It's easy enough to get to Zmajkovo, what with Fahriye's portkey, but distinctly harder to leave. She supposes that's her own fault, though, for leaving her portkey back home to her father's London townhouse in her aunt's home. To be fair, she didn't realise she'd have a fully human boy in tow when she came back, and she really is supposed to be staying here for the week; she'll just have to sneak him in. It'll be fine. "I'm sorry for the inconvenience," she's saying as she leads him across the bridge towards the town proper. They'd arrived originally in the portkey harbour, of course, where she'd immediately dropped his hand and made a beeline for the boats, and this is the first she's spoken since. What? She's not sure what you're supposed to say immediately after almost being trapped as intruders in an abandoned manor. "Once we pick up my other portkey we can return to London and you'll be able to floo from there."

Fionn has visibly calmed down after getting out of that situation, and takes a deep breath, not bothering to take in the view yet. Instead, he feels a bit frustrated with himself. You don't have to apologize for anything, is what he wants to say, but he can't seem to verbalize his thoughts. It was his idea after all, to go to Penbury Hall, and it was her who got them out. He struggles a bit with finding the correct words, though forces himself to say something, knowing that he'll dwell on it later if he doesn't do anything to express his gratitude. "Thank you." he ends up saying, which feels like the least he could say. Finally looking up, he sees their surroundings and his eyes grow a bit bigger. Having stayed in an abandoned manor his entire childhood, then only ever going to Hogwarts or Lincliff certainly did not prepare him for such a sight. It's beautiful. "This is... Zmajkovo?" he asks.

"The ancestral homeland," Fahriye deadpans, unimpressed as ever. She's got a love-hate relationship with this place (and her heritage) at the best of times, and it just feels odd bringing a non-veela here. But needs must. "Be careful. Some of the girls think it's funny to convince men to do things for their own amusement, and still more just don't like wizards. For obvious reasons - I mean, the Precinct was only a couple of years ago." Fahriye's not going to let anything happen, obviously; she hopes most of her sisters know how vindictive she can be. They'd wake up bald. It still seems like a good idea to warn him, though. "And don't wander off. There's a dragon in the woods."

"Is this where you live?" he winds up asking. He feels like he's been transported to a land found in one of his books with how beautiful everything is. The idea of staying here is very appealing though he knows that's not an option for him, but if he were part-veela (which, what a concept – he'd probably wither from all the attention) he doesn't think he'd ever leave. As the pair walk on the bridge, they pass by a veela girl who winks at him, and Fionn turns a bit red but otherwise maintains his composure and reminds himself that this is just an exercise in self-control. Besides, it would be unbecoming to succumb to veela allure in front of Fahriye, who doesn't seem to have the best experience with her own powers. "Or at least, do you come here often?"

Fahriye greets the girl as they pass her, frowning at the wink but deciding ultimately it's not the worst he'll probably encounter here. Svetlana's far from the cruelest veela she knows. "I used to," she admits, stepping ever so slightly closer to him just so she can easily grab his sleeve if he does end up convinced to run off after someone. She's seen it happen to visitors before. "My mother used to be one of the poludnitsi - how much do you know about veela culture?"

"I've heard some stories." Fionn replies, "Some of the ghosts at home used to tell me about veela..." He isn't sure what Fahriye has heard from the other students in their year about his upbringing, but regardless he isn't very ashamed of it, so it's fine. Besides, if she doesn't know anything, it's pretty normal to have ghosts in most wizarding households, he thinks. "Definitely not enough for me to even pretend to know what the poludnitsi – " He tries his best to pronounce the word, hoping he doesn't embarrass himself. " - are in a misguided attempt to impress you." Fionn remembers all the times boys in their Ancient Runes class have made a fool of themselves trying to recite with a smart answer or cut into their conversations in an effort to make Fahriye notice them. While she is smart, he isn't sure if her intelligence makes up for all the unnecessary attention he gets when they're together. Luckily, she doesn't seem too interested in being his friend outside of class.

The mention of ghosts catches Fahriye's interest; she's heard people talking about his upbringing, of course. It's odd enough to be a source of gossip. But she doesn't ask about it - it seems rude to. He doesn't exactly seem like an oversharer. "They're the ruling council - think maiden, mother, crone, like the pagan triple-goddesses. You might have heard them referred to as the Ladies of Midday? There are a lot of references in Slavic mythology. All corrupted, of course." Most of the myths are, she's found; every single one of them declaring them malevolent, vicious creatures. Though she supposes that in some aspects they are.

Fionn can't help but look around at the sights in Zmajkovo, occasionally having to consciously tear his eyes away whenever they land on any of the veela for too long. He instead decides to focus on Fahriye, thinking that might be better, but it's a mistake because she's just as pretty as everything else. "I'm sure." he agrees, "I'm not sure even the greatest myth could do this place justice." Even Fionn knows his compliment sounds indifferent and perhaps a bit insincere, but hopefully Fahriye has been around him long enough to understand that he doesn't seem to be capable of expressing a very wide range of emotion.

"Oh, you haven't seen the half of it," Fahriye says, shaking her head as she turns a corner and indicates for him to follow. The lack of emotion in his compliment has exactly the opposite effect than he thought; she doesn't care if it's insincere, just that he's not overwhelmed by... well, everything. When boys show appreciation for things adjacent to her it's always not real, in her experience. Side effect of being veela. "There's the library - it has a copy of everything ever written by a non-human, and absolutely nothing written by humans. The bonfire, too. Fire is very important."

The pair pass by yet another group of veela, and this time they're rather loud and it catches his attention. Fionn has to make an effort to pull away his gaze from one of the girls in the group, especially since she seems to be calling out to him. He takes a deep breath as he breaks eye contact and looks back at Fahriye. "Maybe we're better off doing Runes work there." he tells her, "Unless it's unwise for a human to be here very long. I can't imagine my presence here being well-received."

The girl in question receives a nasty look from Fahriye, and before she answers Fionn's question she instructs, "Take my hand. If you like, I mean. They'll back off that way." Here is one of the few places where people are more likely to respect a woman's opinion than a man's, after all. And as much as Fahriye hates physical contact she hates the veela allure even more. "You would be fine here for as long as you like, as long as you have a guide, but I doubt our library would be much use for the project. It won't cover any human runes."

He looks down at the hand Fahriye offers and then back up at her before slowly taking hers into his own. Fionn can feel his heart rate increase slightly; for starters, he is no expert in romance and more importantly physical contact with others is still an unfamiliar feeling after all this time. He grew up with ghosts, after all, they weren't exactly tangible. "I can leave at your earliest convenience." he tells her. He would go to the portkeys by himself but he feels like leaving Fahriye would not be a very wise decision. He glances down at their hands again before frowning thoughtfully. "People may get the wrong idea." he comments, "I understand that's the point, though I don't seek to offend anyone that might be interested in you."

Fahriye makes a face at that. "I will offend them myself," she informs him, starting down the street again. She's certainly offended a good number of potential suitors already. What's a few more? "Is your house connected to the floo? We can portkey to my father's home in Chelsea and you can use the floo there, if you like." Where does Fionn even live, anyway? She's heard stories about his being raised by ghosts in an abandoned manor, of course, but how much of that is just embellishment by their bored classmates? "If not I can find someone to apparate you once we're in London. That wouldn't be any trouble."

He knows for sure the Manor is connected to the Floo Network. His uncle's house isn't, but he's made the trip between the two places enough times for it to be easy enough for him to get back. He feels a bit bad for imposing on Fahriye but doesn't want to apologize over and over again. It's a bit pathetic, and Fionn is used to people being annoyed with him already, so what is one more? "The house I grew up in is connected to the Floo, and I have a portkey there to my home. If your father won't mind, that seems like the better option." Fionn tells her. Her comment about offending her suitors herself does not go unnoticed either, but Fionn says nothing of it. He's seen the way boys go mad over Fahriye at school and suddenly he is glad they are not in Hogwarts – he's sure if any of their yearmates saw him now holding her hand, they'd assume he put her under the influence of a love potion.

Fahriye's father probably will mind, but she'll deal with that later. She's got things to confront him about anyway; may as well get it all out at once. "We'll do that, then," she confirms, tugging him lightly as they reach the point to turn on to her aunt's street. It's deserted, so she takes the opportunity to drop his hand, explaining as they walk- "I need to get my portkey from my aunt's house, but she can be a little... hostile, to humans. It's a long story, doesn't really matter, and she should be out anyway. But if she's there just ignore her. It's nothing personal."

He makes a mental note to let go of Fahriye's hand before they arrive – her aunt will probably not take too well to the idea of her niece being romantically entangled with a human, and he doesn't want to give her that impression especially when it wouldn't be true. Then, she lets go of his hand anyway, and subconsciously, he flexes his fingers as if to let the feeling seep into his skin before it disappears forever. "I'm quite used to people being hostile to me; it will be fine." he remarks wryly, putting a bit of distance in between them again. "Lead the way."
