Introduction

An Introduction to Potion Making

A Potions book is the perfect companion for anyone. From a student beginning their education in the subtle art of potion-making or a young adult wishing to further hone this rewarding skill. Through Potions an individual can learn to ensnare the senses, and to bewitch the mind using a range of ingredients artfully combined to create either a simple or complex yet useful magical brew. However, if one is looking for light reading covering the potions of the Dark Arts, that which is sought shall not be found.

Before cleaning, filling, heating, brewing with or near a cauldron it is very important to understand the science and the theory of potion-making. The chapters in this book will explore the different types of potions that can be made, and the steps you must have taken in order to successfully create a magical potion.

The word ‘potion’ comes from the Latin word potio meaning ‘beverage’. To brew a potion one requirement is ingredients. Ingredients that have magical properties, and on occasion ingredients that do not. Each potion will require that these ingredients be prepared in a variety of ways. Potions can be used as a medicine, lethal or even non-fatal poisons, or to give the drinker any effect; from constant hiccupping, even and immunity to flames.</center>
