We are proud to officially introduce our student internship program! Students who are accepted will be scheduled during summer break. Students who have graduated are not eligible but are welcome to seek employment within our department.

Who is eligible for an internship?

  • Hogwarts students who have taken their OWLs.

What do I need to apply for an internship?

Send the below information to the department head and if everything is found to be acceptable, you'll be contacted for a brief interview!
  • OWL scores
  • Positive recommendation from at least one of the following:
    • Headmaster
    • Deputy Headmaster
    • Head of House
    • Professors of two of the following subjects:
      • Potions
      • Defence Against the Dark Arts
      • Transfiguration
      • Herbology
      • Charms
  • A brief letter detailing why you'd like to intern with the DMLE and what you stand to gain from an internship.

What am I going to do as an intern?

  • Learn hands-on how the justice system works
  • Spend time with each office of the DMLE
  • Go on field calls with Investigators from the Improper Use of Magic Office
  • Sit in on Wizengamot sessions

What if I want to hang out with the aurors?

  • Interns will be able to watch aurors at work while in the office only.
  • With approval from the Head Auror, interns who are of age and able to pass a physical and magical examination from the Auror Trainer will be able to go on low-risk field calls with aurors.

Head Auror Drew Hamilton is proud to announce the new, streamlined training and integration for new and transferring aurors! See below for specifics.
  • Standard training period is now one year, split into three phases of four months each.
    • Phase One: basic training, shadowing, theory, survival training, hostage training, learning the basics every auror needs.
    • Phase Two: Trainees will shadow and work with full-fledged officers in each division for an equal period of time.
    • Phase Three: Trainees will lead cases in each division while gaining more in-depth training and field experience in each division for four months per division.
    • At the end of their final phase, they choose their division - between Patrol and Intelligence - after a meeting with Head Auror, and then complete the final four months of training in their chosen division. They must remain in their chosen division for a minimum total time of one year before they are eligible to switch to the Hit Division, at which time they will have to complete an additional six months of training.
  • All transferring aurors have a three month integration and training period.

Important information for foreign aurors looking to transfer to the British Auror Department!
  • Foreign Aurors transferring into the British Auror Department will undergo a six- to twelve month long accelerated training and evaluation period to measure skill and competence and learn our laws, policies, and procedures. This period will be with the transferring auror's designated specialty division.
  • Foreign Aurors transferring into the British Auror Department before they've finished training will complete training per usual.

Head Auror Serena Langston has brought new life to the Auror Training Program! See below for the specifics.
  • Standard training period is now three years.
  • Year One: basic training, shadowing, theory, survival training, hostage training, learning the basics every auror needs.

  • At the end of the third year, trainees will declare a division--between Patrol and Intelligence--after a meeting with Head Auror, and then complete the final eight months of training in their chosen division. They must remain in their chosen division for a minimum total time of one year, eight months before they are eligible to switch to the Hit Division, at which time they will have to complete an additional year of training.
  • Total time to become a fully-fledged Hit Auror: six years, eight months.
