Val is a complete utter sweetheart. The true heart of the Taejo family, he would do anything to see a friend smile or to brighten up a dreary day. He thrives off of helping people and making them smile. He loves to well, love, whether it's platonic, familial, romantic. He'd show the same love to a stranger he's never met before that he'd show to a longtime friend, and there is never an ounce of bitterness in his heart. He wants to share the experience of being truly alive with everyone, and the way he does that is through music.
You see, Val is nothing short of a musical prodigy. He lives for music, the way the sound flows through his veins and the rhythm takes over his feet. It's a truly magical feeling. He wouldn't be able to do any of the things he does without music. Whenever music is involved, he excels. He likes incorporating it in everything he does. It's why he makes little jingles to study for exams, or associates spells with songs he's heard. He wants to share his music through his most prominent talent, music.
Despite the endless love in his heart for people and music, he still finds himself doubting himself and his abilities a lot. He always encourages people to carry themselves with confidence yet he has trouble doing the same thing. He doesn't like being judged and is constantly afraid people simply pretend to like him or tolerate him. That's why he's highly sensitive to slander. He tries not to take demeaning jokes personal but although no one knows, they hit him hard and they make him think about everything he could be doing wrong.

Time for a quick history lesson: visualise with me. The year is sometime in the late 14th century, place: Korea. Or, as it's known at the time, Goryeo. Korea's been under the occupation of the disintegrating Mongol Empire for some years, and at war for much longer. The ruling dynasty of Goryeo is losing its credibility - the royal family keep intermarrying with the Mongol Yuan dynasty imperial family, and are genuinely poor rulers. If you were a citizen of Goryeo at this time wouldn't you agree it's time for a change?
Well, that's exactly what happened. General Yi Seong-Gye had gained power and respect during the late 1370s and early 1380s by generally just being a great military mind, and in the wake of the rise of the Ming Dynasty in what is now China the court of Goryeo splits into two factions, one of which was led by General Yi and one led by a rival general. To put things simply, General Yi supported the Ming Dynasty but was chosen to lead an attack against them - he said no thanks and turned on his King, carrying out a coup d'etat that ended in the deaths of the king and his son and with Yi in control of the throne, at first through a puppet king and then with his own coronation. And that, in 1392, marked the end of Goryeo and the rise of Joseon, ruled by the newly-christened Taejo. Highest ancestor.
Now fast forward a few centuries, to the late 1800s, when Emperor Gojong of Korea rules. Yi Deok-Mi is born, a daughter of Gojong and princess of Korea. With controversy surrounding her birth (rumours that she was born to a Japanese woman seemed a popular theory), Deok-Mi was hidden away from all eyes; muggle and magic alike. Although she was still styled as Princess Deok-Mi for a large portion of her childhood, as soon as she reached the age to attend Mahoutokoro, her name was promptly changed to Taejo Deok-Mi after her distant ancestor in order to avoid all connections between her and the imperial family. After choosing to live in seclusion in Seoul, Deok-Mi now serves as the link between the current Taejo Family and the royal house of Yi - enabling her descendants to have claims to royal titles.
Fast forward again to Deok-Mi's six-times great granddaughter, Taejo Ha-Neul. One of the main pretenders to the magical Korean throne, Ha-Neul grew up in Seoul in the same palace that her six-times great grandmother had lived in in seclusion, and eventually attended Mahoutokoro. It is here that she met the muggle-born wizard Hwang Yoon-Chul, who wooed her. Though against Ha-Neul's wishes, he was more than happy to take on the surname of Taejo - the two reached a compromise with having their children take on her surname instead of his, rather than he himself. Ha-Neul is too fond of tradition.
The couple had three children in quick succession: Mi-Ah, Mi-Kyung and Hae-Won, before Ha-Neul's career took a different direction. She joined the ministry, and embarked on a political journey with the end goal being President of Magic. Of course, she took some time out to give birth to her next two children: Iseul, and finally, Mi-Yeon. Around a year later, Yoon-Chul took the children to Britain so that they could attend Hogwarts, and a year later Ha-Neul was elected as President of Magic of South Korea.
Now, let's narrow in on the third child of Haneul and Yoonchul: Haewon. Or Valentino as he was called once they settled in Britain. Valentino, or a more Italian name was chosen because of its relations to St. Valentine and Valentine's day, and it was clear that from the day Valentino was born, he was a very loving child. The moment he met his mother and father as an infant, he was giggling and smiling because even as a baby he knew what he was going to do in the world.
Valentino grew up a bit more loudly than his siblings. He found love for music at an early age and begged his father to get him lessons for every instrument. Of course, that wasn't practical, so Valentino settled with piano, violin, guitar, and drumset lessons, as well as having a personal singing coach hired. The moment he learned how to talk, how to sing, their home was never silent. Even if he was on the other side of the estate, he was blasting songs or playing something on instruments or sing, oh, how he loved to sing.
It seemed that no matter where he went, music followed. And so eventually, so did dance. At first, Valentino had no interest in dance, he just wanted to make music. But then he saw a ballet dancer on television and decided he wanted to do that. Of course, Valentino was a natural. It seemed that the moment the music came on, he could find a rhythm in his feet and the notes in his heart and suddenly he was doing whatever the beat commanded. He could do all the genres almost effortlessly with enough practice. Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap, you name it, he could do it.
When he was eight, he had his first magical experience in his room alone. A song came on the radio that had been one of his favorites at the time and as always, Valentino couldn't help but jump up and sing along. Soon he was twirling and leaping all over his room and the blankets and pillows and toys lifted up and formed weird cloth humanoids that danced with him. You could've sworn he was having a whole concert for those short three minutes, and the moment the song ended, and his feet stopped, everything dropped to the floor. His dad wasn't impressed. He spent the next two hours cleaning his room.
Valentino went on to spread his love of music in Hogwarts, as well as discover very quickly in second year, he was pansexual. Yeah sure, he seemed to get along with everyone he met and adored everyone he met but the crushes he had in second year were enough to make him realize that maybe he might actually be in love with everyone, regardless of gender. His family never found out until fourth year, but fortunately they seemed to be incredibly accepting. They also seemed to be accepting of his new dream: become a music artist.
It was that, his love of music, his love of everyone, his desire to make everyone happy, make them smile, bring them out of the depths when they were down that made him truly pursue music as a career. He was scouted by Reducto Records and signed to the label, placed in their soon-to-debut group, the Hex Boys. But before that, they let him release an EP to see how well he'd sell on their own. Despite the commercial success the EP brought them, titled 'Familiar Smiles', and the hit smash it had become, they decided to wait and play their cards before allowing Valentino to release solo music, however, he's still planned to debut with the Hex Boys regardless.
