aside from his family, which causes Dima more grief than necessary at times. It is a horrible thought, they realize, and they feel guilty for feeling such a thing, then they swallow and pushes those feelings aside. "Certainly!" they reply, "I agree that it is a lot more quiet here. Did you move here with the rest of your family? Or are they back home?"

Their grin is not lost on her, smiling a bit smugly to herself. It's cute Dmitri seems more comfortable. "My siblings are older, so they moved here a couple of years ago- a little earlier than I did." Sometimes it stresses her out that they seem more adjusted, but then she remembers who her siblings are and remembers that they are going through more than she sees. Again, she should really reach out to them soon. Ivanna can afford to miss a shift or two. It isn't as if she is strapped for galleons to cover her rent. "My sister insisted that we were all here instead of in Russia, so I listened. I assume I will not be returning anytime soon." Her eyebrows shoot up briefly as if she is soon to roll her eyes, but she refrains and just makes a small face of defeat. It is probably for the best, yes. Polya knows best generally or at the very least she trusts that she does. "That is fine! Of course. I would rather be with my family." She smiles.

Dmitri feels a pang of guilt because they themselves are not sure how much they would rather be with their family, but they decide not to dwell on it too much. There is no point in beating themselves up; it is unproductive and will only lead them to dwell and wallow and be more unproductive. That is not to say they don't think their feelings are valid – they just know they will reach the same conclusion they always do every time they go down this road so there is no point in doing so. "I understand." they say, nodding empathetically. They look back at Nikolai once more and notice that he is now absorbed in whatever experiment it is he is up to today, then glances back down at the corpse between them and comes to the conclusion he is probably better off doing something else and leaving Ivka to her own work. "I have to go, by the way, I think it's safe to now – " They gesture discreetly towards Nikolai, who is no longer taking time to glance towards them. " – and I don't want to get in your way. Do you have Witchagram, though? It would be nice if we could keep in touch."

Ivanna glances up again and nods, giving them a small smile. It wouldn't bother her if they leave or linger a little longer. If anything, it would be better if they stayed and she wouldn't have to conduct this lab in silence, but what can she do? She can't force them, nor is she interested in appearing so insistent that they stay and doesn't fret over their concerns that they're being a bother. "I do. It is at Ivanna Maria- that would be two N's," she tells them, not wanting to fret over her name's Ukrainian origins. It is a bit much to tell people you were adopted let alone adopted twice or that the nature of the second time is likely more sinister. Ivanna starts whistling to herself as she resumes her activities. "I will follow you later! I agree it will be nice." She is not in the position to get her phone out at this moment, so she doesn't bother with that either. She will figure it out later. "Have a pleasant day!" She barely smiles this time, but she has switched to being more focused on what she's doing. It doesn't seem dismissive if he's starting to leave now.

"Yeah, don't worry! I know you're busy." he says, once she mentions that she will follow his account later. Obviously she is preoccupied, and they have other things to do themselves anyway. Dima takes out their phone and finds their account, looking at her picture then at Ivanna once again to confirm it is her before pressing the follow button. "It was nice meeting you." they say, grinning. They will likely message her one of these days when they are less busy, and perhaps they can meet up and study together once Dima does not have too much going on. "Have a good day!" they finish, adjusting their backpack and moving towards the stairs. What a great way to start the morning.
